Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is a plantation crop that has an important role in the national economy. Conopomorpha cramerella Snellen is a pest that causes a decrease in cocoa production in the field. The recommended control is using botanical insecticides using soursop leaves (Annona muricata L). This study aimed to obtain best concentration of soursop leaf flour extract (A. muricata L) to control the attack of cocoa pod borer (C. cramerella Snellen) in the field. The research was conducted in the garden of residents of Nan Sabaris District, Padang Pariaman Regency, from July to October 2019. The research was carried out experimentally using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment of the concentration of soursop leaf powder extract given in each experimental unit was 0 gl-1 water, 20 gl-1 water, 40 gl-1 water, 60 gl-1 water, 80 gl-1 water and 100 gl-1 water. The results showed that soursop was able in controlling CPB (C. cramerella) pests at a concentration of 100 gl-1 water which reduced the percentage of affected fruit to 10% with the lowest fruit damage intensity, namely 12.48%, the largest fruit diameter was 18.15 cm, with the smallest larval population of 0.75 tails, and the maximum dry weight of seeds reaching 150.75 g.

Abstract

ONSPOT is a business owned by students of the Department of Agricultural Product Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University. This business is engaged in the contemporary beverage with the main ingredients of functional food yogurt and kefir. ONSPOT's business development received funding for activities through the University Student Entrepreneur Competition (KMP) activity in 2020 for the business development category. It is believed that this business prospect is quite promising in the future considering that ONSPOT products carry contemporary beverage products containing good bacteria that have an impact on health and have a good taste. However, the great potential that ONSPOT has to develop its products is not followed by an optimal marketing and branding process, where the marketing process is still carried out through communication from one person to another and through Instagram. The branding process is still constrained by minimal information. This causes the limitations of ONSPOT to be widely known by the public. Entrepreneurship development service activities by conducting training on ONSPOT website management and optimizing ONSPOT social media, so that ONSPOT appeals are increasingly recognized by the public

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan konsentrasi tepung bunga cengkeh terbaik dalam mengendalikan hama S. zeamais pada biji jagung di penyimpanan. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan empat perlakuan dan lima ulangan sehingga diperoleh 20 unit percobaan. Perlakuan merupakan konsentrasi tepung bunga cengkeh, yaitu 0%, 3%, 6% dan 9%. Parameter pengamatan meliputi waktu awal kematian, lethal time 50 (LT50), mortalitas harian, mortalitas total, penyusutan berat biji jagung, kerusakan biji jagung, dan pertambahan individu S. zeamais pada generasi pertama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian tepung bunga cengkeh konsentrasi 9% menyebabkan terjadinya waktu awal kematian tercepat yaitu 303,60 jam, mortalitas harian 4%, mortalitas total 24%, penyusutan berat biji jagung 3,80%, kerusakan biji jagung 12,86%, dan rata-rata jumlah pertambahan individu S. zeamais 23,00 ekor. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini bahwa pemberian tepung bunga cengkeh konsentrasi 9% cenderung memberikan hasil terbaik untuk mematikan S. zeamais, namun belum efektif dalam mengendalikan hama S. zeamais di penyimpanan.

Abstract

Rice is one of serealea comodity that susceptible with pest storage. One of the pest that often attack the rice in storage is Sitophilus oryzae L. The alternative for control S. oryzae L. as fumigant which enviromentally sound is Gliricidia sepium Jacq. as organic insecticide. This research aims to get the best dose G. sepium Jacq. leaf powder to control S. oryzae L. pest in rice storage. This research conducted at Laboratory of Plant Pest, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, Pekan baru from Mei until Juni 2016. This research arranged experimentally by using Completely Randomized Design consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment consist of 5 dose levels were 0 g/100 g rice, 2 g/100 g rice, 4 g/100 g rice, 6 g/100 g rice and 8 g/100 g rice. The result showed that giving of G. sepium Jacq. leaf powder with dose 8 g/100 g rice causes time of death beginningS. oryzae L. during 31.50 hours after application, lethal time 50 during 282.8 hours after application, total mortality was 70%, amount of generation was 9,75 beetles and decrease of seed weight’s rice was 1.08%.

Abstract

Rice commodities are the main food and are widely planted in Pulau Rambai Village, Kampa District, Kampar Regency. Pest attacks are the main obstacle in cultivating rice. The concept of integrated pest management (PHT) is applied to rice farmers. This management includes combining compatible pest management techniques, prioritizing natural management using natural enemies. This activity aims to provide counselling, assistance and guidance to rice farmers to implement PHT to increase the quantity and quality of rice production. The intended target was rice farmers in Pulau Rambai Village. The method of implementation carried out is counselling, mentoring and assisting. Counselling is in the form of presentation on farmers' paddy farms introducing the concept of PHT, management of plant cultivation that is not suitable for rice pest development, the introduction of natural enemies of pests, and types of environmentally friendly control such as vegetable pesticides and biological agents. Guidance and mentoring were also given to farmers in monitoring pests, natural enemies, and rice ecosystems. The level of achievement of the program targets was monitored from the questionnaire filled out by farmers before counselling and at the end of the mentoring activities program. From the questionnaire, there was a change in the views and knowledge of farmers in the concept of pest control. The program's achievement is also seen from the change in cultivation methods such as the legowo 4x1 system with three seeds per clump and pest control using biological pesticides according to the guidance.

Abstract

Hama Helicoverpa armigera Hubner merupakan masalah utama dalam budidaya jagung. H. armigera  dapat menyebabkan kehilangan hasil 40%. Pengendalian menggunakan Insektisida nabati ekstrak biji sirsak (Annona muricata L.) merupakan salah satu alternatif pengendalian H. armigera. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan konsentrasi ekstrak tepung biji sirsak yang efektif untuk mematikan larva H armigera pada jagung. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Hama Tumbuhan  Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Riau pada bulan Agustus sampai Oktober 2020. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan enam perlakuan dan empat ulangan sehingga diperoleh 24 unit percobaan. Perlakuannya adalah konsentrasi ekstrak tepung biji sirsak 0 g.l-1 air, 20 g.l-1 air, 40 g.l-1 air, 60 g.l-1 air, 80 g.l-1 air dan 100 g.l-1 air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konsentrasi 100 gl-1 air merupakan konsentrasi yang efektif dalam mematikan larva H. armigera sebesar 85% dengan waktu awal kematian tercepat pada 9,00 jam, lethal time 50 pada 45 jam setelah aplikasi, kematian harian tertinggi terjadi pada hari ketiga yaitu 30% sesudah 5 hari setelah aplikasi.

Abstract

Chili plants are one of the horticultural commodities that have economic value and are widely planted in Sungai Geringging Village, Kampar Kiri District, Kampar Regency. The main obstacle in achieving the quantity and quality of chili production is the attack of pests and diseases. This service aims to provide knowledge to chili farmers in Sungai Geringging Village about the types of pest and disease that attack chilies, symptoms of attack, and methods of control. The extension methods are lectures, questions and answers, discussions, demonstrations and practices with regard to chili plants. Extension is in the form of indoor presentation using LCD and in-focus tools by demonstrating the types of pest and disease that attack chilies and their attack symptoms, discussion and question and answer about pests and diseases of chili plants and their control techniques. Service programs in the form of counseling and demonstrations have been very well responded by chili farmers, counseling and demonstrations with material on how to introduce and control chili pests have never been received, plus in the cultivation of chili plants the obstacles that are often faced by farmers are problems with pests and diseases therefore participating farmers pay closer attention.

Abstract

Cassava (Manihot utilissima) is the third food source in Indonesia. Cassava commodity has economic value and is widely planted in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) Kulim, Pekanbaru City. This service aims to provide knowledge and skills to cassava farmers in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Kulim Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) of Pekanbaru Municipality about the types of pests and diseases that attack, symptoms of attacks, and their control techniques. The target of service is mainly cassava farmers in the Technical Implementation Unit of the Agricultural Extension Agency (UPTBPP) Kulim Pekanbaru Municipality so that farmers' incomes become better and more prosperous. The service method used the method of counseling and demonstration. The extension method uses LCD and infocus, pictures of pests, life cycles, damage are presented, along with explanations of control techniques. The demonstration method includes the practice of control techniques consisting of first introducing natural enemies in the form of videos, making glumon traps and making forest betel leaf and soursop vegetable pesticides. The measuring instrument for achieving the goals of service was the understanding and knowledge of farmers about pests and diseases of cassava plants, controlling cassava pests and changing farmers' views on pest control no longer prioritizing the use of synthetic pesticides and the ability of farmers to recognize the types of natural enemies of pests. Achievement is measured by distributing questionnaires to determine changes and increase in farmer knowledge. The results of the service program in the form of counseling and demonstrations were very well responded by cassava farmers. Participants paid close attention, asked many questions. The results of the questionnaire assessment of farmers showed an increase in farmers' understanding of controlling pests and diseases of cassava plants after service activities. Thus this service will provide great benefits to cassava farmers in controlling pests and diseases in cassava cultivation.

Abstract

ON SPOT is a street vendor business engaged in contemporary beverages with the main ingredients of functional food yogurt and kefir. Not long ago, ON SPOT experienced problems in the form of losing its market due to restrictions on community activities during the pandemic, so it had to change the target market from students to housewives to stay afloat. The strategy is to process yogurt and kefir into mambo ice sticks that are more easily accepted by housewives. However, it is necessary to make good business development efforts so that products are more accepted by consumers such as products that have been produced with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and have business legality to ensure product quality. The methods carried out in community counseling are in the form of training and mentoring approaches to ON SPOT, so that ON SPOT can develop business better and have business legality. Entrepreneurial devotion activities carried out, produce ON SPOT products produced with GMP standards so as to ensure products are safe to consume and have legality in the form of business licenses.

Abstract

The use of chemical pesticides is still considered for rice farmers to be one of the most effective ways for pest control. The chemical content in pesticides is toxic and causes an increased risk for farmers and the environment if their use is not under applicable regulations. The limited knowledge of farmers about the application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and lack of discipline in the use of pesticides has triggered environmental damage, especially the lowland rice ecosystem and human health. This study aims to determine the use of pesticides by rice farmers in Siak Regency in controlling rice pests. The method used is a purposive sampling interview method using a questionnaire. The results showed that rice farmers had not implemented a pest control system based on the IPM principle, which did not pay attention to the control threshold as a basis for pesticide use. Farmers are satisfied with the effectiveness of chemical pesticides in pest control, so they continue to use them in rice farming. The lack of Farmers' knowledge about IPM and its application can trigger farmers to increase the dosage and frequency of spraying if the chemical pesticides used are not able to control the pest.
