Abstract

Corn Gluten Meal (CGM) and Corn Steep Powder (CSP) are corn-based feed raw materials that have the potential to be used as raw materials for milkfish feed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the digestibility value of CGM and CSP as raw materials for milkfish feed. Milkfish weighing 7.6±0.684 g was stocked into 12 aquariums measuring 60 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm and the water volume was 15 liters. The study consisted of 3 different types of feeding and 3 replications, namely: K: Reference feed (control), A: CGM test feed and B: CSP test feed. The results showed that the use of CGM and CSP as feed raw materials did not effect on feed intake, specific growth rate and feed efficiency of milkfish. The CGM and CSP test feeds resulted in lower nutrient digestibility values compared to the reference feed. CGM and CSP were not effectively used as raw material for milkfish feed.

Abstract

Feed is the main component in the cultivation of milkfish. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of Corn Gluten Meal (CGM) as a protein source in the diet on the growth performance of milkfish. This research was conducted experimentally with initial milkfish weight of 4.9 ± 1.24 g/fish obtained from milkfish farmers on the north coast of Banten. The study design used a completely randomized design with five different treatments of CGM levels (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% CGM) and 4 replications were used in this study. Milkfish are kept in an aquarium (60 x 40 x 60 cm) with a density of 15 individuals/aquarium for 50 days. The results showed that the best value of feed efficiency, specific growth rate, and protein effiency ratio were obtained in CGM 75% treatment than the other treatments. The use of CGM in feed also had no effect (P> 0.05) on the survival rate of the milkfish. CGM can be used as proteon source in milkfish feed.

Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a feed additive that can improve the reproductive performance of fish. It has never been given to the endemic fish Oryzias woworae which can lay eggs every day. Therefore, a study was conducted that aims to examine spawning activities related to egg-laying behavior, number of eggs, and egg diameter of O. woworae. The study used a sex ratio of 1♂:1♀ in spawning. The test feeds were commercial feed (Feng Li 1) or 0% without spirulina (treatment A), the addition of spirulina 5% (treatment B), 10% (treatment C), and 20% (treatment D). Observations were made every hour for 6 days. The spawning temperature was controlled at a value of 26.6±0.2°C. The results showed differences in the behavior of O. woworae in releasing eggs on spawning days. Giving spirulina causes the behavior of releasing eggs to occur at intervals of 1-3 hours, while without spirulina, it only occurs 1 hour on spawning days. The highest number of eggs was produced by giving spirulina 20% with a diameter range of 1.35-1.37 mm. The presence of a small egg diameter in the 20% spirulina treatment indicated that an increase in the number of eggs affected the ovaries capacity, so the diameter decreased. However, the average diameter of 20% of spirulina eggs was still the same as without spirulina administration. The stable temperature at 26.6±0.2°C caused the spawning activity of O. woworae to only occur in the morning between 07:00-09:00.

Abstract

Information on the biometric characteristics, egg morphology, and habitat of O. javanicus are very important for its use as model fish in the laboratory, ornamental fish, and environmental bioindicators. Therefore, research is needed to analyze the biometric character, egg morphology, and habitat of ricefish O. javanicus in the brackish water pond of Banten Bay. This research was conducted non-eperimentally by observing biometric characters to examine meristic, morphometric, and sex dimorphism characteristics. Observations of egg morphology were macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Habitat characteristics were observed by measuring water quality in situ. The results showed that O. javanicus from Linduk had meristic characteristics D.6–7; A.21–22; P.9-10; V.5–6 and sex dimorphism in the shape and size of the dorsal and anal fins. Blue metallic color pattern on the head and yellow color on the fins are potentially ornamental fish. O. javanicus eggs have a diameter of 1.08 ± 0.02 mm, are equipped with attaching filaments and non-attaching. The non-attaching filaments are 0.14 ± 0.03 mm in length. The percentage of yolk area was 73.7 ± 4.85%, and the oil droplet area was 8.3 ± 0.54% of O. javanicus at the gastrula stage with egg yolk volume 0.349 ± 0.048 mm3. Water quality in this study is a reference for rearing O. javanicus in the laboratory.
