Abstract

Brushing your teeth can't remove tartar, what can remove tartar is scaling. scaling can have a negative impact on the teeth, because previously the teeth were surrounded by tartar, and after scaling there is an empty space in the subgingival area and leaves a wound or scratch on the tooth tissue, causing the tooth to feel sore or painful. This study aimed to analyze the increase in dentin sensitivity after scaling at the Dental Polyclinic, Grestelina Hospital, Makassar. The design of research was one group pretest-posttest. The subjects were 30 patient, selected using accidental sampling technique. Pain before and after the procedure was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test. The results of the Wilcoxo test showed a p value = 0.000, so it could be interpreted that there was a difference in the level of dentin sensitivity between before and after the scaling procedure. In this case, after scaling, the sensitivity level becomes increasingly severe. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the scaling action significantly increases the sensitivity of the dentin, so that the pain becomes more severe. Abstract

Mouthwash from natural ingredients is more efficient, environmentally friendly, easy to obtain, and has minimal side effects, one of which is bay leaf. This study aims to analyze the effect of gargling using bay leaf extract (Eugenia polyantha wight) on the reduction of plaque index. This study was a literature review. Information obtained from text books, journals, books and other literature (8). The information is collected and processed by the steps of editing, organizing and interpreting. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that gargling using bay leaf extract can reduce plaque index because bay leaves contain flavonoids, essential oils, eugenol and tannins which have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects. Keywords: bay leaf (Eugenia polyantha wight); gargling; plaque index

Abstract

Dental and oral health is closely related to knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. The environment plays a very important role in the formation of attitudes and behavior for school-age children. The immediate environment where school-age children are located is the family (parents and siblings) and the school environment. The role of parents and teachers is very decisive in changing attitudes and behavior in the maintenance of children's dental and oral health. The purpose of this study was to analyze the role and behavior of parents in order to maintain dental and oral hygiene in children aged 6-10 years. This study was a literature review. Information obtained from text books, journals, books and other literature. The information is collected and processed by the steps of editing, organizing and interpreting. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded: 1) Parents are examples and role models that can be imitated by children, one of which is in maintaining dental and oral health. Therefore, the role of parents is very important and very large in maintaining dental and oral health in children. The effect on the incidence of caries in children is influenced by knowledge, awareness, and habits of parents in caring for children's dental and oral health. 2) The role of parents in maintaining the health of their children's teeth and mouth is to teach children how to brush their teeth properly, namely brushing their teeth 2 times a day every morning after breakfast and at night before going to bed, taking children to the dentist every 6 months, and also giving education about good food and drink to maintain the health of children's teeth and mouth. 3) Parental behavior towards children's dental and oral health is divided into two, namely open behavior and closed behavior. Where closed behavior refers to parental attention, perception, knowledge/awareness, and attitudes. While open behavior is a form of action/practice of closed behavior. Abstract

Stunting in toddlers is a problem for the world. The causes of stunting are very broad, in the sense that it involves very many factors. Stunting in children under five is one of the main health problems with several characteristics, namely: 1) occurring in a wide scope; 2) involves very diverse determinants; 3) is chronic. Thus, based on logic, the approach used to prevent stunting in children under five must also be relevant to these characteristics. In relation to the first and second characteristics, currently stunting prevention efforts in all regions and levels have been carried out intensively, as well as efforts carried out across programs and across sectors. Evidence-based stunting prevention efforts have also been implemented involving educational institutions and research and development institutions. Evidence based practice in stunting prevention has become a must, so that the efforts made have the right direction, so that they can achieve the expected goals. Abstract

Most of the results of correlation analysis between variables are not equipped with visualization, so it is deemed necessary to explain how best to visualize the results of correlation analysis, especially for numerical variables. In this case, the best way to present correlations between numerical variables is a scatter diagram. If the points on the diagram are closer to the straight line, the higher the correlation coefficient, meaning that the degree of correlation is getting stronger. In this case, the positive correlation is indicated by the line from the lower left to the upper right. This visualization helps clarify the reader's understanding of the results of the correlation analysis, as well as being a valuable lesson for their similar research projects. Abstract

Tooth extraction is the act of removing a tooth from the socket in the alveolar bone. The wound healing process is divided into 4 continuous phases, namely hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling or maturation phases. Binahong leaf extract gel contains flavonoids, alkaloids, oleanolic acid, ascorbic acid, saponins and proteins used as antimicrobials. This study aims to determine that the binahong leaf extract gel has an effect on accelerating wound healing after tooth extraction. Binahong leaf extract gel was effective for accelerating wound healing after tooth extraction on the 10th day post test compared to the administration of povidone iodine, this was evidenced by the average inflammation control group of 0.81 seen from wound closure of 0.56 and the average intervention group seen from inflammation was 0.25 with p-value of 0.011 seen from wound closure of 0.13 with p-value of 0.010. As conclusion, giving binahong leaf extract gel 13% for 10 days has an effect on faster wound healing after tooth extraction compared to povidone iodine. Abstract

Early childhood development can be detected through developmental pre-screening, with the aim of detecting early developmental disorders. The research objective was to analyze the effectiveness of the use of pre-screening questionnaires to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers in detecting early childhood development. The design of this study was a pre test - post test, involving 60 mothers of children under five. Observations were made before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there was an increase in maternal knowledge and skills after being given the intervention. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of developmental pre-screening questionnaires is effective in increasing the knowledge and skills of mothers under five in early detection of child development. Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is one of the biggest micro problems in Indonesia which occurs in toddlers, school children, pregnant women and teenagers. Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood and the beginning of the separation of nutritional needs based on gender. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and compliance of young women and consuming iron tablets at SMPN 1 Makale Utara. This type of research was analytical observational. Researchers applied a cross-sectional design in this study. Subjects were 50 female students, selected using stratified random sampling technique based on representatives of each class. The measurements of the two variables above were carried out by filling out questionnaires directly by young women. The hypothesis testing was carried out using the Chi-square test. Table 4 shows that the better the level of knowledge, the higher the level of compliance with taking iron tablets. The p value from the results of hypothesis testing was 0.001, so it was interpreted that the level of knowledge was correlated with the level of compliance of young female students in consuming iron tablets. Based on the research results, it could be concluded that the compliance of young women at SMPN 1 Makale Utara in consuming iron tablets is related to their level of knowledge.
