Abstract

Shorea javanica was a high dependent plant to ectomycorrhizal symbiosis, dealing with its growth. In Lampung Province, S.javanica standing stock have been hundreds of years, known as repong damar.  It's threatened by some deforestation, such as forest fire.  This study aimed to analyze the impact of heating on the ability of ectomycorrhizal colonization and analyze the effect of ectomycorrhizal inoculation on the growth of S. javanica.  The experiment arranged by randomized complete design with 5 treatments, which were without inoculum, unheated inoculum, soil inoculums heat to 40oC, 70oC and 100°C for 24 hours. Soil inoculums are taken under S. javanica standing, at Krui, Pesisir Barat District, Lampung Province. The result analyzed by ANOVA and continued with LSD test.  The experiment was conducted for four months.  The results show that colonization ectomycorrhiza still existed up to 100oC and ectomycorrhiza could enhance growth variables, including height, leaves number, leaf area, root length and root dry weight. The best colonization and growth were on 100oC heating. The heat treatments seem killed some fungus.  Only a few fungi could resist and colonize S. javanica roots.  Without any competitors, the resist ectomycorrhizal could develop broadly.

Abstract

Margasari village has a mangrove area of approximately 700 ha. As the main actors in mangrove management, the people of Margasari Village need to be equipped with basic knowledge about the role and function of mangroves, mangrove zoning, and types of mangrove vegetation. The purpose of this activity is to increase people's knowledge about mangroves, change people's mindsets towards mangrove conservation, and improve the ability to manage and use mangroves wisely and sustainably. Lectures and discussions as well as demonstrations are used as outreach methods. This activity is able to increase public understanding of the role and function of mangroves, so that it can change the mindset of people who are afraid of the law in maintaining mangroves and they can participate in preserving mangroves. A good understanding of mangrove zoning will change the mindset of the community, which initially considered the most important mangrove plant species to be Rhizophora spp, to all types of mangrove vegetation having an important role in the ecosystem. Increased knowledge about mangrove vegetation types has provided awareness that the Margasari Village area has a very favorable location for various types of mangroves, so that it can be optimized to improve community welfare.

Abstract

Hanura Village is one of the villages in Teluk Pandan District, Pesawaran Regency. Hanura is an economic center for nearby villages, so the market is quite busy. The market in Hanura Village is very successful because it provides as a central for nearby villages' economies. This is a problem because market waste accumulates and market waste management is not optimal. This program aims to increase public awareness of the need to compost organic waste by training market administrators on how to process waste into organic fertilizer. The method of the program carried out is counseling and training in making compost. According to the pre-test and post-test, there was a 45–60% increase in people's knowledge and how to use compost. The outcomes of this program show that the neighborhood was given the information from the waste management counseling at the compost fertilizer market.

Abstract

Kata kunci: tumbuhan penutup tanah; Desmodium trifolium; media tumbuh ABSTRACTPost-mining land is open land that is easily degraded, so it is necessary to conduct revegetation, especially using cover crop legumes. This study aimed to propagate the legume cover crop Desmodium triflorum on several media. The data was analysed using ANOVA with SPSS software version 10.01. The results showed that the media treatment had a very significant effect on germination, average days of germination, germination height, and the number of leaves of Desmodium trifolium plants, but not significant effect on the number of germinated seeds. The soil treatment with husk charcoal mixed to Desmodium trifolium indicated the best average germination, average germination day, average germination height, and average number of leaves with (33.33%), (9.41 days), (9.91 cm) and (7.34 pieces), respectively, when compared to the mixed soil media with sawdust treatment. Keywords: legume cover crop; Desmodium trifolium; growth media
