Abstract

Abstract – X brand morning whitening body lotion, X brand night whitening bodylotion, and X brand bleaching unregistered to National Agency of Drugs andFoods Controls (BPOM) are widely used for skin whitening. This research wascarried out to analyze mercury (Hg) level which could possibly be found in thepreparations. Mercury (Hg) should not be used as skin whitening since it can beaccumulated in the body in the long run and eventually can be toxic and damagebody organs. Organoleptic test was conducted using miscibility test got fromPharmaceutics The Science of Dosage Form Design to determine emulsion typesof each preparation. The results showed that the preparations used had emulsiontype of oil in water (o/w). The mercury analysis used the method adopted from2005’s AOAC (Official Methods of Analysis of AOAC International). The studyusing ICPS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometer) showed linearity resultswith r = 0.9993 and Vxo = 2.02%; wave length used was ? = 253.652 nm; LLOD(Lower Limit of Detection) and LLOQ (Lower Limit of Quantitation) values were0.25 ppm and 0.84 ppm; CV (Coefficient of Variation) for each preparation was0%; 0.28%; 0.26%; recovery % value for mercury (Hg) in each preparation rangefrom 80.30-101.0%; 80.5-98.5%; 80.25-98.5%. the overall findings implied thatthis method meets the requirements in terms of linearity, selectivity, precision,LLOD, LLOQ, and accuracy.

Abstract

Abstract

Modified-Partial Capacity Design (M-PCD) is proposed as one alternative of structural design methods. In M-PCD, the partial side sway mechanism where beams and some columns may develop plastic hinges. This method uses two structural models during the design process. The models are used to simulate undamaged and damaged structures when subjected to design earthquake (R=8.0) and larger target earthquake (R=1.6) respectively. In this study, 6- and 15-story square buildings with 30% and 50% elastic column are designed using M-PCD. Performances of the buildings are investigated by using non-linear time history analysis. Results show that the buildings’ performances are still unsatisfactory, especially for the 15-story buildings. However, it should be noted that the levels of earthquakes used for the analysis were larger than that used for the design. A more accurate prediction of the required strength should be developed further to improve M-PCD.

Abstract

Catfish (Pangasius sp.) belly, a by-product of the frozen fish fillet industry, has certain processing limitations, thereby reducing product utilization and selling value. It is a potential process for producing products with highl market acceptance. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between the chemical characteristics of a catfish belly in various smoking methods and its sensory profile. Various smoking methods in this research include smoking cabinets, vertical offset smokers, traditional smoking houses, and liquid smoke, which had different parameters of time, temperature, and distance to the smoke source. The chemical characteristics of smoked catfish belly were determined in terms of proximates, total phenols, and total acid. The sensory profiles in the form of intensity of 8 attributes of smoked catfish belly were obtained using the Rate-All-That-Apply method accompanied by a hedonic test (n = 80). Different smoking parameters in each method greatly influence the chemical characteristics and sensory profiles produced. Methods with longer smoking times will produce lower water content,  increasing the fat content and a strong smoky aroma and taste. The correlation between chemical characteristics, sensory profile, and hedonic was also analyzed using Partial Least Square Regression (PLS regression) to determine the relationship with the stomach of smoked catfish belly using various methods. Of all the methods, the smoking cabinet was the optimal method for processing smoked catfish belly.
