Abstract

Morphology character is the result of interaction between genetic and environmental factor, and the last  factor is the dominant factor of variation. Morphometric character of shrimp is required to determine the value of portion of body part that can be consumed, so that  it can be used as baseline in designing breeding program.  This research aimed to study the variation of morphometric and meristic of Macrobrachium lar population from several rivers i.e.  Andai, Wariori, Muara Prafi and Pami, in Manokwari West Papua Province. We found eight morphometric characters which were significanly different (p<0.01) among lar  shrimp populations. Among the eight characters, there were three best morphometric characters, body weight (BT), total length (PT), and rostrum length (PR) that could be used for determining  the differences between populations. Total number of upper teeth rostrum ranged between 7-9, while lower teeth ranged between 0-5. The meristic characters between populations were not significanlly different (p>0.05). Morphometric characters of Andai and Pami population tended to  similar each other as well as those of Wariori and Muara Prafi population. It showed that the similarity of the characters might related to close distance of the rivers. Although the four those rivers came from different upstream source,  the closer distance of the M. lar population, the closer genetic relationship of M. lar  population.

Abstract

Merauke termasuk bagian kawasan dataran rendah Trans-Fly (Trans-Fly coastal lowlands) yang kaya dengan biota air tawar endemik dan terletak di bagian selatan New Guinea. Area ini memiliki daerah lahan basah musiman (seasonal wetlands) terluas di New Guinea. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi komposisi jenis ikan yang ada di daerah rawa-rawa Kaliki. Penelitian dilakukan dari tanggal 16-29 Maret 2009 di empat habitat utama perairan tawar (rawa, kali, kolam alami, dan parit) yang berada pada 20 lokasi. Alat yang digunakan adalah jaring insang, jala, serok, dan peng-amatan dengan cara snorkelling. Ikan yang terkumpul sebanyak delapan spesies dari delapan genera dan tujuh famili. Jenis ikan asli yang umum dijumpai adalah Iriatherina werneri (25,07%) dan Pseudomugil gertrudae (18,95%). Jenis ikan introduksi yang ditemukan adalah Channa striata (16,33%) dan Anabas testudineus (15,16%). Kesamaan jenis setiap habitat relatif tinggi (>70%). Ada dua jenis ikan asli yang diduga akan mengalami kepunahan lokal yaitu Melano-taenia splendida rubrostriata dan Oxyeleotris fimbriata. Abstract

Tripneustes gratilla is economically important, supports small-scale, commercially important, ecological values, a prospect as a biological control agent and also considered as the commercially traded sea urchin. We review genetic aspects of T. gratilla for understanding the status to the sustainable use in the future. In GenBank, there are 267 nucleotide sequences related with T. gratilla. Most of the sequences (189 sequences) are COI gene of T. gratilla from Indo-Pacific Ocean. Study on molecular genetics mentioned that there is no genetic structure for T. gratilla distribution in Indo-Pacific Ocean including in Indonesia waters.

Abstract

Sea urchin Tripneustes gratilla is multifunction organism that can be used as potential food source because of its high nutrient content. This organism can also be utilized bioindicator of sea waters and as a modal of organism for studying biology’s purposes. The purposes of this research is studying Filogenetic of sea urchin T. gratilla from waters of Wasior and Serui. The research has been doing at the Biotechnology Laboratory of the state of University of Papua on November to December 2009. The sample was extracted by using Chelex 10 % and was amplified with PCR technic (polymerase chain reaction). Sequencing of CO I gens (cythocrome oxidase subunit I) was done using sequencher ABI 377 (Apllied Biosystem). The result of nucleotid sequence data was analyzed utilizing MEGA 4.0.2. This researchs result showed that the gen fragment that was succesfully amplified 601 bp. The sequence result of nucleotid which was analyzed the variaty of nucleotid between the sample from two waters. Filogenetic analyzing toward individu of the two waters produce the two clusters. The first cluster consist of SER 01 and sub cluster which is consisted of WSR 02 and SER 02. While, the second cluster consist of only WSR 01. This result showed that every individu from Wasior (WSR 02) has close genetic relation with other individu from Serui (SER 02), that proved there is genetic flow between the two waters.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menambah data spesies dan kelimpahan ikan air tawar untuk digunakan dalam perencanaan konservasi di daerah Mamberamo. Survei dilaksanakan selama 18 hari dari 5 Februari sampai 24 April 2008 pada beberapa habitat, berupa sungai, kali, telaga, dan aliran-aliran air. Sejumlah 20 spesies yang tergolong ke dalam 17 genus dan 14 famili telah dikoleksi dan ditangkap menggunakan gillnet, cast net, hand net, long line dan tumbuhan beracun Deris sp. Dua catatan baru ditemukan dari Mamberamo, yaitu Chilaterina lorentzi yang sebelumnya hanya diketahui dari sungai Tawarin pada pantai utara Papua sekitar 200 km sebelah barat Jayapura dan kali Puive, anak sungai Pual dekat Vanimo, PNG; dan Monopterus albus (sejenis ikan introduksi) yang sebelumnya tidak diketahui ada di Mamberamo. Pada umumnya fauna ikan air tawar yang dikoleksi di Haya sekitar 70% mirip dengan catatan dari Dabra.
