Abstract

This study dealt with the development of English Reading Materials of vocational school, Al-WashliyahTeladan Medan, majoring Software Engineering. The objectives of this study were to: 1) find out language skill and materials are needed by the students of Software Engineering, 2) develop the English materials for the majoring in software engineering students at the vocational high school grade XII. This study was conducted by Educational Research and Development R&D (Borg & Gall, 1989). The data of this research were from existing documents and the result of interview with teacher and student. The results of the research conveyed that the existing reading materials were mostly irrelevant because the title and content of the material was not appropriate and was not required for the students majoring in software engineering. The new English reading materials and syllabus were developed based on the students need related to the workplace. The materials and syllabus were developed from the existing materials from teacher. The developing materials were validated by two experts.

Abstract

Penelitian  ini  bertujuan  untuk  menginventarisasikan  proses  penamaan  tekstual  ornamen  rumah gadang minangkabau.  Penelitian  ini  menggunakan  model  analisis interaktif  Miles,  Hurberman  dan  Saldana.  Data diperoleh   dari   hasil   wawancara   mendalam,   observasi   berperan   dan   dokumentasi.Data   yang   telah dikondensasikan   dianalisis   menggunakan   konsep   Sudrayat   dan   dilihat   dari   makna   kulturalnya   dengan menggunakan  konsep  Abdullah.  Adapun  nama-nama  ornamen  tersebut  sebagai  berikut: Siriah  Gadang ‘sirih besar’, Lumuik Hanyuik ‘lumut hanyut’, Aka Cino Saganggang ‘akar cina seganggang’ , Pucuak Rabuang ‘ pucuk rebung’, Jalo Taserak ‘jala tersebar’, Saluak Laka ‘ jalinan lidi atau rotan’, Lapiah Batang Jarami ‘ lapis batang jerami’,  Labah  Mangirok ‘lebah mengirap’,  Itiak  Pulang  Patang ‘itik pulang petang’,  Tupai  Managun ‘tupai tertegun’,  Tatandu  Manyasok  Bungo ‘ulat menghisap bunga’,  Kaluak  Paku ‘tumbuhan pakis’,  Pisang  Sasikek ‘pisang seikat’, Buah Palo Bapatah ‘buah pala patah’ , Aka Barayun ‘akar berayun’, Saik Galamai ‘potongan wajik’, Carano  Kanso ‘ tempat untuk meletakkan sirih, pinang dan gambir’, Tangguak Lamah ‘tangguk lemah’,  Si Kambang Manih ‘si bunga manis’, SajambaMakan ‘makan berjamba’. Makna kultural dari kedua puluh nama-nama ornamen rumah gadangMinangkabau semuanya mengenai  makna tentang hubungan manusia dengan manusia atau kehidupan bermasyarakat.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to classify the type of directive speech in Surah An-Nisa translation. The definition and meaning of the directive speech act by Searle (1979) was applied in this study to identify the directive speech in Surah An-Nisa’ translation. The data source was the text of Al-Quran Mushaf Utsmani with its translation in Bahasa Indonesia from the Ministry of Religion of Indonesia. The qualitative method was applied in this study. The data of this research were utterances originating from the text of the Al-Quran and their translation. The directive speech acts in Surah An-Nisa' consists of 176 verses as the object of study. The data collection technique used was document study. The data were analyzed by using Miles Huberman data analysis. The study results showed that there were six types of directive speech acts in Surah An-Nisa’. They were (1) directive speech acts of commanding, (2) prohibiting, (3) advises, (4) asking, (5) persuading, and (6) allowing.
