Abstract

Pada bulan Desember, ada 2 hari penting yang banyak orang tidak mengetahui, bahkan seringkali dilupakan. Tanggal 15 Desember ditetapkan sebagai Hari Cinta Puspa dan Satwa Nasional, sedangkan tanggal 29 Desember adalah hari Keanekaragaman Hayati. Puspa dan satwa adalah bagian dari keanekaragaman hayati. Dengan demikian kedua peristiwa tersebut tidak bisa dipisahkan, justru saling berkaitan dan saling menguatkan.

Abstract

Diabetes melitus atau kencing manis adalah suatu gangguan kronis yang menyangkut metabolisme glukosa, lemak, dan protein akibat kekurangan hormon insulin yang berfungsi mengatur penggunaan/pemanfaatan glukosa sebagai sumber energi. Diabetes muncul karena kekurangan insulin atau kegagalan aktivitas insulin, atau kombinasi keduanya. Hal ini akan berakibat tertimbunnya glukosa dalam darah dan akan diekskresikan lewat urin tanpa dimanfaatkan. Diabetes merupakan kelainan patofisiologik yang dapat dihubungkan dengan salah satu efek utama akibat kurangnya insulin, yaitu: (1) Berkurangnya pemakaian glukosa oleh sel-sel tubuh yang mengakibatkan naiknya konsentrasi glukosa darah sampai lebih dari batas normal, (2) Meningkatnya mobilisasi lemak dari daerah penyimpanan lemak, sehingga menyebabkan terjadinya metabolisme lemak yang abnormal disertai deposisi lemak pada dinding pembuluh darah dan mengakibatkan timbulnya gejala aterosklerosis, (3)Terurainya protein dari jaringan tubuh.

Abstract

Rosela is one of medicinal herbs. The aim of the study was to find out the hypoglycemic effect of oral intake of Rosela extract on diabetic white rat. This research apllied Complete Randomized Design of four groups with five replications to each. The treatment for those groups was: no treatment, insulin 5 unit/kg body weight, 250 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract, and 500 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract. The parameters used were fasting blood glucose concentration and blood glucose concentrations at the 60th and 120th minutes. The result showed that the extract of Rosela decreased blood glucose concentration. The treatment with Rosela extract 250 mg decreased blood glucose concentrations as much as 24,32%, while  that with Rosela extract 500 mg decreased blood glucose concentration as much as 32,44%.

Abstract

Rosela is one of medicinal herbs. Rosela contents phytochemicals such as: gossypetine, hibiscin, flavonoid phenol, anthocyanin. The aim of the study was to find out the effect of oral intake of Rosela extract on triglyceride concentration of diabetic white rat. This research applied Experimental Method which concists of four groups with five replications to each. The treatment for each of those groups was: (1) normal rat without treatment, (2) diabetic rat without treatment of Rosela extract, (3) diabetic rat treated 250 mg/kg body weight of   Rosela extract, (4) diabetic rat   treated   500 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract. The parameters used were triglyceride concentration. The result showed that the extract of Rosela reduced triglyceride concentration.

Abstract

Rosela is one of the medicinal plants, which contain active compounds of flavonoid. The research was conducted to  determine the antipyretic power of Rosela. This study is a laboratory experiment with mice as test animals. The mice were divided into 3 groups and 4 replications. Group I was the control, without treatment. Groups II and III applied Rosela extract, each of which was 250 mg/kg BW and 500 mg/kg BW. The fever of the mice was induced using DPT vaccine. Rectal temperature was measured every 3 hours for 24 hours.  The results revealed that Rosela extract possesses antipyretic ability.

Abstract

The treatment for those groups was: no treatment, metformin 9 mg/200 g body weight, 250 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract, and 500 mg/kg body weight of Rosela extract. The parameters used were cholesterol concentration before and after the treatment.The result showed that the extract of Rosela reduced cholesterol concentration.

Abstract

High level of fat in the body can cause various diseases. To reduce the fat content people made various attempts, for example, by having diet, doing regular excercise, or taking medicine. Plants are source of chemicals that are the basic ingredients of drugs. This research, therefore, was aimed to determine the effect of mangosteen peel juice on low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL). Materials used for the research were mangosteen peels and animals test. The experiment was conducted by using an experimental method consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. Group 1 had no treatment, group 2 was given quail egg yolk, group 3 was given quail egg yolks and 200 g mangosteen peel juice, group 4 was given quail egg yolk and mangosteen juice of 300 g  of mangosteen peel juice. The treatment was carried out for 14 days. The results showed that the LDL levelwas decreased while the HDL level increased.

Abstract

The extraordinary development of technology makes all human needs can be afforded easily by gadgets. The exixtence of gadgets can reduce human physical activities that lead to health assault, namely dylipidemia. Increasing or decreasing fat fractions in blood vessels is one of its symptoms. One of the fat fractions is trigycerides. The ketepeng plant which contains active substance such as flavonoids, tannis, and saponine have been widely used for medical treatment. This study aimed to determine the ability of ketepeng juice in reducing triglyceride levels.In this study, the tested animals in group 1 were treated with high-fat feed, the ones in group 2 were given high-fat feed, and the ones in group 3 were given high-fat feed and ketepeng leaf juice concentration of 25% (w / v), namely 0.5 ml / 20 grams BW. The results showed that the juice of ketepeng leaves could reduce the triglyceride levels of mice.

Abstract

Health is one of the most important aspects of human life. The use ofmedicinal plant was one effort to maintain human health. The study was focused on the study of boiled water of magosteen peel as an antipyretic. The study was used three treatment and three replication. The study used mice as animal test. Group I would be used control without treatment, group II woud be used as treatment of 200 g of boiled water of mangosteen peel as much as 0,5 ml/mice, group III would be used as treatment of 300 g of boiled water of mangosteen peel as much as 0,5 ml/mice. All mice would be undergo fever injection using DPT vaccine. The result showed that boiled water of mangosteen peel doesn’t have a function as antipyretic.

Abstract

One of the health problems that often and usually appears is fever. Fever is heat regulation at a higher temperature level and is a common symptom that usually accompanies almost all infections. The study was conducted to determine the antipyretic effect of noni (Morindra citrifolia L.) leaf infusion against male mice (Mus muculus) by the artificial fever injection method using DPT vaccine. The test animals were male mice which were divided into 5 groups, each consisting of 4 mice. Group I as a positive control was given 0.5 ml of distilled water, group II as a negative control was given 65 mg / Kg BW of paracetamol, groups III, IV and V as a test group were given 2.5 ml / 100 g BW of noni leaf infusion with their respective concentrations 10%, 20% and 30% respectively. Observations were made on changes in temperature (ºC) of the test animals after being given the treatment. The data obtained were then tabulated in tables and graphs. The results showed that there was a decrease in temperature in the group of mice given noni leaf infusion. Thus it can be concluded that the noni leaf infusion has an antipyretic effect on male mice (Mus muculus).
