Abstract

There are plenty of critics coming upon the professional journalism or on the journalism that rises up the objectivity and neutrality. Professional journalism is believed has failed to cover the democratization of political system and citizens. On the other hand, attempts on running over the objectivity and neutrality make it trapped on the higher orientation, to the public figures. In facing those kind of weakness, public journalism is coming over it The basic orientation is how journalism ought to make itself as easy as possible for citizens to make intelligent decisions about public affairs, and to get them carried out

Abstract

The infotainment program, which recently broadcasted a lot, summon controversial among the society. Nahdlatul Ulama even issued the fatwa haram. Purpose of this article is not to extend those arguments, but to explore the ideology beyond it, neo-liberalism and what is the impact Infotainment is a cultural industry product, broadcast in some television stations, which chase only to make a profit. In this situation, infotainment trapped into liberalism paradox, and in any level represent social darwinism moral. As we can see, the infotainment journalists pay a lot of attention to artists' personal life, which put some limitation to the artists themselves. In the other hand, to pursue higher rate, journalists frequently don’t care about other people in society.

Abstract

This article is based on the theory that public opinion has important role in the democratic system. In this system, government should be responsive to public opinion that has rised in society, in which that is the only way for government to be sustained. Hence, informing public opinion, media have big influence to affect people's perception through the agenda setting. By shaping the agenda setting, the issue that is considered important by the media will be treated the same by public. Sharp reportage to the issue will influence public opinion, then, affect the government policy. Bibit-Chandra vs Polri issue proves this theory. Eventually, covering the case will not only influence government policy but also people assessment to government.

Abstract

This article discusses about public service broadcasting and the urgency of culture program, especially the local culture program. This discussion based on the argument that broadcasting in Indonesia is dominated by private television that considered rating as the principal goal. In the other hand, local culture programs are ignored as the result of centralized broadcasting system. In fact, local culture program is very required. It is showed by the popularity of culture program “Pangkur Jenggleng” that shows on TVRI Jogja. For public service broadcasting, culture program is one of their duty and mission that must be carried on.

Abstract

The issue of PKI and the efforts of reconciliation rose by mass media every year become a controversial issue. This issue increased especially in the era of President Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) and Joko Widodo. This research explains how Tempo and Gatra constructed PKI and framed the reconciliation issues in this two presidency era. This research uses Robert Entman’s model of framing analysis. The research found that articles in Tempo tend to place the PKI as a victim, support reconciliation efforts, and the importance of historical alignment. According to Tempo, the New Order had a major role in "shaking up" the PKI. Gatra, on the other hand, tends to be balanced and views the history of the PKI as historical traumatic for Indonesian peoples. Gatra supports reconciliation done naturally, and that history should be reexamined. The difference between the two magazines was influenced by ideology, organizational routine, and extra media power. Keywords: PKI, Framing Analysis, Construction, Reconsiliatio
