Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of profitability, operating leverage, and liquidity on firm value, which using capital structure as an intervening variable. The population of this study is manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2011, with 56 sample selected by using purposive sampling. The results of data analysis can be concluded that the profitability proxied by return on Assets (ROA), has relationship with firm value as a dependen variable and capital structure as an intervening variabel. Operating leverage proxied by degree of operating leverage (DOL) has relationship with firm value as a dependen variable and capital structure as an intervening variabel, but liquidity proxied by current ratio (CR) has no relationship with firm value as a dependen variable and capital structure as an intervening variable. This study found that there is no influence of profitability, operating leverage, and liquidity on firm value through capital structure as an intervening variable.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of added betel leaves towards fat oxidation on smoked seasoned catfish fillets during storage. This study consisted of seven treatments, there were control (without added of spices, liquid smoke, and betel leaves powder), the added spices, liquid smoke, and also the combination of added spices, liquid smoke, betel leaves powder at various concentration of betel leaves powder (0.05, 1, 5, and 10%). The spices and soy sauce were dissolved in water and used to dissolve betel leaves powder. The order of smoked seasoned catfish fillets were soaked in a spice solution and betel leaves powder for 2 hours and then drained for 5 hours at 5 °C, and dipped in liquid smoke 10% (v/v) for 1 minute, then cooked in oven at 75 °C for 6 hours, cooled and packed (0.8 mm polypropylene plastic). The result showed that the betel leaves powder and spices interacted synergistically to inhibit fat oxidation and increased shelf life of smoked seasoned catfish fillets until the six days of storage. Added betel leaves powder could inhibit fat oxidation, peroxide value content varied 12.16 to 14.14 mgeq/1000 g, lower than control (13.53 to 14.09 mgeq/1000 g). Added 1% betel leaves powder was the most preferred smoked seasoned catfish fillets by consumers test, however it induced darker color, harder texture, and could covered up the smell of smoked on product. Keywords: shelf life, betel leaves, smoked seasoned catfish fillets, oxidation

Abstract

Previous studies showed that breastfeeding initiation was late in babies born with sectio caesarea compared to those with vaginal delivery and prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding practice was low in the former group. There was no breastfeeding initiation in the first day of post sectio caesarea. The objective of this study was to define factors correlated to low breast feeding practice initiation on post sectio caesarea mother, including the role of health workers in a hospital in Surabaya. 72 post sectio caesarea mothers were observed and interviewed on 1-30 June 2012 to find the factors correlated with breastfeeding practice. The results showed that although all the mothers already had a good knowledge about breastfeeding, and 26.4% of them had previous experience in breastfeeding, only 6.9% and 29.2% of total breastfeeding is started on the first and second post sectio caesarea respectively. Support for breastfeeding practice from health workers was low, and there were significant correlation between the support and rooming conditions with breastfeeding practices (p = 0.001). We concluded that low level of breastfeeding practice on mother with sectio caesarea correlated with low support of health professional and with the delay of room-in practice.

Abstract

The addition of spirulina platensis to fish feed can increase fish growth and fish immunity. This research was conducted using a completely randomized design method with three treatments and three replications. Treatment A (control), Treatment B (addition 6g of Spirulina platensis/1kg of feed), Treatment C (addition 12g of Spirulina platensis/1kg of feed). The results showed that treatment C had better results than other treatments, where the daily growth rate was 3.29%, the feed efficiency was 58.96%, and the survival rate was 100%. This study showed that the addition of 12g of Spirulina platensis was able to increase survival growth rate and feed efficiency of catfish for 30 days of rearing, this addition was still possible to increase the dose of spirulina to the most appropriate dose, considering that the addition of the difference with treatment B gave significant results.
