Abstract

An athlete's achievement is influenced by innate talent, internal motivation, and external factors such as family, coach, facilities, and competition. This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence medals for participating athletes in the 2019 SEA Games. The research method used is a case-control study. The case group was athletes who received medals, and the control group was those who did not win medals. A total of 24 athletes who won medals and 22 athletes who did not win medals were involved in this study purposively. The instrument used in this study was a self-administered questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted by using multiple logistic regressions. The results showed that three factors are influencing the medal acquisition of SEA GAMES athletes in 2019. These factors, including participating in various sports during childhood (OR: 9,7), training facilities (OR: 11), and competition, came into the most influential variable (OR: 12,5). In general, types of competition, match results identification; training methods; and availability of facilities all impact the fighting power of athletes. In conclusion, there needs to be a more role from the sports governing body in meeting the needs of athletes' facilities and diversifying athletes to try and participate in several types of sports before specializing in certain sports.

Abstract

Psychological aspects, such as self-perception and parental involvement, are essential for child development and school-age basketball athlete achievements. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-perception and parental involvement of the students and their enjoyment of playing basketball. The method used in this study was the quantitative method using a cross-sectional approach. This research was conducted in 2021. The population involved school-age basketball athletes aged 12 to 14 years from 6 Basketball Clubs in Bandung and the parents of the athletes involved in the training process. The Physical Self Perception Profile for Children (PSPP-C), Parental Involvement in Sport Questionnaire (PISQ), and Source of Enjoyment in Youth Sport Questionnaire (SEYSQ-H) were the three questionnaires used in this study. Bivariate analysis of this study used the chi-square test. The chi-square test showed that the self-perception variable and parental involvement variable each had indicated a significant relationship with playing enjoyment. The results showed that f = 45 (37.5%) had a poor playing enjoyment and f = 75 45 (62.5%) had a reasonable playing enjoyment. Athletes who lack self-perception and parental involvement have a higher risk of experiencing less delight in playing basketball than athletes who have good self-perceptions and parental involvement.

Abstract

Early specialization in sports for young elite athletes was undertaken for a variety of positive reasons, but it also can lead to increased vulnerability to injury, burnout, limited skill development, and negative effects on mental well-being as a result of intense training from a young age. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between age of sport specialization and training components to the achievements. This was a correlational survey and a cross-sectional approach to elite athletes in the city of Bandung. The sample for this study consisted of 84 high-level athletes who competed in 27 different sports and were eligible for athlete incentives from the government. Athletes were surveyed using a questionnaire to answer questions about their debut age, training frequency, duration, intensity, and highest championship achievement. The results of bivariate analysis showed that age, gender, age of specialization, duration of exercise, and intensity of exercise were not related to sports achievement. Based on the results of statistical analysis, it was known that the frequency of exercise was significantly correlated with sports achievement. Compared to athletes who train less than five times per week, athletes who train more than five times per week were found to have higher performance. Future possible research will assist in identifying the success factors of young athletes who begin sports specialisation at a young age.
