Abstract

Co-Op Co-Op is one of the cooperative learning strategies. It alllows students to work together in smallgroup to advance their understanding and provides them with the opportunity to share the understandingwith their peers. The research aims describing at (1) whether Co-Op Co-Op Method can improve students’reading comprehension in determining detail information and (2) the difficulties of using Co-Op Co-Opmethod to enhance the students’ reading comprehension especially in determining explicit and implicitinformation. This research applied a Classroom Action Researchand it was conducted in two cycles. Theresult of the research showed that (1) Co-Op Co-Op method can improve the students’ readingcomprehnsion in determining the detail information; explicit and implicit information. The means of thestudents’ score improved from cycle to cycle. (2) There are some difficulties of using Co-Op Co-Opmethod in teaching reading comprehension to determine detail information; explicit and implicitinformation such as (a) implementing Co-Op Co-Op method takes long time because the students shoulddiscuss, present, provide the materials as well as doing the exercises (b) it is very difficult to control allgroups and hold them in group discussion because some of them still were passive (c) higher levelstudents usually take turn more than the lower one especially in the the discussing the materials andpresenting the materials.

Abstract

This article reports book evaluation in the textbook entitleds ‘English Skills for the Future’ designed forthe tenth grade students of senior high school. The main objective of the research are to: (1) discoverwhether English Skills for the Future is relevant to the English language and literature syllabus ofCurriculum 2013, (2) find out whether English Skills for the Future develops the scientific approach, (3)determine whether English Skills for the Future develops authentic assessment and (4) discover whetherEnglish Skills for the Future meets the characteristics of good English textbook. The data of this study isdocument analysis and observation. The data were collected by using document analysis. The techniqueanalyzing data on the textbook involves data collection, data reduction, data display and drawingconclusion as proposed by Miles and Huberman (1992 : 16). The result confirmed that ES book had met71% criteria of good book with coverage 63% for relevance of the materials to the curriculum, 75% formaterial accuracy, 73% for supporting learning materials, 76% for language appropriateness, 81% forpresentation technique, 71% for teaching and learning technique, 100% for presentation coverage and71% evaluation standard of 2013 curriculum. Abstract

The objectives of the research are: (1) to describe in detail whether Edmodo posting can improve the students’ competence in reading (2) to identify what are the difficulties of implementing Edmodo posting in teaching readings. The method of this research was classroom action research. It was conducted in two cycles which covered planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 17 Surakarta. The subject of the research was the nine gade students of class D consisting of 27 students. The result of the research showed that (1) edmodo posting can improve the students reading competence in identifying reading indicator in terms of: (a) the students can determine the purpose of the text (b) the student can find out the content of the text (c) the student can determine the main idea of the text and main idea in each paragraph and (d) the students can find the specific and detailed information in each paragraph. (e) the students can find out the references. The means of the students score improved from cycle to cycle. The mean in pre-test: 62, post-test 1: 76, post-test 2: 84 compared with the KKM for reading: 72. (2) edmodo posting can improve the class climate in the term of: (a) the students cooperation looked maximal and alive, (b) the students become active because the reseacher gave them motivation, help, support and encouragement maximally, (c) the task orientation become effective, (d) the involvement of the student make good atmosphere. Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe the English teachers’ perception on educational supervision. This research was a qualitative study using purposive sample. The research was conducted in the three senior high schools which had different accreditation in Kalirejo, Lampung. The data were collected from the interview with three English teachers. Each of them represented different school. The data the researcher had included were all about how the English teachers’ perceptions on educational supervision in Kalirejo, Lampung. All the subjects in this research had been supervised before, thus they could describe their perceptions on educational supervision. The result of the research showed that the teachers believed that educational supervision is an ongoing process to observe the way teachers teach in the classroom according to the lesson plan and to improve their teaching skills.

Abstract

The main problem which faced by rural Indonesian schools is teacher absenteeism which leads to low motivation students on teaching and learning process. The research aims to investigate the cause of teacher absenteeism in rural Indonesian schools. The participant of this research was the 4 pre-service teachers of SM-3T program who were sent to Sambas (Kalimantan Island), Maluku Barat Daya, Alor (East Nusa Tenggara), and Mamberamo (Papua). This research employs a narrative descriptive method. The techniques of data collection comprise questionnaire and in-depth interview. Furthermore, this study is supposed to contribute to the teacher professional development in the rural Indonesian schools.

Abstract

This article presents the efforts of teacher in enhancing students’ achievement through the implementation of cooperative learning model: Gallery Walk and Simulation (GALSIM). This classroom action research aims to describe the improvement of students’ achievement of Fiqh subject matter. The data was collected by observation, actions, documents, and tests. This two-cycle research used four steps i.e. planning, action, observation and reflection in each cycle. The results show that the implementation of GALSIM could improve students’ activity along the learning process. Moreover, the implementation of this model could also improve students’ achievement at the end of their study on Fiqh. Tulisan ini mengetengahkan upaya guru dalam meningkatkan prestasi siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif berupa Gallery Walk dan Simulation (GALSIM). Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemajuan prestasi siswa pada pelajaran Fikih. Data penelitian terkumpul melalui pengamatan, tindakan, dokumentasi, dan tes. Penelitian dengan dua siklus ini memanfaatkan empat langkah berupa perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan, dan refleksi dalam setiap siklusnya. Temuan riset ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan GALSIM dapat meningkatkan keaktifan siswa selama pembelajaran. Di samping itu, penerapan model ini dapat pula meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam mempelajari Fikih.

Abstract

By means of the innovations in Information and Communication Technology, people are able to rapidly learn and transfer information.. Keeping up with those innovations, the integration of ICT in education is the demand of time at present as ICT is being used in many other sectors all over the world. It urges the teachers to be skillful in operating ICT during their teaching.  However, there are some barriers for the teachers that prevent them to use ICT in the classroom. This paper is intended to explore the challenges of English teachers in integrating ICT into their teaching. To gain an in-depth result, this case study focuses on the interview of some English teachers in a certain school in Surakarta. The analysis of the data revealed that the barriers of English teachers in integrating ICT are lack of: ICT integration training, competence, equipment, and appropriate software and materials.

Abstract

This paper explores teachers’ beliefs in English teaching for young learners based on International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programe (IB PYP) and examines the interplay their beliefs on instructional practices. The researchers utilize a qualitative method and case study as a research design. Three English teachers at elementary school that implementing IB PYP in Surakarta participated in the study. Data is drawn from semi-structured interviews, observation and document analysis. For analyzing data, the researchers use an interactive model by Miles and Hubberman. The finding data indicates that most of teachers beliefs consistence with their instructional practices namely beliefs on learning objective, syllabus, classroom methods, instructional material and sources, media and assessment even thought the researcher find discrepancies namely teachers’ beliefs on lesson plan and classroom procedure. Abstract

One of the attempts to acquire an identity in the academic community is by participating in the field development by publishing research papers into reputable journals. However, it requires an adequate understanding of the academic discourse for publication. For this concern, the present study aims to investigate the master students' understanding of the term of academic discourse for publication by going through their rejected research articles and their identities reflected from those rejected manuscripts. A qualitative method was employed, the data were gathered through interview of four master students majoring in English Education and the stories are presented narratively. The results show how the students' lack of comprehension of the notion of academic discourse affects their identities as members of the academic community. Pedagogical implications of this study are intended for the master students as the manifestation for their upcoming article’s writing and publication.

Abstract

Technology in every field is snowballing. Likewise, the use of technology in education requires knowledge and understanding of English teachers. The fact that most of the technology for enhanced language learning workshop did not continue into the classrooms. Another case is that teachers do not want to use technology at all in their classrooms because of lacking time and facilities. TPACK namely Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge provides insight for pre-service teachers and in-service teachers of English to optimize three things for education; those are the aspect of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. With the use of this learning model, excellent technology, pedagogy, and knowledge will support and produce a comprehensive learning process. The purpose of this study was to examine the perception and implementation of pre-service teachers and in-service teachers about the literacy of the three above aspects. By using quantitative research, we get the data from questionnaires of 100 pre-service teachers and in-service teachers. The findings describe the demographic teacher with technology, pedagogy and content knowledge literacy (TPACK). The three points of the TPACK literacy are Pedagogical Content Knowledge for Multimodal Literacy, Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (21st C Learning), and Knowledge about digital media tools. The implications of this research give direction and the alternatives to the implementation of the TPACK model for English classroom. In future, it provides the advantages to developing the quality of English teachers’ professional development. Keywords:
