Abstract

This research is aimed as follows: To get empirical data and analyze the effects of vocabulary mastery and logical thinking towards students’ listening skills at Junior High School in East Cirebon. This research is done by Kolmogorov-Smirnov method, ANOVA Table, Proportional Correct for testing the item difficulties, by a biserial coefficient, and by Kuder Richarsson testing. The research was held at Junior High School in East Cirebon. Data collective done by giving a test for listening skill (yes/no or true-false / 37 items), test for vocabulary mastery (Multiple choice/ 20 items), and test for logical thinking (multiple choice/20 items) given to the class at, SMP N 1 Ciledug, SMP N 1 Pabedilan, and SMP N 1 Losari. The result of the study identifies the effect of Vocabulary Mastery on Student’s Listening skills (coefficient of 0,745 and coefficient determination of 55,4%). The effect of logical thinking towards student’s listening skill (Sig = 0.031 and ttest = 2,183; while ttable = 1,98. There is an effect of vocabulary mastery and logical thinking on students’ listening skills (Sig = 0.000 and ttest = 4,757 while ttable = 1,98.).

Abstract

This study scrutinizes the phenomenon of misperception on adult EFL learners at STBA Technocrat. It aims to comprehend the sounds which are frequently misperceived as well as the types of misperception experienced by ten EFL learners in apprehending sound-alike words. This study is descriptive qualitative research that involves ten EFL learners majoring on English literature in semester six. The results show that EFL learners frequently misperceived vowels than consonants. Almost all of the participants experienced the three types of misperception, namely, deafness, mirage, and mutation, except for the one participant who did not experience mirage. The data show that there are several things that are able to influence participants’ perception. The first is the phonetics features of English speech sounds. According to the data, the writers discover that the participants experienced the misperception more towards sounds which have similarities on its phonetics features. The second is the phonological systems between English and Indonesian. The discoveries significantly show that the participants feel confused and are not familiar enough with the sounds that do not exist in their native language. The third is the inserted information. The more information is inserted, the less misperception will occur. The last is the participants’ grades of listening subjects (I-III). However, those grades could not be a benchmark of their ability of speech perception.

Abstract

Motivation is an important factor in learning English. Students who have motivation will give more attention to learning. This research was to find out the students’ motivation toward reading skills. Data were obtained by questionnaire and test. The writer distributes the questionnaire to 60 students in the 10th grade of SMK NUSANTARA Beber-Cirebon. Instruments of validity and reliability are carried out by SPSS 25.0 for Windows. The writer made a hypothesis to answer the research problem. This research revealed that the tobservedis more than ttable (11.806> 2.00172).The probability value (p) is also less than 0.05 (p= 0.000 < 0.05). It can be proved with the result of the hypothesis testing, which is tobserved is more than ttable. The probability value (p) is also fewer than0.05 (p= 0.000 < 0.05). The finding of this research helps the English teacher of SMK NUSANTARA Beber-Cirebon to decide on the right teaching strategies to teach English. Therefore, it can maintain students’ motivation and improve students’ reading skills and achievement in learning English

Abstract

Evaluasi di dalam dunia pendidikan disebut sebagai Evaluasi Pembelajaran, dimana tenaga pendidik di tuntut untuk melakukan Evaluasi terhadap pembelajaran yang mereka berikan kepada peserta didik. Meskipun Evaluasi pembelajaran biasanya dilakukan di akhir pembelajaran, namun Evaluasi di rancang sedemikian rupa dan disiapkan sebelum pembelajaran dilakukan. Berdasarkan hasil data penelitian, dapat disimpulkan alat evaluasi menggunakan platform wordwall.net untuk siswa kelas II sekolah dasar sebagai berikut: (1) kualitas kevalidan alat evaluasi menggunakan platform wordwall.net dengan persentase kevalidan media 88.75% dan kevalidan materi 90%, sehingga memenuhi kriteria “sangat valid” (2) kualitas kepraktisan media ditunjukkan melalui persentase angket respon siswa sebesar 89% dan persentase angket respon guru sebesar 100%, sehingga memenuhi kriteria “sangat praktis”.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the reading habits of students of the English Education Study Program of IPB Cirebon and to find out several factors that influence the habits of students of IPB Cirebon. This study uses a qualitative method using an ethnographic approach. The Source of data is taken by purposive sampling or sample purpose. Data were collected using in-depth interviews, active participant observation, and questionnaires. Data accuracy was validated by data triangulation, method triangulation, and member check. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results of this study describe reading habits in six indicators, reading frequency, type of reading, number of readings, visiting the library, the purpose of reading, and awareness of the importance of reading. Indicators of reading frequency, type, and amount of reading still need to be developed because students still depend on assignments or academic activities given by lecturers. Indicators of student reading habits that need further development are related to the discipline of using time and ownership of periodic readings in newspapers, magazines, scientific magazines, or journals. The need for information is obtained from social media but not regularly and periodically. Access to information is done depending on the mood or mood. Therefore, there are three important points: family, education, and internet use. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap: 1) kemampuan berpikir kritis, 2) keaktifan belajar, 3) kemampuan berpikir kritis, 4) mengetahui sejauh mana pengaruh model pembelajaran konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap masing-masing aspek kemampuan berpikir kritis, 5) mengetahui sejauh mana pengaruh model pembelajaran konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap masing-masing aspek keaktifan belajar siswa, dan 6) efektivitas model pembelajaran konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Metode yang digunakan adalah Quasi-Eksperimental dengan desain penelitian Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X sebanyak 143 siswa dan sampel yang digunakan adalah kelas X-4 (kelas eksperimen) sebanyak 36 siswa dan X -5 (kelas kontrol) sebanyak 36 siswa. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling. Pengambilan data kemampuan berpikir kritis menggunakan tes dan motivasi dengan angket. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji Manova (signifikansi 0,05) untuk mengetahui pengaruh, selanjutnya dilakukan uji Regresi untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pengaruh model pembelajaran konstruktivisme tipe novick terhadap aspek-aspek kemampuan berpikir kritis dan keaktifan belajar siswa, serta uji N-Gain untuk mengetahui efektivitas model konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh model konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap: 1) kemampuan berpikir kritis, 2) keaktifan belajar, 3) kemampuan berpikir kritis dan keaktifan belajar, 4) ada pengaruh yang tidak sama pada model konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap aspek-aspek kemampuan berpikir kritis, 5) ada pengaruh yang tidak sama pada model konstruktivisme tipe Novick terhadap aspek-aspek keaktifan belajar.

Abstract

Various kinds of problems are often experienced by each individual or society which will have an impact on the human person itself even to the surrounding community, one of these problems is a moral problem. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain: (1) the form of moral values in the novel Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata; (2) the views of the author and readers of the novel Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata; (3) utilization as a literature teaching material in high school. This research is a qualitative descriptive research with content analysis method. The data source in this study is the text or content in the novel Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata. Data collection techniques are reading, taking notes and interviews. The validity of the data in this study is source triangulation and method triangulation. The results of this study can be concluded as follows: (1) the form of moral values in the novel Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata, namely (a) the relationship between humans and oneself which includes: honesty, patience, responsibility, sincerity, firmness, courage, and low self-esteem. heart; (b) human relationships with other humans which include: caring for others, helping each other, sharing, caring, encouraging and motivating, working together, being grateful; (c) human relationship with God which includes: gratitude to God, obedient worship, belief in God; (b) human relationships with other humans which include: caring for others, helping each other, sharing, caring, encouraging and motivating, working together, being grateful; (c) human relationship with God which includes: gratitude to God, obedient worship, belief in God; (b) human relationships with other humans which include: caring for others, helping each other, sharing, caring, encouraging and motivating, working together, being grateful; (c) human relationship with God which includes: gratitude to God, obedient worship, belief in God;

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa besar 1) Pengaruh kebiasaan membaca dan gaya belajar siswa terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon, 2) Pengaruh kebiasaan membaca terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon, dan 3) Pengaruh gaya belajar siswa terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survey. Sampel berukuran 90 siswa yang dipilih secara random dari seluruh siswa kelas X, XI, dan XII di SMA tersebut . Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Agustus 2019 sampai November 2019. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes, penyebaran angket, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan melalui metode regresi sederhana dan regresi ganda. Uji statistik dipergunakan uji t dan uji F. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan kebiasaan membaca dan gaya belajar secara bersama-sama terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig. 0,000 < 0,05 dan Fhitung 16,147 > Ftabel 3.10. 2) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan kebiasaan membaca dan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig.0,019 < 0,05 dan thitung 2,394 > ttabel 1.98. 3) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan gaya belajar siswa terhadap kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris di SMA Santa Maria Cirebon. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig. 0,000 < 0,05 dan thitung 5,068 > ttabel 1.98

Abstract

Mastering vocabulary is one of the important factor in learning English. In general, EFL Young Learners interpret vocabulary as a matter of words and also related to meaning and dictionary. The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out whether or not the use of PPP approach can improve the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade learners at SD Pasalakan 2 Sumber Cirebon; and (2) to describe the class situation when PPP approach is implemented in teaching vocabulary. The study was carried out by using qualitative and quantitative method. The data collected using various techniques in qualitative method obtain from questionnaire, interview, classroom observation, and field note. While technique of collecting data using quantitative method was obtained from vocabulary test that consist of pre-test and post-test. Then in analyzing the qualitative data, the writer uses analyzing action research, while quantitative data are analyzed by using descriptive statistics method. The improvement of EFL young learners’ vocabulary mastery included: (1) pronouncing words correctly; (2) spelling the words correctly; (3) understanding the meaning of words; (4) making simple English sentences correctly. Related to the improvement in the classroom situation, EFL young learners are more enthusiastic and more interested in learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the translation techniques of subtitling used on The Kissing Booth movie. This research uses qualitative method. The content analysis is used as a method to identify and analyze the translation techniques in The Kissing Booth movie. Every utterance in five scenes of The Kissing Booth movie are the unit of analysis of this research. The source language is English and the target language is Indonesian Language. The result proves that the translation technique that mostly appears on The Kissing Booth movie (2018) is reduction with eight data (26.67%). The second highest is discursive creation and transposition. Both of them have six data (20.00%). In the third position there is compensation with a total of five data (16,67%). Next, there are linguistic amplification and borrowing. The results show that both of them have two data (6,67%). The last one is literal translation with only one data (3,33%).
