Abstract

Numerical study is presented concerning transient solidification for water freezing process. The ice can produces 25 kg of ice block product is used as model in this study. 2D-simpllified geometry of ice can is modeled with square and rectangular shape which have different aspect ratio (H/L) 1 and 0.62 respectively. Both of shapes is compared one to another based on heat transfer and duration of solidification. Boundary conditions use isothermal temperature walls. Three walls (top, bottom, and right) have the same temperature values are -8℃ and the left wall temperature value is 0℃. Second order implicit URANS equations were solved with laminar model in numerical calculation. Most of internal heat energy (latent and sensible) from the water released to the walls which have lower temperature than other wall for 15 hours cooling process. This condition makes temperature of the liquid water decrease and phase change occured. The rectangular shape perform better than the square shape in heat transfer of internal heat energy from the water to the walls shape. The top and bottom wall from rectangular shape have greater value of heat transfer because their area are larger than other walls. Solidification process of the water in the rectangular shape faster 7,03% than square which showed by growth of water solid fraction in time of 15 hours cooling process.

Abstract

Among all available renewable energy sources, solar energy is the most abundant one and is available in both direct as well as indirect forms. People have applied solar energy as energy alternative in various fields. One of the field that use solar energy is drying. Drying is one of the best methods to preserve product like fish. Fish drying is practice to preserve the fish for longer duration. Entrapment of thermal energy from solar radiation may be the best option for fish drying by using closed drying (greenhouse). This study aims to determine the effect of inlet velocity of air to the thermal performance of greenhouse in the no-load conditions by considering several environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and solar radiation. The half an hourly data for ambient temperature, outlet temperature, relative humidity of air, wind velocity, radiation intensity were taken inside and outside the greenhouse dryer. These data are used for the determination of thermal performance of active greenhouse dryer. From experimental results, it can be concluded that drying conditions with inlet velocity of air 0,8 m/s is more favorable than inlet velocity of air 1,6 m/s as obtained thermal efficiency of active greenhouse is higher.

Abstract

The price of feed is one of the biggest contributors to production costs in fish farming. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide knowledge and skills on manufacturing independently fish pellet machines for the the tilapia farmer community in Klawasi village. The training is carried out by providing theoretical material about independent feed and pellet machine design as well as the practice of assembling pellet machine components and operating to test the performance of the pellet machine. The training was held at the Politeknik Kelutan dan Perikanan Sorong and was attended by 10 participants from the tilapia farmer community. The result of the training output is the production of two fish pellet machines that are ready to operate. The results of the satisfaction survey showed that 80% of participants strongly agreed about the good implementation of the training activities.

Abstract

Handwashing tool is one of the facilities that must be provided by places of worship as an effort to implement health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This community service aims to provide knowledge and skills to worshipers in places of worship to make handwashing tools independently. Service activities are carried out by providing training on the manufacture of pedal-type handwashing tools so that they can be applied at the GKI Immanuel church and the Nurul Salam mosque, Supra Village, Sorong City. The theory and practice of making handwashing tools were given to training participants at the Manufacturing Workshop, Politeknik Kelautan dan Perikanan Sorong. Pre and post-tests are used to evaluate the implementation of the training. The number of correct answers to the pre and post-test questions given to participants increased from 12.86% to 82.86%.
