Abstract

AbstrakBahasa Inggris telah menjadi salah satu bahasa yang memegang peranan penting pada pergaulan tingkat global, baik didalam konteks personal maupun profesional. Di Indonesia, hal ini berpengaruh terhadap kebijakan diberlakukannya pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar sejak tahun 1994. Akan tetapi, kebijakan memasukkan pelajaran bahasa Inggris pada kurikulum SD bukan tanpa masalah. Masalah yang sering dihadapi pada konteks tersebut diantaranya adalah ketersediaan guru bahasa Inggris SD yang berkualitas, yang dapat menjalankan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa SD. Penggunaan metode bercerita (storytelling) dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing telah direkomendasikan sebagai salah satu metode untuk membelajarkan vocabulary oleh para ahli di bidang English as a Second/Foreign Language (ESL/EFL). Brewster, Ellis dan Girard (2002) menyatakan bahwa penggunaan storytelling dapat memotivasi siswa SD untuk belajar bahasa asing, khususnya bahasa Inggris. Artikel ini membahas tentang penggunaan storytelling dalam membelajarkan vocabulary bagi siswa sekolah dasar, khususnya di kelas rendah dikaitkan dengan the four strands approach yang dicetuskan oleh Nation (2001). Selain itu artikel ini memuat pula contoh singkat kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang membelajarkan vocabulary pada siswa SD kelas 1 dengan mengadopsi cerita The Very Hungry Caterpillar karya Eric Carle.Kata Kunci: storytelling, vocabulary, Primary School

Abstract

Kegiatan storytelling memiliki peran strategis dalam mengembangkan aspek moral pada diri anak-anak. Penggunaan gambar dalam kegiatan storytelling juga telah banyak dilakukan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini. Mengingat anak usia 5-6 tahun masih banyak yang belum memiliki keterampilan menulis dan membaca, maka penggunaan metode picture mapping dalam kegiatan storytelling dipelajari dalam penelitian kali ini. Penggunaan picture map dalam penelitian yaitu sebagai alat untuk menumbuhkembangkan kemampuan komunikasi dan kolaborasi anak usia dini sebagai bagian dari keterampilan abad 21. Tujuan penelitian secara khusus yaitu untuk mengidentifikasi perkembangan aspek-aspek keterampilan abad 21 dalam kegiatan storytelling siswa TK kelompok B di daerah Cibiru, Kabupaten Bandung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Instrumen pengumpul data yang terlibat yaitu rekaman hasil wawancara dengan anak, pedoman observasi yang dilengkapi catatan lapangan, dan rekaman video proses kegiatan storytelling. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa keterampilan abad 21 yang berkembang melalui kegiatan storytelling yang menerapkan penggunaan picture map adalah: (1) kemampuan mengomunikasikan pikiran atau ide menggunakan picture map; (2) kemampuan menyimak isi cerita yang disampaikan guru; (3) kemampuan memberikan respon pada orang lain selama sesi storytelling berlangsung; (4) kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam lingkungan dwibahasa; dan (5) menunjukkan sikap saling tolong menolong dan bekerja sama.

Abstract

Abstract:. This article is part of a classroom action research. The paper aims to describe how vocabulary chart is implemented in the writing learning process to develop elementary school students’ English as a Foreign Language (EFL) critical writing skills. The subject of the study is 28 primary school students grade 3 in one of the public schools in Bandung. The Classroom Action Research was employed in the study. The vocabulary chart was used in a 3-cycle lesson consisting of 9 meetings. This paper focuses on the implementation of vocabulary chart in the first cycle. This research is a qualitative research which used classroom observation, documentation, field note and student interview as the instrument of collecting data. After that the obtained data were discussed and processed to be  described, analyzed, and reflected. The data that has been described is then analyzed to  get the findings. In conclusion, the application of the vocabulary chart to develop elementary school students’ EFL critical writing skill can be implemented in two stages, namely: 1) the vocabulary chart delivery, and  2) the using of vocabulary chart in the students’ critical thinking. The study reveals that the vocabulary chart can develop elementary school students’ EFL critical writing skills.Abstrak: Artikel ini adalah bagian dari penelitian tindakan kelas. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana bagan kosakata diimplementasikan dalam proses pembelajaran menulis untuk mengembangkan kemampuan menulis kritis bahasa Inggris siswa sebagai Bahasa Asing (EFL). Subyek penelitian adalah 28 siswa sekolah dasar di kelas 3 di salah satu sekolah umum di Bandung. Penelitian Tindakan Kelas digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Bagan kosakata digunakan dalam pelajaran 3-siklus yang terdiri dari 9 pertemuan. Makalah ini berfokus pada penerapan grafik kosakata dalam siklus pertama. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan observasi kelas, dokumentasi, catatan lapangan dan wawancara siswa. Setelah itu data didiskusikan dan diproses dengan cara yang dijelaskan, dianalisis, dan dipantulkan. Data yang telah dijelaskan dianalisis untuk melepaskan temuan. Dalam pengiriman grafik kosakata, dan 2) penggunaan grafik kosakata dalam pemikiran kritis siswa. Studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa grafik kosakata dapat mengembangkan keterampilan menulis kritis EFL siswa sekolah dasar.

Abstract

This paper is a part of a bigger research about the implementation of story project that attempts to develop children’s critical literacy skill. The discussion in this paper focuses at the implementation of Sundanese story dictation on a 5-year-old child. The present study aims to identify the process of the story dictation, which is conducted for the very first time as a method to help children in expressing their own-created stories. Case study was employed as the research method. The subject of the present study was a 5-year-old boy who speaks Sundanese fluently and can express his ideas orally, in an kindergarten in Kabupaten Bandung. Story dictation was the method used to enable the subject to create a Sundanese story. The data were collected through video-tapped observation, in-depth interview and teacher’s field notes during the process of story dictation. Subsequently, the collected data were analysed. The finding revealed that the subject was able to complete the process of the story dictation voluntarily and could express his own story fluently. The investigation has shown that the created story can be categorised as a very good one.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integrity of teachers, students, and parents in the Final Semester Assessment (PAS) conducted in the COVID-19 pandemic. PAS is the final process of measuring the achievement of student learning outcomes as one of the considerations for successful knowledge acquisition in one semester. Therefore, it is necessary to have high integrity in its implementation to describe the actual learning achievement of students. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method involving teachers (n = 109), students (n = 725) and parents (n = 846) from various public and private elementary schools in Bekasi. Furthermore, survey was conducted using google form for data collection, where respondents were asked to input several statements related to the integrity of teachers, parents and students in the PAS. The data from the documents or questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive-exploratory method to draw reflective conclusions. The results showed (1) the integrity of teachers in PAS included in the low category was 15.60%, the medium was 69.72%, and high was 14.68%. (2) the integrity of students which was categorized as low was 10.89%, medium was 81.24%, and high was 7.86%. (3) the integrity of parents categorized as low was 15.60%, medium was 72.34%, and the high was 12.05%. It was concluded that teachers, students, and parents who have high integrity in PAS were far-outnumbered by those in the low or medium category. Therefore, integrity in the school and family environment should be continuously improved.

Abstract

Media literacy for children is important and crucial issue in digital era since it influences children’s development. Some findings show that some sexual abuse cases happened because most of the people are media illiterate, specifically the predator, the victims and people around the victims. Unfortunately, study on media literacy for children in the context of Indonesia is limited. Thus, the article will describe the literatures of learning strategies that assumed effective in developing media literacy of the children. This study is part of ongoing project entitled,” Program Pengembangan Model Desa Ramah Anak Anti Kekerasan Seksual Melalui Pembentukan “Komunitas Sayang Anak” oleh Posdaya Terintegrasi dengan BKB dan BKR Desa.” The literature review method was employed in this study to review and analyze some theories andconcepts related to the program. Data analysis was conducted to categorize the themes that suitable and applicable for the children. The data showed that media literacy development of the children should focus on some aspects, and those are: (1) parental guidance, (2) children’s critical thinking skills, and (3) kinds of media. The development of each aspect should be developed based onthe children’s developmental stages and learning styles.          Keywords: media literacy of children, early childhood education, sexual abuse of children.

Abstract

Parenting has a very important role in the growth and development of children. This paper examines the application of parenting education for Indonesians abroad. This activity involved 14 participants from the Indonesian School of Davao, Philippines. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which is carried out in a participatory manner with the aim of encouraging changes in the living conditions of participants for the better. The implementation of parenting education in the digital era uses synchronous modes through video conference platforms and asynchronous through the use of websites. The results of this activity showed a positive response from the participants and shared perceptions regarding the importance of care in families and schools, especially for the development of children's character.
