Abstract

Measurement of coping strategies is important to provide information on the tendency of coping strategies and to provide interventions based on the information obtained. This study aims to develop a scale of academic coping strategies based on three aspects according to Sullivan (2010), namely Approach, Avoidance, and Social Support, as well as presenting existing psychometric property information. Psychometric property analysis in this study includes reliability using Alfa Cronbach internal consistency, construct validity with confirmatory factor analysis, and validity criteria. The result, the scale of academic coping strategy has Alpha reliability coefficient of 0,808 for Approach dimension; 0,818 for dimension of Avoidance and 0,868 for Social Support dimension. From the result of confirmatory factor analysis with SEM, the proposed model consisting of three factors and the proposed model meets the fit criteria (GFI = 0,920, CFI = 0,923, RMSEA = 0,076). Criterion validity is also done, the results is  coping strategies Approach and Avoidance correlated significantly with variable depression, anxiety, and stress. Generaly, this scale has a satisfactory psychometric property, the development of this scale in the future regarding the methodological issues discussed in this paper. AbstrakPengukuran mengenai strategi koping (coping strategy) penting dilakukan guna memberikan informasi kecenderungan strategi koping yang diterapkan mahasiswa serta memberikan intervensi sesuai kebutuhan berdasarkan informasi yang didapat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyusun skala strategi koping akademik berdasarkan tiga aspek menurut Sullivan (2010) yaitu Approach, Avoidance, dan Social Support, serta menyajikan informasi properti psikometris yang ada. Analisis properti psikometri dalam penelitian ini meliputi reliabilitas dengan menggunakan pendekatan konsistensi internal Alfa Cronbach, validitas konstruk dengan analisis faktor konfirmatori, dan validitas kriteria. Hasilnya, skala strategi koping akademik memiliki koefisien reliabilitas Alpha sebesar 0,808 untuk dimensi Approach; 0,818 untuk dimensi Avoidance dan 0,868 untuk dimensi Social Support. Dari hasil analisis faktor konfirmatori dengan SEM, model yang diajukan yang terdiri dari tiga faktor dan model yang diajukan tersebut memenuhi kriteria fit (GFI = 0,920, CFI = 0,923, RMSEA = 0,076). Uji validitas kriteria juga dilakukan, hasilnya strategi koping Approach dan Avoidance berkorelasi signifikan dengan variabel depresi, kecemasan, dan stres. Secara umum, skala ini memiliki properti psikometris yang memuaskan, pengembangan skala ini di masa depan terkait isu metodologis dibahas dalam tulisan ini.

Abstract

The big five personality traits are the best acknowledged and most commonly used the model in psychology. Therefore, many personality scales are developed based on this personality model. IPIP-BFM-50 is one of the open-source scales measuring big five personalities that is widely used by world researchers. This study aimed to adapt IPIP-BFM-50 into Indonesian and evaluate its psychometric properties. The adaptation was done by following the guidelines of the International Test Commission (ITC). The result shows that IPIP-BFM-50 Indonesia has Aiken's V index ranging from 0.71 - 0.98. Alpha reliability with n = 502 ranges from 0.762 (agreeableness) to 0.862 (emotional stability). Factor analysis shows that the items are well-grouped according to their dimensions with loading factor ranging from 0.34 to 0.75 on the factors measured. Thus, IPIP-BFM-50 Indonesia has satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used to measure the Big five personality.

Abstract

In the subjective well-being (SWB) measurement model, there are three models used by researchers, namely one-factor model (unidimension), two-factors model, and three-factor model. This study aims to test the validity and reliability of the SWB measure and compare the measurement model of SWB with confirmatory factor analysis method. The total subjects used in this study were 1,003 people with an age range of 14 - 50 years. Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were used as SWB measurements. The results showed all dimensions have Alpha reliability above 0.80 with item-total correlation above 0.3. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that all items are well distributed to their  dimensions with a factor loading above 0.4. Thus the scale in this study has satisfactory validity and reliability. The comparison of three hypothetical model showed that the three-factor model has the best model fit compared to the other two models. This finding provides evidence that the three components in the SWB construct are separate and independent of each other.

Abstract

The psychological well-being (PWB) of working mothers has an important influence both for family well-being and work performance. The increasing number of working women, and the existence of various changes in work, require a new explanation of the predictors of working mothers’ PWB. The purpose of this study was to examine the model of personal and interpersonal factors related to the PWB of working mothers, as mediated by work-family balance (WFB). The hypothesis of this study was a theoretical model stating the influence of physical activities and transformational leadership on PWB, through WFB, in accordance with empirical data. The subjects of the study were 536 working mothers of children, coming from Muslim communities and working under the directions of supervisors. The data collection used the Psychological Well-Being Scale, the Work-Family Balance Scale, the Physical Activities Scale, and the Scale of Perception of Transformational Leadership. The data analysis used the Structural Equation Model (SEM). The research results showed that physical activities and transformational leadership proved to have an effect upon the PWB of working mothers, through WFB. Kesejahteraan psikologis (psychological well-being - PWB) ibu bekerja berpengaruh penting, baik untuk kesehatan keluarga dan kinerja dalam pekerjaan. Peningkatan jumlah ibu bekerja, beserta dengan perubahan dalam pekerjaan, memerlukan penjelasan baru atas prediktor kesejahteraan psikologis ibu bekerja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji model dari peran faktor personal dan interpersonal dalam kesejahteraan psikologis ibu bekerja, dimediasi oleh keseimbangan kerja-keluarga (work-family balance - WFB). Hipotesis penelitian ini adalah sebuah model teoretis yang menyatakan peran aktivitas fisik dan kepemimpinan transformasional mengenai kesejahteraan psikologis, melalui keseimbangan kerja-keluarga, berdasarkan data empiris. Subjek penelitian adalah 536 ibu bekerja yang sudah memiliki anak, dari komunitas Muslim, dan bekerja di bawah naungan supervisor. Pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan Skala Kesejahteraan Psikologis, Skala Keseimbangan Kerja-Keluarga, Skala Aktivitas Fisik, dan Skala Persepsi terhadap Kepemimpinan Transformasional. Data analisis menggunakan Model Persamaan Struktural (Structural Equation Model - SEM). Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa aktivitas fisik dan persepsi atas kepemimpinan transformasional berperan dalam kesejahteraan psikologis ibu bekerja, melalui keseimbangan kerja-keluarga. Abstract

Happiness has been proven to bring many positive impacts on human life. One theory from the perspective of Islamic Psychology that explains how individuals achieve authentic happiness is the Anchor theory. There are four kinds of individual’s Anchor, that is virtues, self, others and materials. The organization of these anchors determines happiness. This study aims to verify whether Anchor theory is able to predict individual happiness. Subjects in this study were 201 students with an age range of 18-20 years. Happiness is measured by two scales namely Satifaction with Life Scale (SWLS) and Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE), while Anchor structure is measured by Anchor Personality Inventory. Regression analysis is used to invesitigate whether the Anchor structure is able to predict happiness. The results of a single regression analysis showed that Anchor stability was not able to be a predictor of life satisfaction (F = 0.37; P 0.05) and affective balance (F = 2.83; p 0.05). However, the results of multiple regression analysis showed that materials, self, others, and virtues simultaneously act as predictors of life satisfaction (F = 3.06; R2 = 0.059; p 0.05) and affective balance (F = 7.84; R2 = 0.138; p 0.01). Anchor virtues are the most powerful predictors of life satisfaction and affective balance. The implications and suggestions for efforts to increase individual happiness will be discussed in this article.

Abstract

When access to information on the internet is expected to support the growth to adulthood, cyberbullying is instead becoming a threat to adolescents' psychological well-being. Parental mediation and self-esteem are considered as protective factors to youngsters from online risk. The present study examines whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between perceived parental mediation and cyberbullying. The study participants were 351 senior high school social students in Yogyakarta who are media and internet users. The data were collected using the Cyberbullying Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.784), Self-Esteem Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.766), and Perceived Parental Mediation Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.656). Analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) showed that the proposed model was reached the goodness-of-fit ( = 53.711; df = 18; p = 0.001; RMSEA = 0.075; GFI= 0.964; CFI= 0.923). This study concluded that self-esteem partially mediated parental mediation and cyberbullying, with an indirect effect = -0.047 (p = 0.024; p<0.05). Self-esteem as the cognitive-personality factor and optimal parental mediation as environmental factors were considered to prevent adolescent cyberbullying. Therefore, we would recommend practitioners of educational, social, and clinical psychology to take the opportunity to involve self-esteem and parental mediation factors in intervention program design.

Abstract

Abstrak. Penggunaan internet oleh masyarakat di Indonesia sudah sangat tinggi, dan sebagian besar digunakan untuk media sosial. Indonesia menempati peringkat kedua di dunia dalam hal perilaku berbagi semua hal di media sosial. Tingginya tingkat berbagi dari pengguna media sosial selalu dianggap sebagai ancaman karena dampak negatif yang ditimbulkan. Dampak negatif itu di antaranya adalah timbulnya kecanduan dan membuka kesempatan melakukan tindak kriminal. Namun demikian, apakah perilaku oversharing di media sosial ini hanya memiliki dampak negatif saja? Tulisan ini akan membahas mengapa orang melakukan oversharing di media sosial ditinjau dari perspektif psikologi. Peluang teoritis maupun praktis yang bisa dimanfaatkan dari fenomena perilaku oversharing di media sosial ini akan didiskusikan lebih lanjut dalam tulisan ini.Kata Kunci: media sosial, peluang, perilaku oversharing, psikologiOversharing Behavior in Social Media: A Threat or Opportunity?Abstract. The negative impacts of oversharing behavior are the emergence of addiction and the opportunity to commit a crime. Is the oversharing behavior in social media has only a negative impact? This paper, however, will discuss why people do oversharing in social media from the perspective of psychology. Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to find out whether big five personality traits can predict the participation in volunteering. A total of 420 participants consisting of 215 volunteers and 205 non-volunteers from various regions in Indonesia completed measures of the Big Five personality traits. The preliminary analysis using independent sample t-test found that the extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness of volunteer samples were significantly higher than non-volunteer samples. Binary logistic regression analysis then was used to examine whether each of big five personality traits was able to predict the participation to be volunteer. The logistic regression model was statistically significant, χ2 = 67,102, p < ,01. The model explained 19,7% (Nagelkerke R2) of the variance in volunteer participation and correctly classified 64% of cases. Increasing extraversion and conscientiousness was significantly associated with an increased likelihood of volunteer participation.
