Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Sequence Pictures Technique can improve the ninth grade students’ skill in writing procedure text. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu which consisted of 119 students. The sample of this research was 30 students of class IX Ahmad Yani as the experimental class. Meanwhile, 29 students of class IX Cut Nyak Dien categorized as the control class. The sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The technique of data collection was test. The test included pre-test and post-test, with the mean score of 56.11 for experimental class, and 71.67 for control class on pre-test. While on post-test, the results were 73.33 for experimental class and 77.22 for control class. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 28 degree of freedom (df), as can be seen that the value of t-counted was (3.58) and t-table was (1.701). The t-counted value was higher than t-table value, which meant that the research hypothesis was accepted. This study suggests that the use of Sequence Pictures technique can improve students’ writing skill in procedure text.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to find out the learning strategies in writing procedure text and to know about the students reasons for using those strategies by VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Banawa Selatan. The subject of this research was VIII grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Banawa Selatan which the total number 104 students consist of four classes. 21 students were taken as the sample used simple random sampling. Researcher conducted this research using qualitative research types and data collecting used questionnaire and interview. The result of questionnaire shows that in writing procedure text most of the students use strategies in learning such as cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies, memory related strategies, compensatory strategies, affective strategies, and social strategies. Based on the result of interview session, it can be concluded that the reasons of the students for using these strategies because they want to write procedure text well. The most dominant used learning strategies by the subjects is cognitive strategy. Majority of the subjects more frequently use this strategy among all of strategies in learning procedure text.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate whether or not the students’ speaking ability can improve through the Everyone is A Teacher Here Method in teaching speaking skill of tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This research applies quasi experimental design, that used two classes, they are experimental class and control class. The research population was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Palu which is consisted of 325 students. The samples were selected by purposive sampling technique and it was 17 students of X Mipa 6a and 16 students of X Mipa 6b. The instruments that was used to collect the data was tests. The tests include pre-test and post-test, with the pre-test mean score 35.29 for experimental class and 35.63 for control class. While post-test mean score is 45.29 for experimental class and 37.50 for control class. The result of the data is analyzed statistically by applying the t-test formula. The result of the data analysis show that the value of t-counted is 2.45. Applying the degree of freedom 31 (Nx + Ny – 2 = 17 + 16 – 2) and 0.05 level of significance the value of t-table is 1.567. The calculation show that the t-test value is higher than the t-table value. It means that the hypothesis of this research is accepted. It affirms that Everyone is A teacher Here Method can improve students’ speaking skill of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties and causes of difficulties for class VIII students in writing narrative texts. This study uses a qualitative research design. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII B, totaling 20 students. In this study, data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires and interviews. Based on the results of the analysis of questionnaires and interviews, it is known that students have difficulty in writing narrative texts. The difficulty lies in the tenses of the narrative text, the difficulty in placing punctuation and capital letters, and the difficulty in understanding the generic structure of the written narrative. The causes of difficulties in writing narrative texts are lack of vocabulary, lack of writing practice, and the last cause is the obstacles experienced by students when learning online. The solution that the researchers gave to the students was that students were expected to learn more about narrative text material and increase English vocabulary so that students could more easily understand and writing narrative texts.
