Abstract

Electronic library is apart of the implementation of information and communication technology in libraries as mandated in Law No. 43 of 2007 and SNP 010: 2011. There are various obstacles in developing electronic library which are especially related to the power relations of actors. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the practice of power relations in the electronic libraries of universities in Bali so that the processes, forms, and implications of these power relations can be revealed. This study uses 17 (seventeen) library actors consisting of the Head of the Library, Vice Chancellor I, Librarians, Programmers, and Users spread over 5 (five) universities in Bali as informants who were interviewed semi-structured. This study uses Foucault's theory of power relations as a grand theory, and is supported by Derrida's theory of deconstruction and Gramsci's hegemony. The results showed that the practice of power relations in university libraries in Bali is mainly based on the actor's knowledge. This is in accordance with Foucault's perspective where knowledge can produce power in the electronic library. However, the practice is also based on the structural position of actors, so that power relations are not always balanced, but also in the form of domination, negotiation, and hegemony which are depicted in power frames. The practice has good implications for libraries, especially for users, librarians, programmers, and library collections, although in certain cases, power relations provide gaps between these actors. Keywords: electronic library, power relation, domination, deconstruction, and hegemony

Abstract

This research examines the habitus creation in the neighborhood of Al-Amin which is located at Banjar Sanglah, Denpasar City. This neighborhood evidently is able to actualize the inter-religious harmony since 1970 until now. In the related study, the concept of habitus from Pierre Bourdieu with formulation (Habitus x Capital) + Field = Practice was applied, while adopted the ethnography method. Through the conducted study, Bourdieu’s concept of habitus was able to explain the cognitive structure of various actors who play an essential role in the creation of the Al-Amin neighborhood, starting from the system of symbolic capital disposition, social capital, economic capital and cultural capital. Furthermore, the continuous harmony in the neighborhood of Al-Amin is due to its strong social and cultural capital. However, the harmony is inseparable from the framework between majority with minority, thus the character of social capital and especially the cultural capital in the neighborhood of Al-Amin tend to coopt other forms of capital.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the second highest prevalence after cervical cancer. In recent years cases of breast tumors that are at risk of becoming cancer are found in women aged 25 years and under. This risk will increase in adolescent girls who have a history of tumors, so there is a 4.37 times more risk of developing breast cancer. Similarly, young women who experience menarche (first menstruation) at the age of <12 years are more likely to develop breast cancer than those who experience menarche aged> 12 years. Busyness undergoing daily routine is also one of the causes of teenagers / young women paying less attention to the health of their breasts. Based on this there have been many campaigns and movements to foster women's awareness of breast cancer such as the BSE movement (Breast Self-Check) and SADANIS (aware of clinical examination). It is unfortunate that this campaign has not been able to touch all circles, especially among students who are very busy with campus life and do not have the awareness to take care of their health. This dedication activity is carried out to increase the awareness of students / young women to maintain breast health. Keywords: breast cancer, health, increase student awareness.

Abstract

Effective and efficient water resources management is unquestionably required to meet the high demand of water to support rapid population growth and socio-economic expansion. The water supply availability is slowly decreased due to plantation land clearing, construction projects, and land-change activities in the watershed area. This study aimed to analyze the sustainability of irrigation management in Bali and outside of Bali (Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi). Primary and secondary data were employed in this study. In-depth interview and focus group discussion sessions conducted to collect the primary data. The literature review technique applied to gather secondary data to support the study result and discussion. We recruited the committee of subak, farmers, and stakeholders or policymakers from the Local Board of Agriculture and Public Works and Public Housing (sub-irrigation division) to participate in this study. Multi-Dimensional Scaling method employed to analyze the study data. Results revealed that the sustainability prospective of the irrigation system management in Mongondow was relatively weak, especially on the physical-ecological, infrastructure-technology, and policy-institutional dimensions. However, we noticed that the economy and social dimension of the watershed area was relatively sustainable. Contrary situations were found on Saba Watershed in Buleleng Regency, Bali Province. We found that the sustainability prospective on the physical-ecological and infrastructure-technology dimension was relatively weak. But the dimension of the economy, socio-cultural, and policy-institutional was adequately sustainable.
