Abstract

Hospitality is a relatively large energy user in the tourism sector. The application of renewable energy in this field will certainly save energy and contribute to reduce the effect of global warming. An interesting application to study is the use of solar energy for preparing hot water in hotel. This study is a literature study that explored research articles on solar water heater, especially used in hospitality, that have been published. Studies on solar energy have always increased over the past five years, 66.2% of which were in the field of solar thermal energy, where 11.2% of solar thermal energy researches were related to the use of solar energy for the process of heating water. For the research originating from Indonesia, the figures are 48.7% and 6.6% respectively. There is no research on the use of solar water heater in Indonesia. Research on tourism in Indonesia itself tends to decline. A simple example of simulation about solar water heating system using TRNSYS 18 simulation program was presented to motivate researchers in this field.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of salt (NaCl) in water cooling media with different levels of 10%, 16% and 25% against the hardness level of low carbon steel tested with Vickers after hardening in the hardening process and to determine the proportion of media which coolant produces the highest hardness from the use of water cooling media which is added to different levels of NaCl. The independent variable in this study is the amount of salt (NaCl) dissolved in water cooling media with different percentages, namely 10%, 16% and 25%. While the dependent variable is the value of the hardness of the material tested with Vickers. Hardness in the hardening process with water cooling media which added different salt (NaCl), 10%, 16% and 25% is 185.02 VHN, 229 VHN and 284 VHN. From the results of the study it was found that there was an effect of the salt content (NaCl) in the water cooling media on the level of hardness in the hardening process of low carbon steel. Higher level of salt will increase value of hardness. The highest hardness was achieved in cooling media with a concentration of 25% NaCl that is equal to 284 VHN followed by cooling media with a concentration of 16% NaCl of 229 VHN and the lowest was a cooling medium with a concentration of 10% NaCl of 185.02 VHN.

Abstract

A product that will be mass produced requires an initial prototype so that it can assess whether a product design meets the desired criteria and is ready to be mass produced. For the purposes of making the initial prototyping, one alternative is to use 3D printing. Prototyping is an early example of a concept as part of the product development process. Rapid Prototyping allows the visualization of a 3D (three-dimension) image into an original three-dimensional object that has a volume. In addition, rapid prototyping products can also be used to test certain parts. In the design process the 2017 Solidworks software and manufacturing process are used anet type 3D printer. In the manufacturing process many 3D Printer parameters must be regulated and very influential on the manufacturing results to be obtained, including the 3D printer parameter settings in the slicing process. This is a process that is very influential on the results, where the process of slicing the material temperature, printing speed, wall thickness, layer thickness and support must be set properly. In the future it is expected that research on 3D printing manufacturing results with the same printer parameters for the design results of some CAD software.

Abstract

3D printing technology has great potential in today's manufacturing world, one of its uses is in making miniatures or prototypes of a product such as a piston. One of the most famous and inexpensive 3D printing (additive manufacturing) technologies is Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), the principle FDM works by thermoplastic extrusion through a hot nozzle at melting temperature then the product is made layer by layer. The two most commonly used materials are ABS and PLA so it is very important to know the accuracy of product dimensions. FDM 3D Printing Technology is able to make duplicate products accurately using PLA material. FDM machines work by printing parts that have been designed by computer-aided design (CAD) and then exported in the form of STL or .stl files and uploaded to the slicer program to govern the printing press according to the design. Using Anet A8 brand 3D printing tools that are available to the public, Slicing of general CAD geometry files such as autocad and solidwork is the basis for making this object. This software is very important to facilitate the design process to be printed. Some examples of software that can be downloaded and used free of charge such as Repetier-Host and Cura. by changing the parameters in the slicer software is very influential in the 3D printing manufacturing process.

Abstract

The success of the welding process is the occurrence of good and strong welding joints that are inseparable from the influence of the heat source. The problem that often occurs when welding is a distortion that can trigger the initial formation of cracks. By predicting the level of welding distortion beforehand, engineers can also reduce the amount of rework by reverse design and distortion margins. That is why with current technological developments it is possible to carry out simulations based on analytical solutions that are implemented through the use of software, where in this study the authors sought to model the temperature of the HAZ region in the Butt Joint process using MSC Marc Mentat. The simulation results show that the heat source is very determining the occurrence of distortion and pressure on the surface. This is caused by the phenomenon of melting and shrinkage that occurs in a short time.

Abstract

Composites are materials which are mixed with one or more different and heterogeneous reinforcement. Matrix materials can generally be polymers, ceramics and metals. The matrix in the composite serves to distribute the load into all reinforcing material. Matrix properties are usually ductile. The reinforcing material in the composite has the role of holding the load received by the composite material. The nature of the reinforcing material is usually rigid and tough. Strengthening materials commonly used so far are carbon fiber, glass fiber, ceramics. The use of natural fibers as a type of fiber that has advantages began to be applied as a reinforcing material in polymer composites. This study seeks to see the effect of the use of bamboo natural fibers in polyester resin matrix on the strength of polymer composites with random and straight lengthwise fiber variations. From the tensile test results it can be seen that bamboo fibers can increase the strength of polymer composites made from polyester resin and the position of the longitudinal fibers gives a significantly more strength increase than random fibers.

Abstract

Energy storage such as vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB) has increased to store renewable energy resources in the last decade. However, the unbalanced crossover level of vanadium is often a major constraint which has a significant impact on battery capacity and life cycle in long-term operation. Performing an asymmetric electrolyte volume is one of many ways to solve this problem. The different volumes on the positive and negative sides were analyzed to see their effect in suppressing the decrease in VRFB capacity. With the result of the optimal electrolyte excess ratio, long-term cycle performance was carried out to investigate the reduction in capacity of VRFBs.

Abstract

The use of solar energy in Indonesia is the right choice as an alternative energy for energy needs in industry or to meet daily energy needs in households. To utilize solar energy for cooking purposes, a solar cooker can be used. Factors that affect the performance of this solar cooker in addition to the length of time it shines and the intensity of thermal radiation from the sun are the reflexivity of the collector material, the surface area of the collector, the geometric shape and location of the focal point of the collector, the normal direction of the collector surface to the incoming sunlight, and the amount of heat loss to the surroundings. The materials used as reflectors in the research on this solar cooker are zinc (aluminum and galvanized) AL-Zn and black paint back ground mirror glass. This material is re-glued on top of a ready-made parabolic dish from the market. Then look for the focal point that corresponds to the diameter of the parabola. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the back ground mirror glass material with black paint is better to use than the AL-Zn zinc plate if it is used as a raw material for the surface material (reflector) of solar cooker. Likewise, the efficiency of the solar oven in terms of the amount of heat that is converted into energy for heating the pot is better for a solar oven than a reflector with black paint back ground mirror glass material. And the efficiency of the solar cooker from the black paint back ground mirror on the first day is 16.4% to 25.7% on the second day, while the efficiency of the solar cooker from the AL-Zn zinc plate on the first day is 16.4% to second day 22.8%. The emissivity of the solar stove with AL-Zn zinc plate reflector on the first day was 0.02906 and on the second day 0.02892, while the emissivity of the solar cooker with black paint back ground mirror reflector on the first day was 0.01812 and the second day was 0 0.02544.
