Abstract

Communicative speaking skill is considered the most essential skill for everyday situations and for a wide range of professions especially in the economic and business sector. The purpose of this research is to improve students speaking skill of UKI Paulus Makassar through the implementation English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) namely (1) planning, (2) actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. For the purpose of the topic, 35 students were selected as the subject. Research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with Kemmis and Taggart model. It was conducted for about two cycles namely cycle I and cycle II. According to the results of speaking test, findings showed that the implementation English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in teaching had positive meaningful effect on improving students’ speaking skill after being obtained test results both cycle 1 and cycle II in Economic and Business students of UKI Paulus Makassar

Abstract

This study aimed to improve students’ mastery of pronunciation through words spelling strategies in the fourth grade of SD Inpres Mappu in Mamuju. This research was a classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, namely, cycle one and cycle 2. Each cycle was carried out four times. There are four steps in  this research; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data in this study used quantitative (test) as the primary data and qualitative (field notes, recording, and documentation) as supporting data. The subjects in this study were 15 students in grade IV SD Inpres Mappu in Mamuju. The results showed that the use of the Words Spelling Strategy succeeded in improving the pronunciation master of the fourth-grade students of SD Inpres Mappu. It can be seen from the increased percentage of student learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II, with an average value of 83.6. Therefore, it can be conducted that using the Words Spelling Strategy can improve student learning outcomes in mastering pronunciation.

Abstract

The use of technology in learning English-speaking skills has grown rapidly. One such technology is the computer-aided learning media. The use of computer media in the field of education has many advantages as they are easier to access, disseminate and store. The aim of present study is to investigate the impact of computer assisted language learning (CALL) technology on Indonesian learners' speaking skills. This study applied quantitative research. The results of study found that the use of information technology in learning is marked by the interaction between students and materials through internet technology, the existence of programmed teaching, and flexibility in the process. learning both in terms of time and place.  It can be concluded that it is very possible for us to be easily literate through various media, with this we can improve the quality of speaking.

Abstract

Test of English Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Try-out training is one of Megarezky University's programs as a requirement for student graduation for the final completion of studies that must meet the graduation standards of Megarezky University students, requirements for continuing to a higher level of education, work entry requirements and even used in promotion. The target in this Community Service activity is students of the PHARMACIST Study Program, Faculty of Pharmacy, Megarezky University with a total of 9 students. This activity lasted for nine hours. The implementation of this training uses methods, lectures, try-outs, and audio-visuals.In the lecture method, the PKM team explained the theory of how to answer TOEFL questions in Listening, Structure, and Reading activities. The Try-out method of doing the TOEFL TEST is related to the material that has been presented in the training activities. The results of the try out can be seen the score score of the PHARMACIST students of Megarezky University directly, then return to provide a discussion of the test questions on each skill. This training provides an overview to UNIMERZ PHARMACIST students when completing the TOEFL test. So they can pass with a TOEFL score that matches the standard.
