Abstract

Artikel ini berfokus pada sebuah penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat disiplin belajar siswa. Jenis penelitian tersebut adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian melibatkan siswa kelas IV SD Negeri 066050 Medan Denai. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan adanya pengaruh disiplin dengan hasil belajarnya dikelas IV SD Negeri 066050 Medan Denai. Instrument penelitian digunakan untuk mengukur disiplin belajar adalah angket yang terdiri dari 40 butir. Sedangkan untuk mengukur hasil belajar digunakan nilai matematika. Setelah dilakukan pengukuran terhadap disiplin belajar, didapat nilai mean (rata-rata) skor hasil angket sebesar 120,3. Hal ini berarti disiplin belajar di SD Negeri 066050 Medan Denai berada pada tingkat tinggi. Untuk mengetahui tingkat pengaruh antara disiplin belajar dengan hasil belajar, digunakan rumus korelasi dari pearson. Dari hasil perhitungan diperoleh rhitung sebanyak 0,609, yang berarti nilai korelasi kuat atau berkorelasi. Uji signifikasi dilakukan untuk menguji hipotesis, yaitu dengan membandingkan nilai thitung dengan ttabel. Diperoleh nilai thitung sebanyak 4,062 sedangkan ttabel sebanyak 2,042. Karena thitung ≥ ttabel (4,062 ≥ 2,042) maka Ha diterima da Ho ditolak. Melalui uji t tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan antara disiplin belajar siswa dengan hasil belajarnya.

Abstract

This research is of human courage and dignity in Ernest J. Gaines’s novel, A Lesson Before Dying. People are able to face threat, pain, danger, or even death in order to maintain their right and dignity relying on courage. This is library research and applies mimetic criticism proposed by Abrams saying that a work of literature is the imitation of the real world. It depicts human beings who struggle to maintain and get acknowledgement of their right and dignity to live respectfully and worthly. The analysis is focused on how courage and dignity have raised someone from desperation into brave and thoughtful to face his death. He is desperated because of a false accusision of being a murderer, compared as a hog, and sentenced to die in electric chair. Comparing to a hog makes him lost his courage and self-esteem. He alienates himself and does not want to speak to anybody, but his godmother disagrees so she begs a teacher to teach him that he is a human being and should die as a human being too. He is taught by a teacher of moral and obligation to face his death courageously and shows that he is a human being who has duty and responsibility. Finally, he is able to sacrifice his death as a symbol of his courage and dignity to himself, his family and community. It is found that the author Ernest J Gains vividly conveys human beings who have courage are able to maintain and get acknowledgement of their right and dignity although they have to face threat, pain, danger, or even death.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR) was primarily carried out to prove that the use of Stop saying very teaching strategy is effective to enhance the students’ vocabulary mastery on adjectives and to describe the students’ responses towards the learning teaching processes of adjectives through the application of Stop saying very teaching strategy. There are two cycles in this CAR in which each cycle consisted of three meetings excluded the pre-test, formative test, and post-test The research subjects of this CAR are the first semester students of the English Language Education, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas in the Academic Year of 2022/2023 consisting of 20 students. The analysis of quantitative data shows that the mean of the students’ score in the pre-test, formative test, and post-test increases continually after Stop saying very teaching strategy was implemented in teaching adjectives. The students’ total score in the pre-test is 216 and the pre-test mean is 10.8. The students’ total score in the formative test is 1.528 and the formative test mean is 76.4. The students’ total score in the post-test is 1.708 and the post-test mean is 85.4. The analysis of qualitative data shows that the students gave positive responses towards the learning teaching processes of adjectives through the application of Stop saying very teaching strategy. They all agree that the application of Stop saying very teaching strategy helps trigger their curiosity and enhance their knowledge and vocabulary mastery on adjectives. The writers recommend that English teachers/lecturers apply Stop saying very teaching strategy to teach better and more impressive adjectives to their students. Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berorientasi pada pelayanan masyarakat dan penerapan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni ini berlokasi di SilalahiNabolak Kecamatan SilahiSabungan Kabupaten Dairi. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama dua hari yaitu hari Sabtu – Minggu, 19–20 Desember 2020 pukul 14.00–18.00 WIB. Peserta pelatihan adalah anak-anak, remaja atau anak muda, dan orangtua. Model pelatihan adalah dengan membagi peserta kedalam tiga grup untuk dilatih mengucapkan, memahami, dan menyanyikan lagu-lagu berbahasa Inggris sesuai dengan usia dengan menggunakan media infocus. Lagu-lagu yang dilatih adalah Que Sera Sera, Old Macdonald, Beautiful Sunday, dan Close to Thee. Hari pertama masing-masing kelompok secara terpisah diajari pengucapan, kosa kata, dan lagu masing-masing dua jam per grup tetapi waktu disesuaikan sesuai kebutuhan. Hari kedua melaksanakan hal yang sama tetapi hanya selama tiga jam. Tiga jam selanjutnya dipergunakan untuk penampilan masing-masing grup di depan umum, kemudian bernyanyi bersama-sama lagu Que Sera Sera. Kegiatan tersebut sangat menyenangkan bagi semua grup, terutama bagi orangtua karena lagunya sederhana dan mudah diingat, sekaligus dapat mereka nyanyikan di gereja. Kegiatan ini menyenangkan dan memberikan manfaat berupa motivasi kepada masyarakat. Oleh sebab itu, mereka mengharapkan kegiatan lain yang berhubungan dengan bahasa Inggris dapat dilaksanakan oleh Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas, Fakultas Sastra, khususnya Program Studi Sastra Inggris, mengingat desa SilalahiNabolak merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi hubungan antara identitas budaya dan penggunaan bahasa di kalangan mahasiswa etnis Karo di Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas Medan. Dengan menggunakan desain penelitian kuantitatif, data dikumpulkan dari 30 mahasiswa Karo menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur. Temuan mengungkapkan korelasi yang kuat antara kemahiran dalam bahasa Karo dan penggunaannya dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Hanya 13,33% yang menilai kemahiran mereka sebagai "Sangat Baik," sementara 33,33% melaporkan menggunakan bahasa tersebut secara sering. Selain itu, 86,67% mahasiswa tidak merasa tertekan untuk menggunakan bahasa lain, memungkinkan penggunaan bahasa Karo secara alami dalam konteks yang sesuai. Bahasa Karo terutama digunakan dalam lingkungan keluarga dan komunitas, dengan 33,33% menggunakannya dengan keluarga dan teman, serta di rumah. Dukungan dari keluarga dan teman sangat penting untuk mempertahankan bahasa Karo, dengan 50% mengandalkan jaringan dukungan ini. Meskipun tantangan yang ditimbulkan oleh dominasi bahasa Indonesia, persepsi bahasa Karo sebagai bagian penting dari identitas budaya memotivasi upaya untuk mempertahankan penggunaannya. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya dukungan sosial dan institusional dalam menjaga warisan linguistik dan budaya di kalangan mahasiswa etnis minoritas.

Abstract

Abstract: This community service aims to explain how students at Anastasya Middle School understand the focus group discussion (FGD) method, and the extent to which this understanding influences their involvement in group discussion activities. This study applies design-based research (DBR), a systematic yet flexible research method that aims to improve educational practice through iterative analysis, design, development, and implementation of scientific collaboration in real action settings and has an impetus towards the development of context-based learning principles and theories. The results of observations of the students' abilities obtained an average of 89.00 with a completion percentage of 50%. So the students' ability level at this stage is categorized as good. The average score is 89.00 which is in the good category with a classical completion percentage reaching 50%. The results obtained indicate that the students' ability to implement a scientific approach is good. Through the opportunities given, each student, after identifying their own shortcomings and weaknesses, began to make improvements after conducting a focus group discussion. Keyword: Focus Group Discussion, speaking skill.Abstrak: Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana pemahaman siswa di SMP Anastasya terkait metode wawancara kelompok terfokus (FGD), dan sejauh mana pemahaman tersebut memengaruhi keterlibatan mereka dalam kegiatan diskusi kelompok. Penelitian ini menerapkan penelitian berbasis desain (DBR), sebuah metode penelitian sistematis namun fleksibel yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan praktik pendidikan melalui analisis berulang, desain, pengembangan, dan implementasi kolaborasi ilmiah dalam pengaturan tindakan nyata dan memiliki implikasi terhadap pengembangan prinsip dan teori pembelajaran berbasis konteks. Hasil observasi kemampuan para siswa memperoleh rata-rata 89.00 dengan persentase ketuntasan 50%. Maka tingkat kemampuan para siswa pada tahap ini terkategori baik. Nilai rata-rata 89,00 yang berada para kategori baik dengan persentase ketuntasan secara klasikal mencapai 50%. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan para siswa dalam mengimplementasikan pendekatan saintifik sudah baik. Melalui kesempatan yang diberikan, setiap siswa setelah melakukan identifikasi kekurangan dan kelemahan masing masing, mulai melakukan perbaikan setelah dilakukan focus group discussion. Kata kunci: Focus Group Discussion, Kemampuan Berbicara.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of the Community Service carried out through this training is to increase community awareness about the importance of good hospitality services, and the community's English language skills, especially hotel and homestay business activists, as well as to improve the community's standard of living through tourism. The implementation of this training uses the dialogue method in direct conversation and practice regarding the daily activities of village residents, local food and culture, as well as tourist attractions. The training participants were fathers, mothers, teenagers, youth groups and school children around Huta Raja Village who were very enthusiastic about taking part in the training and were not used to communicating in English due to environmental factors where English was very minimal. There has never been a similar activity provided to the people of Huta Raja Village. By holding this activity, the people of Huta Raja Village gained a lot of knowledge, such as learning to be more responsible for themselves, learning to become more independent in solving problems to create prosperity for the community. Keyword: hospitality; tourism improvement; and communication culture Abstrak: Tujuan dari Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat  yang dilakukan melalui pelatihan ini adalah meningkatkan kepedulian masyarakat tentang pentingnya pelayanan hospitality yang baik, dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris masyarakat khususnya para pegiat bisnis hotel dan homestay, serta  untuk meningkatkan taraf hidup masyarat melalui pariwisata. Pelaksanaan pelatihan ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode dialog dalam direct conversation and practice tentang aktivitas sehari-hari warga desa, makanan dan budaya local, serta tempat-tempat wisata. Peserta pelatihan adalah kaum bapak, ibu, remaja, karang taruna, dan anak sekolah sekitar Desa Huta Raja yang begitu semangat mengikuti pelatihan yang belum terbiasa berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris karena faktor lingkungan yang sangat minim menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Belum pernah ada kegiatan serupa yang berikan kepada masyarakat Desa Huta Raja. Dengan diadakannya kegiatan ini, masyarakat Desa Huta Raja memperoleh banyak ilmu seperti belajar agar dapat lebih bertanggung jawab lagi pada dirinya, belajar menjadi diri yang lebih mandiri dalam memecahkan suatu permasalahan untuk menciptakan kesejahteraan bagi masyarakat. Kata kunci: keramahan; peningkatan pariwisata; dan budaya komunikasi
