Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang diwujudkan dalam sebuah program bernama SPARK (English Program for Kids). SPARK di masa pandemi ini merupakan program pelaksanaan kedua setelah sebelumnya pernah dilaksanakan secara luring pada Januari 2020. Namun, karena pandemi melanda Indonesia dan hampir di seluruh dunia, maka Program SPARK tahun kedua dialihkan menjadi suatu program yang berfokus pada pembuatan materi tambahan atau supplementary materials bagi anak-anak Sekolah Dasar. Program SPARK ini merupakan hasil kesepakatan bersama antara pengusul dan Kelompok Mitra sebagai bentuk dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat. SPARK ini merupakan suatu usaha untuk membantu mitra meningkatkan kompetensi berbahasa Inggris untuk anak- anak usia Sekolah Dasar. Mitra pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah Sekolah Dasar Negri di wilayah Godean, Yogyakarta. Materi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dikembangkan melalui sebuah platform bernama StoryJumper yang menghadirkan online audio book untuk menunjang pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang menarik bagi anak-anak Sekolah Dasar. Selain itu, fitur audio yang terdapat dalam materi tambahan ini dapat membantu para siswa dalam melatih pelafalan kosa kata Bahasa Inggris. Pemanfaatan platform storyjumper juga mampu mengakomodasi variasi gaya belajar para siswa melalui audio bagi siswa auditory, visual yang menarik bagi siswa visual, dan bahkan siswa yang termasuk dalam pembelajar reading/writing dan kinesthetic. Lebih lanjut, penggunaan platform StoryJumper ini menginspirasi guru Bahasa Inggris mitra untuk dapat menggunakan platform yang sama untuk kemudian dapat dikembangkan kembali pada topik-topik pembelajaran lainnya.

Abstract

Community service to support the needs of entrepreneurs for Small and Medium in Yogyakarta was begun with conducting workshop for members of IPEMI Yogyakarta and PERWIRA Yogyakarta. IPEMI is the Association of Indonesian Muslim Entrepreneurs while PERWIRA is the Indonesian Women's Entrepreneur Association, both of them are committed to supporting entrepreneurs of Small and Medium Enterprises, especially those in Yogyakarta. By conducting business letter training for Small and Medium actors, members of IPEMI Yogyakarta and PERWIRA Yogyakarta, it can be an effective step to prepare Small and Medium Yogyakarta in MEA. In this training discussed some things about the business letter, including an introduction to what is meant by a business letter, parts of the business letter as well as examples of business letters that are close and will even be used by Small and Medium Enreprises’ doers in the trade sector. The delivery of material applied lecturing methods and interactive dialogue. In this workshop, the participants were also asked to practice compiling one business letter by paying attention to the instructor's explanation and examples written in the module. The business letter writing training went well and successfully to the Small and Medium Enterprises’ doers who are currently required to use e-commerce which is mostly communication is done in written English. Further, the enterpreneurs of Small and Medium Enterprises now currently gain the knowledge and ability to use and response business letters appropriately.

Abstract

Online learning provides many changes, expects adaptation and creates a new concern and order in the world of education. A new term, FCAM (Flipped Classroom Approach and Multimodality) was be applied in this online learning process, especially the focus in this study is productive skills. The study was conducted through mixed-method research by distributing questionnaire and doing the interview to the participants. The research results revealed that the FCAM gained a positive response from the students for helping the learning productive skill in Speaking Class. FCAM implementation achieved 61,78% as the responses form the students. The FCAM implementation was in medium qualification. The students shared their thoughts about the FCAM implementation and they were satisfied to have this teaching and learning strategies. However, there were several obstacles in the FCAM implementation from the students’ point of view including unstable internet connection that made the student could not optimally joining the Zoom meeting as the face-to-face learning and also as the completion stage of the FCAM itself

Abstract

Mastering vocabulary will help students in expressing their ideas or understanding others in an EFL context. However, it turns out that students have difficulty learning English due to a lack of vocabulary mastery. Therefore, the selection and the use of appropriate media were needed to help students achieve the learning objectives. In this study, the VARK questionnaire was distributed to students to see their learning styles. The results were that most of them are Read/Write type of learners. Considering that fact, students learning style VARK-based flashcards were implemented as a medium in this Classroom Action Research. This study aims to find out how flashcards can improve vocabulary mastery in class VIII C students of one state Junior High School in Teluk Keramat, Kalimantan.  This study applied Classroom Action Research with 2 cycles with 33 student participants. The data analysis technique used mixed-method research; qualitative and quantitative. The instrument used questionnaires, interviews, observation checklists, and tests. The results indicated that students gained improvement after learning by using flashcards media. It was found that the average score of students in the pre-test was 34.9, post-test cycle I was 54.2, and post-test cycle II was 72.5. This proved that students' vocabulary mastery by using students' learning style VARK-based flashcards was improved. Further, it could be concluded that students learning style VARK-based flashcards gave a positive impact on the use of learning media in a Junior High School in Teluk Keramat to improve their vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Blended-learning is able to provide students with an independent learning atmosphere and also a learning environment that facilitates their respective learning styles so that later they can achieve their learning goals more easily. The non-English department students are required to take the English course. After almost two years of experiencing full online learning, currently learning English is given in a blended-learning manner. Following the initial assumptions, maybe this will be a win-win solution in this transition period. To provide the best, an approach namely Flipped-Classroom was applied to English classes for non-English Department Students. The research aimed to answer the following question: How is the non-English Department students’ readiness in Flipped-Classroom of Blended Learning? The research was mixed-method research. The results of the study revealed that the students’ readiness analyzed from seven categories obtaining 65,99%. This percentage showed medium qualification. Furthermore, non-English Department students’ readiness in Flipped-Classroom of Blended Learning was in medium level.

Abstract

Human capital is an investment in human resources which will significantly influence the welfare and economic growth of a country. Improving human capital is one of the development targets of Sumberadi Village, Sleman Yogyakarta. Providing education or training becomes the concern to support human resources to be competitive in the world of work is the main objective of this community service. The method applied in this community service is simulated-based technique. This community service offered a training emphasizing on softskills: English and public speaking as an effort to boost the human capital. The method used is simulation-based technique which explores more on practice that is made based on real-life situation. The training involved 25 participants of Sumberadi Village with the range of age between 18-45 years old. The result shows the improvement of the participant’s English skills in basic level and their ability to perform in public. Even, the partcipants request to have an English Club as a medium to contiune practicing their English

Abstract

According to the curriculum, Elementary school students have to learn English sentence structure as a part of writing skill mastery. The challenge aroused when the students found the English pattern was different from Indonesian sentence structure. The students who are categorized as young learners need the appropriate strategy accommodating their characteristics. This research aimed to reveal the implementation and the benefits of Monkey Forest board game as a dynamic tool for young learners at one of the state elementary schools in Ngluwar, Central Java. This research used mixed-methods research. The instruments for obtaining data were questionnaires and interviews. The participants were 15 fifth graders. The research findings revealed that the implementation reached 72% showing medium qualifications. It revealed that the students gave positive responses to the implementation of Monkey Forest board game to learn English sentence structure. Besides, students' responses to the benefits of the Monkey Forest board game showed medium qualifications as well by obtaining 74.9%. Moreover, Monkey Forest board game as a dynamic tool to learn English sentence structure was evidenced to provide benefits to the students

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh peserta didik muda di salah satu Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Bantul Yogyakarta. Siswa menghadapi kesulitan dalam belajar menguasai kosakata sehingga kesulitan mengetahui cara menulis yang benar. Mengenai karakteristik pembelajar muda, penelitian ini menggunakan media pembelajaran berbasis permainan sebagai solusi permasalahan penguasaan kosakata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan permainan Anagram untuk mengajarkan kosakata bahasa Inggris kepada pelajar muda dan untuk menunjukkan manfaat penggunaan permainan Anagram sebagai media pembelajaran berbasis permainan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian metode campuran. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah angket dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa permainan Anagram dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris di kelas. Hasil penelitian mencapai kualifikasi sedang dalam penerapan dan manfaat. Penerapan permainan Anagram mencapai 73,4% dan manfaat yang diperoleh sebesar 81,2%.

Abstract

The Indonesian curriculum expects high school students to be able to write formal invitations for school or work events. These invitations should be well-structured, use appropriate language, and follow proper social etiquette, all according to the specific situation. In the early observations and interviews suggested students struggled with writing. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the types of errors found in the writing of senior high school students. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 14 eleventh grade students in one state of the senior high schools in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results showed that there were two types of errors found in the students' writing based on the Taxonomy of Surface Strategies called: Omission 12 times (75%), Misinformation 4 times (25%).
