Abstract

Abstract: One of the objectives of teaching English for university students is the students are expected to understand the reading text. However, it is very difficult for the students to catch the message from the reading text as they have limited words and reading strategies. This research was intended to solve the students’ problem relating to the reading comprehension. The aim of this research is to prove whether the implementation of scanning technique is effective to develop students’ reading comprehension. Pre-experimental research design is implemented as the resercher only used one class experimental. In choosing the sample of the research, purposive sampling technique is applied. In collecting the data the researcher administered test; pre-test and post-test. Pre-test is used to find out the students’ real competence in doing the reading test, while post-test is used to determine the effect of scanning technique in developing the students’ reading comprehension. After analysing the data statisticaly, the result shows that there is a significant improvement toward the students’ competence in reading comprehension. The score of the students’ test increases from 4.48 of pre-test to 9.1 of post test. It means that the implementation of scanning technique contributes significantly toward the students’ reading comprehension.   Keywords: scanning, technique, comprehension

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar bahasa Inggris siswa kelas IX  MTS Model I Palu pada kompetensi dasar “stating the Intention/Purpose” melalui penerapan model pembelajaran discovery learning berbantuan video. Sampel penelitian adalah kelas IX a karena hasil belajar bahasa Inggris relatif masih rendah pada semester sebelumnya. Penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan selama dua siklus. Penelitian PTK dilakukan dengan tahapan-tahapan;perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar observasi dan tes hasil belajar. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh dari hasil pengamatan bahwa model pembelajaran discovery learning berbantuan video sanat efektif meningkatkan peran aktif siswa dalam belajar akan tetapi hasil tersebut belum mampu memperbaiki hasil belajar siswa disiklus I dimana persentasi jumlah siswa yang mendapatkan nilai diatas KKM masih rendah yaitu 31,25%. Berdasarkan data tersebut, penelitian ini dilanjutkan ke siklus II dengan memperbaiki langkah-langkah pelaksanaan yang telah dilakukan pada siklus I. Akhirnya pada siklus II persentasi hasil belajar siswa naik secara signifikan menjadi 75%.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui masalah membaca yang dihadapi oleh siswa SMPN 14 Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas delapan SMPN 14 Palu, dengan jumlah 24 siswa yang diambil dari delapan kelas dengan menggunakan teknik random sampling. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan melakukan wawancara, tes, daftar pentanyaan, dan aktifitas pengamatan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa menghadapi banyak masalah yang meliputi 1 mereka kekurangan kosakata; 2 mereka kesulitan untuk menentukan ide pokok dalam teks bacaan; dan 3 mereka sulit untuk mengucapkan kata ketika membaca teks.Kata kunci: Masalah, Membaca.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan media gambar dapat meningkatkan penggunaan preposisi tempat pada siswa kelas delapan MTs. Bina Potensi Sis Al-Jufri Palu. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian pre ekseperimental terdiri atas tes awal dan tes akhi. Sampel dari penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan sampel secara keseluruhan dan telah memilih kelas delapan dengan jumlah 25 siswa. Peneliti mengolah data menggunakan statistic. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung 8,669 lebih tinggi dari t-table 1.812 yang berarti hipotesanya diterima. Itu menyimpulkan bahwa menggunakan media gambar dapat meningkatkan penggunaan preposisi siswa kelas delapan MTs BIna Potensi Palu.Kata kunci: Meningkatkan, Menerapkan, preposisi, gambar

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out that the use of transformational drill technique was effective to improve the students’ ability in learning passive voice. The research was pre-experimental research. The sample of the research was the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Palu that consisted of 29 students. The researcher employed total sampling technique. The researcher used two instruments, namely test and questionnaire. The data were analysed by statistical analysis. The result of data analysis show that the t-counted (13.9) was greater than the t-table (1.70). In short, transformational drill technique is effective to teach passive voice at the tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Palu.Key words: Passive Voice, transformational drill technique.
