Abstract

This research entitled “A Multimodal Analysis of English Courses’ Printed Advertisement In South Jakarta” is a linguistic study of multimodal text which is concerned with texts that contain the interaction with both verbal and visual semiotic modes in order to achieve the communicative functions of the text. Multimodality or multimodal discourse analysis provides the tools and techniques to analyse texts which employ more than one mode of discourse. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify the verbal and visual elements of English Courses' brochures advertisement and (2) to describe the representation of verbal and visual elements of English Courses' brochures advertisement. This thesis is using qualitative descriptive to describe printed advertisement texts featuring verbal and visual elements consisted in the advertisements. In this thesis, the data that the writer analyzed is brochures as printed media of English Courses which located in South Jakarta. The instruments of collecting data in this thesis are observation, interview, and documentation. Halliday‟s Ideational Function and the Representational by Kress and van Leeuwen‟ are used to analyze the verbal and the visual texts. The results of the analysis is found that the most common verbal element used in the brochures is Announcement and the most common visual element used in the brochures is Lead. The verbal and visual elements are frequently represented by Material Process and Action Process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of motivation on intensive English listening skills in class XI students of SMAN 15 Bekasi. Abstract and keywords are written in English. The number of respondents was 76 students. The method used is a quantitative method. The data will be tested for validity, reliability, motivation to contribute to intensive listening skills of 22.09% and the remaining contribution of 77.91% is the contribution of other factors not examined, secondly there is a strong positive relationship between the variables of Learning Motivation on intensive listening skills on the eye. Abstract

The aims of this study were: (1) Class VIII-1 students' learning activities at SMP Negeri 10 Depok in applying the Non-Directive Method using Map Media. (2) student learning outcomes of class VIIII in applying the non-directive method using map media. The subjects in this study were 38 class VIII-1 students of SMP Negeri 10 Depok. Data collection techniques used direct and indirect communication, the data collection tool in this study used observation and test sheets. The tests used are in accordance with the achieved curriculum objectives and are taken from textbooks for class VIII SMP Negeri 10 Depok. To collect research data using worksheets and post tests. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, namely cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle has stages - the stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The results of this study indicate that there is an increase in students' learning abilities with student mastery reaching 35.18% then increasing in cycle I to 46.22%. From the results of the research, it can be seen also the increase in students' learning abilities with worksheets in cycles. 1. the level of student completeness reached 69.44% then increased in cycle II to 94.44%. From the analysis carried out, it can be concluded that the non-directive learning method can increase student learning activities and outcomes in SMP Negeri 10 Depok students in the 2010/2011 academic year. Abstract

Interest in reading among students is still low. Students are only able to understand the procedural text well. Procedure text is a text description that contains the text of a program and tool. Students are expected to have an interest in reading well. Entrepreneurial practice is an important factor in the success of entrepreneurship lessons. This research uses quantitative. There is an influence of reading interest on entrepreneurship learning outcomes, there is an influence of practice on entrepreneurship student learning outcomes and there is a guide for reading interest and entrepreneurship practice on entrepreneurship learning outcomes for students of SMK Mulia Kencana, Bogor district. Respondents were 43 students of class XI SMK Mulia Kencana. Data is processed using SPSS 22. Data is processed by reliability and collinearity tests, then processed by hypothesis testing and the r Square test. Entrepreneurship learning needs to be improved in quality and attention for teachers and the government. Schools can reactivate programs to increase interest in reading and entrepreneurial practice
