Abstract

In contrast to the previous centuries of the XX century, the century of young people with the spirit of coming out of stagnant thinking has indirectly stimulated the attention of scholars in studying interpretations and compiling works of interpretation with various methods, patterns and styles. Tafsir al-Azhar is one of the largest interpretations compiled by Hamka, Hajj Muhammad Karim Amrullah. This article attempts to critically examine whether there is an influence of time and place in the preparation of the Tafsir al-Azhar. For this reason, historical methods and critical analysis will be used to show the figure of Hamka and his interaction with the socio-culture of the Minang people in particular and Indonesia in general. At the same time, it is used to analyze the Tafsir al-Azhar with regard to the influence of the time and place in the work. The result is that Hamka in explaining the verses of the Qur'an sometimes takes wisdom from the customs of a society that signify the place and explain also from the period of development of political turmoil after Indonesian independence and the renewal of the thoughts of Islamic figures that signify time, furthermore,the place and time have exerted influence in compiling the Indonesian interpretation work "Tafsir al-Azhar."

Abstract

Lafadz A'yun and 'Uyun, in terms of context, are not only interpreted as eyes but have many meanings. Judging from the syllable, the two words come from the same syllable but have different sentence forms. This study aims to find out more clearly the use of the words A'yun and 'Uyun and more about the relationship between the two in the Qur'an. This study is using by library research methods with the technical search for data sources followed by data analysis using semantic theory, namely by examining symbols or signs that express meaning, and the relationship of meaning to one another, based on descriptions by collecting verses about A'yun and 'Uyun in the Qur'an. The conclusion of this research is. In the context, the meaning of A'yun word is eyes, God's care and pleasing. Whereas the meaning of 'Uyun' word is the purpose of springs in Heaven.

Abstract

 This study aims to expose al-Kindi's theory of creation and his repudiation of Aristotle's equivalent theory. The theory of creation was one of the philosophical problems that originated in the Greco-Aristotle philosophy. In this tradition, "creation" refers to making or changing something from something else. In other words, this universe was created from pre-existing matters, materials, and substratum. This viewpoint ran counter to Muslim beliefs, including al-Kindi. For al-Kindi, creation entails creating something from nothing. This universe did not exist before. God's qudrah determined its existence, and His iradah created it from nothing. To defend his position, al-Kindi used both philosophical and theological arguments. Like mutakallimun, al-Kindi's theological argument is built on the Qur'anic term "kun,” while his philosophical argument is based on the argument of limitations. This study is literature-based research using a descriptive critical analytical method. The data for this study were obtained from books, articles, and other written documents. The collected data is examined utilizing the critical analytical method. This research concludes that al-Kindi explained the concept of creation quite clearly, and succeeded in making an appropriate and directed critical response to Aristotle's theory of creation. Likewise, al-Kindi's idea of creation demonstrates his close position with theologians and separates himself from the Peripatetic philosophers after him, even though al-Kindi is famous as a Muslim philosopher.

Abstract

Tulisan ini menjelaskan studi filologi dalam dunia Islam dan Barat dalam menyelami sejarah dan membangun peradaban. Studi filologi merupakan studi terhadap teks tulisan kuno yang tertulis dalam naskah atau manuskrip untuk digali dan ditemukan beberapa informasi sejarah dan juga ilmu pengetahuan. Dalam proses aplikasinya studi filologi sangat berkaitan erat dengan kajian tekstologi dan kodikologi. Terdapat tiga proyek besar dalam dunia Islam yang melibatkan kerja-kerja filologi. Diantaranya adalah pada saat kodifikasi al-Qur’an, Hadith dan proses asimilasi ilmu pengetahuan dan sain dari peradaban-peradaban lain seperti Yunani, Persia, India dan Cina. Studi filologi di sini dimaksudkan untuk membuka sejarah dan kebudayaan di masa lampau. Sehingga sejarah dan kebudayaan tersebut mampu difahami dan diketahui oleh masyarakat sekarang dan diharapkan mampu menjadi contoh yang bisa dijadikan perumpamaan. Dengan perumpamaan tersebut selanjutnya dapat meniru dan memberi semangat untuk membangun peradaban.
