Abstract

The research conducted in order to know farmer perception on goat reproduction in North Lombok District. Farmer groupswereselected by purposive random sampling. Each group represented by 10 respondents. Collected data then tabulated and quantified, interpreted and presented descriptively. The initial populations in the past 5.6 years were 243 (50 males and 193 females), currently remaining458 (340 females and 118 males) excluding those weresold. 80% of respondents know the age of doe’s at the first mating and 88.8% know oestrus signs. 67% of respondents did not know post kidding open days. 100% doe's were naturally mated. 50% respondents stated mating frequenciesfor optimum fertility rate was 1-2 times, 12% said 3-4 times and the remaining 38% did not know. Only 56.7% of respondents knew doe’slength ofpregnancy. Doe’s with twins of two or morekidding were 59.3% and single kid was 40.70%. Almost 100% of respondents know genetically superior bucks. In conclusion, on one hand the perception of respondent's on goat reproduction is relatively low, but on the other hand the goat production was relatively high. To accelerate the increase in productivity of goats in North Lombok Regency, was recommended that local goats are crossed with superior goats such as Ettawa goats or Boer goats

Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the pre-weaning production prospectus kids of PE crossed with Boer buck. Twenty PE does were in the average 39.35 kg body weight and 3 in body condition score. Does were offered single feed sesbandia glandiflora leaves twice a day. All does were synchronized by 2 ml Capriglandin, inseminate fix time at 48-52 hours following Capriglandin injection. If the does were return to estrus following AI, then they were allowed natural mating. Data collected included gestation period, birth weight and average daily gain (ADG), tabulated and calculated for Mean±SD, interpreted and explained descriptively. The number of kid were 34 consisting of 6 singles male (SM), 12 single female (SF), 8 male twin (MT), 2 female twins (FT) and 6 male-female twins (MFT). Gestation period (days) were 152±0.47 and 152±2.00 for SM and MT. Shorten gestation period were noted for SF, FT and MFT (149±3.82; 150±3.94 and 147±2.94, respectively). The highest birth weight (kg) was SM (4.27±0.29) followed by SF (3.52±0.27), MFT (2.97±0.44), FT (2.73±0.23) and MT (2.71±0.54). The highest ADG (gr/day) occurred at 0-30 days was in MT (201.33 g/d) and the lowest was in FT (137.33 g/d). Abstract

ABSTRAK                                                            Upaya pengembangbiakan sapi melalui penerapan inseminasi buatan (IB) dengan semen beku terbukti berhasil meningkatkan produktivitas sapi potong di Provinsi NTB. Namun tingkat adopsi teknologi IB oleh peternak sapi di Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat selama lebih dari 10 tahun masih rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh hubungan antara pengetahuan, sikap dan motivasi peternak sapi dalam adopsi teknologi IB. Penelitian ini adalah deskriptif korelatif dengan metode wawancara tatap muka, rancangan cross sectional dengan bantuan kuesioner terstruktur dari 84 responden. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan Spearman Rho. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 90,5% responden mengetahui manfaat teknologi IB dan hanya 8,4% responden yang tidak mengetahui manfaat teknologi IB. Sebanyak 60-70% responden mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan IB dan tanda-tanda estrus yang diketahui dari keluarnya lendir dari vulva, warna merah vagina dan sapi menjadi gelisah. Sekitar 70% responden tidak memahami waktu yang tepat untuk inseminasi serta peralatan yang digunakan untuk IB. Semua responden setuju dengan program IB, namun, tidak ingin memiliki keterampilan dalam melakukan IB. Disimpulkan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan, sikap dan motivasi responden secara umum cukup baik dalam upaya untuk mengadopsi teknologi IB dan ada hubungan positip dan signifikan (p<0,05) antara pengetahuan, sikap dan motivasi.Kata Kunci: adopsi, inseminasi buatan, peternak sapi, teknologi ABSTRACTImproving cattle productivity in NTB by breeding using AI technology has been successful. In West Sumbawa District AI has been used for over 10 years, however, the level of its adoption is still low. The study was conducted to obtain the relationships between knowledge, attitude, and motivation of cattle farmers in the adoption of AI technology. A survey approach was used in this study and a questionnaire was developed to gather the data. The sample size for cattle farmers was 84. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho. About ninety-five respondents apprehended the benefits of AI technology and only 8.4% did not know. Around 60-70% of respondents understood factors that affected the success of AI and recognized signs and characteristics of oestrus. About 70% of respondents did not understand the fixed time for insemination as well as the equipment used for AI. All respondents agreed with the AI program, however, they did not prefer to have skills in carrying out AI. In conclusion, the level of knowledge, attitude and motivation of respondents in general was quite good in the effort to adopt AI technology and there were positive and significant (p<0.05) relationships between knowledge, attitude, and motivations.Keywords: adoption, artificial insemination, cattle farmers, technology

Abstract

The topic of service was chosen based on the consideration that the goat population is relatively high but the goat species that is kept is a Kacangt goat with low productivity, so it needs to be crossed with a Boer goat. The purpose of the services were firstly, to explain the advantages and disadvantages of several types of goats and how to choose superior goat breeds. Secondly, to explain the advantages of Boer goats, characteristics of aestrus goats, methods of crossbreeding and how to evaluate pregnant and non-pregnant goats. The implementation method is the Innovative Approach which emphasizes the participatory approach of the training participants. The results of the evaluation found that the material presented was in accordance with the needs of the breeders at the service location, because so far most of the farmers kept Kacang goats. All the training participants considered that this training material was very useful for them so that the participants were very enthusiastic and interested in cross-breeding their goats with Boer goats. It was concluded that this training had succeeded in increasing the knowledge of farmers on how to select superior goats and how to cross Kacang goats with Boer goats. For follow-up, it is recommended that farmers could contact the inseminator at the nearest Puskeswan to get insemination services using frozen Boer goat semen.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat sudah dilaksanakan di desa Aik Mual kecamatan Praya kabupaten Lombok Tengah yang mellibatkan tiga kelompok peternak kambing yaitu “Harapan Makmur, kelompok Geger Girang dan kelompok Sejahtera Abadi”. Setiap kelompok diwakili oleh 15 orang. Populasi kambing PE diketiga kelompok tersebut kurang lebih 950 ekor yang terdiri dari berbagai tingkatan umur. Kegiatan PPM dilaksanakan dengan metode Innovative Approach yang menekankan pada pendekatan partisipatif. Evaluasi Keberhasilan pelaksanaan PPM dilakukan terhadap dua aspek yaitu respon peserta terhadap topik PPM yang diberikan dievaluasi berdasarkan antusiasme peserta selama penyuluhan yang tercermin dari keaktifan bertanya, diskusi dan tanya jawab. Kedua, evaluasi terhadap kesesuaian materi penyuluhan yang diberikan dengan kebutuhan peserta dievaluasi dengan mengajukan daftar pertanyaan dipandu oleh tim pelaksana. Hasil pelaksanaan, berdasarkan jumlah perserta yang bertanya yaitu 15 orang atau setiap kelompok diwakili oleh 5 orang anggota dapat katakan bahwa meteri PPM mendapat respon yang positipp dari peserta. Topik PPM sangat sesuai dengan keinginan dan kebutuhan peserta, dinyatakan oleh lebih dari 90% peserta. Disarankan, kegiatan PPM yang sudah dilaksanakan agar ditindak lanjuti dengan program pelayanan yaitu pelayanan sinkronisasi birahi dan sekaligus inseminasi kambing menggunakan pejantan unggul, kususnya semen beku kambing PE.

Abstract

Peningkatan mutu reproduksi pada kegiatan perternakan sapi perlu terus menerus digalakkan. Hal tersebut agar terciptanya efisiensi pada usaha produksi ternak sehingga menghasilkan keuntungan finansial yang lebih baik. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan mutu genetik pada ternak sapi melalui inseminasi buatan menggunakan tekhnologi sperma sexing. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui penyuluhan, ceramah dan diskusi. Peserta yang menjadi target pelaksanaan kegiatan adalah peternak sapi yang berkecimpung pada bidang tekhnologi reproduksi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini berjalan cukup baik. Respon dan antusiasme peserta penyuluhan dalam diskusi sangat baik. Penilaian sangat baik karena sambutan dari tokoh atau pemuka masyarakat untuk dapat merealisasikan pengetahuan tentang IB menggunakan sperma sexing pada ternaknya. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah terjadinya peningkatan pengetahuan dan pemahaman peserta tentang teknologi inseminasi buatan menggunakan metode sperma sexing pada ternak sapi. Penilaian ini berdasarkan respon peserta dan pemuka masyarakat, sehingga hal ini merupakan faktor pendukung keberhasilan pelaksanaan IB pada waktu yang akan datang.

Abstract

Breeding programs to promote the productivity of Indonesian local goats (i.e. Kacang Goats) in various regions have been carried out by cross-breeding with predominant breeds of meat goats in the world such as Boer Goats. Currently, considering that the various genotypes of the cross-bred goat (namely Boerka Goat) have been spread and farmed by various goat farms throughout the country, it is necessary to evaluate the increase in productivity achieved. This study aims to investigate the pre-weaning growth performance of Boerka (Boer x Kacang) Crossbred Kids at different genotypes and birth types. The study was carried out experimentally using 167 Boer x Kacang crossbred kids which was arranged in a Split-Plot Design covering 3 plots of kid genotype, namely: BK (50% Boer, 50% Kacang), BBK (75% Boer, 25% Kacang) , and KBK (25% Boer, 75% Kacang), each with 3 sub-plots of kid birth types, namely single born kid (CT), twin born kid (CK-2), and triplet born kid (CK-3), all including male and female kids. The response variable that measured on pre-weaning growth performance, was observed directly by measuring birth weight (BL), 90-day-old weaning weight (BS90), and daily body weight gain (PBBH) for pre-weaning period. The data is tabulated and analyzed using software “Genstat”. The results showed that BL, BS.90, and pre-weaning PBBH of Boer x Kacang crossbred kids were influenced by genotype (P<0.01) and birth type (P<0.05) of the kids, and differed (P<0.05) between males and females kid. Male kids showed BL, BS90, and Pre-Weaning PBBH 12.88, 9.20, and 9.24% higher than female kids, respectively. Based on the genotype and birth type of the kids, the highest pre-weaning growth performance was shown by single-born male BBK kids, with BL, BS.90 and Pre-Weaning PBBH 3.32±0.33, 13.06±3.46 and 0.114±0.020 kg, respectively.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTeknolgi inseminasi buatan (IB) dapat digunakan menyilangkan ternak jantan dan betina dengan posturtubuh berbeda menggunakan semen beku sapi-sapi jantan unggul eksotik. Minat masyarakat terhadapsapi hasil silangan sangat tinggi karena bobot badan sapi keturunan atau generasinya dapat mencapai600 kg pada umur dua tahun. Permasalahan, masyarakat peternak tidak banyak memahami dampaknegatif penggunaan semen sapi eksotik apabila dilakukan tanpa mengikuti persyaratan yang benar.Telah dilakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat tentang inseminasi menggunakan semen beku sapieksotik di Kecamatan Montong Gading, Kabupaten Lombok Timur. Tujuannya, memberikan informasi,pemahaman dan keterampilan kepada masyarakat tentang dampak negatif IB dengan semen beku sapieksotik. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode partisipatif melalui penyuluhan dan pembinaan singkatmeliputi pemilhan calon induk akseptor IB dan jenis pejantan yang sesuai, manajemen kebuntingan,penanganan kelahiran dan pasca kelahiran. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan menunjukkan, para peserta telahmemperoleh informasi pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang dampak penggunaan semen beku sapieksotik. Hal ini terpancar dari respon dan antusiasme peserta cukup besar, banyaknya pertanyaanmenarik tentang persyaratan calon induk akseptor IB, masalah birahi, memilih semen beku pejantanyang sesuai, manajemen kebuntingan, penanganan kelahiran dan pasca kelahiran. Hasil evalusimenunjukkan, faktor-faktor yang dinilai mendukung pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah banyaknyajumlah dan antusiasme peserta yang mengikuti penyuluhan dan diskusi. Faktor penghambat nyaris tidakada, kecuali situasi Pandemi Covid-19 yang sedikit membatasi interaksi antara tim pengabdian denganmasyarakat yang hadir. Simpulan, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini cukup baik dan berhasilkarena peserta menilainya sangat bagus dan memberi banyak manfaat.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze population development strategies and contract farming models with East Lombok regency West Nusa Tenggara province farmers. This research was focused on SAN-C which is very concerned with the development of Boer goats and employing the people of East Lombok.Methods: The study employed action research. Boer cross-goats data was obtained from the log book of SAN-C. Supporting data were obtained from in-depth interviews and FGDs with representatives of farmers, livestock traders, representatives of the East Lombok district government, and management representatives of SAN-C.Results: This study found that the previous contract farming model with the credit system was changed to a profit-sharing system based on the weight of the goat. That is the difference in the final weight minus the initial weight multiplied by the price per kilogram divided by two. One part is for partners, and the other part is for SAN-C. Thus, the income for farmers is close to the minimum standard wage for the district of East Lombok.Conclusion: By applying a new breeding strategy and contract farming models, the population of Boer cross increased sustainably. Similarly, the income of farmers will also increase. It is recommended that the new contract farming model can be applied to other farmers all over WNT. It was also recommended that both SAN-C and must make a selection, especially for F2 and F3 with the most superior phenotypes as stock breeders. Finally, excess feed production in the rainy season should be stored in the form of hay or silage to overcome the shortage of feed in the dry season.

Abstract

Cases of dystocia is impact on delaying uterine involution, post-partum estrus and the next mating. Research has been carried out about type of birth process and its effect on post-partum estrus post-artificial insemination (AI) of Bali cows in Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency. The aim was to determine the effect of the type of birth process on post-partum estrus of cows. The research used descriptive method with the material were 40 Bali cows in 4 (four) villages, namely Pengengat, Teruwai, Mertak and Bangket Parak. The research variables were the type of birth process and post-partum estrus, as well as supporting variables such as the age of cow, body condition score (BCS), body weight, type of bull semen and days open. The data were statistically analyzed including the mean, standard deviation and percentage, followed by t-test. The results showed that 52.25% of Bali cows in Pujut District gave birth normally and 47.5% suffer light dystocia with birth assistance. The mean age of cows with dystocia was 29.53 ± 5.72 months by the BCS of 2.53, compared to 31.62 ± 5.61 months by the BCS of 2.81 in normal birth. The mean weight was 319.00 ± 29.72 kg compared to 342.81 ± 49.36 kg. The mean days open was 199.13 days compared to 195.67 days and post-partum estrus was 122.00 days compared to 105.00 days. In conclusion, the onset of post-partum estrus and days open in Bali cows that suffer light dystocia with birth assistance is longer than normal birth.
