Abstract

 Improving soil and plant productivity in semiarid regions was challenged by the climatic factors such low  rain fall and high temperature in addition to limited availability of appropriate  agricultural technologies. The objective of this field trial was to assess the effect of biochar and compost tea on the growth of curly leave lettuce grown in a semiarid region of West Timor. Two types of biochars (rice husk and sawdust) in combination with two types of compost teas namely Chromolaena odorata stem and guano at two rates (150 ml/plant and 250 ml/plant) were arranged in a factorial randomized completely block design 3 x 3 x 3  with 4 replicates. Soil parameters such as pH and electrical conductivity, and plant parameters such number of leaves, fresh weight were measured to indicate the treatment effects. The results indicated that soil temperature and soil bulk density were decreased,  and soil moisture, soil electrical conductivity, number of leaves, total fresh weight, and root length were increased by added biochars and compost teas. Application of rice husk biochar at 10 t/ha in combination with guano compost tea at 250 ml/plant in increase the lettuce shoot fresh weight almost twice compared to the control. This results could be attributed to the improving soil productivity by added biochars and nutrients supply by the teas.

Abstract

Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) productivity in dryland decreased recently due to the soil fertility degradation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of biochar types and cattle manure rates on the growth of mungbean in semi-arid dark soil. The factorial completely randomized block design 3 x 5 with four replicates was set to arrange treatments for the field trial. Two biochars (rice husk and sawdust) at 10 t/ha in combination with four rates of cattle manure (1, 3, 5 and 10 t/ha) and control (without biochar and cattle manure) were applied to the soil, incubated for three weeks and then planted with mungbean cv. Fore Belu. The results revealed that additions of biochar and cattle manure increased soil moisture and soil electrical conductivity by 2-4% and 0.15-0.20, respectively; decreased soil temperature and bulk density by 1-2oC and 0.2 g/cm3, respectively; increased plant height, stem diameter, root length, total, shoot and root dry weights by 4 cm, 0.1 cm, 5 cm, 7 g, 0.9 g and 6 g, respectively, compared to the control. The best growth of mungbean was obtained from the additions of sawdust biochar at 10 t/ha and cattle manure at 3 t/ha.

Abstract

An experiment was carried out using FMA and compost fertilizer, to increase the growth and yield of Setaria Sphacelata grass. This study aims to determine the interaction between the combination of FMA (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi) and compost fertilizer on the growth and production of Setaria Sphacelata grass biomass. The study was conducted in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Timor, Kelurahan Sasi, Kota Kefamenanu District, Timor Tengah Utara Regency. The study lasted for 3 months where data collection was carried out in 2 production periods, namely: production I: 45 days after planting and production II 90 days after planting, the study commenced from the beginning of June to the end of August 2019, using a Randomized Group Design (RBD). The first factor is the level of Fungi Micoriza Arbuscula (FMA) (F), namely: Without Fungi Micoriza Arbuscula (control) (F0) and Fungi Micoriza Arbuscula 50 g / planting hole (F1). The second factor is the level of compost (P), namely: Without compost (control) (P0), compost 500 g / planting hole (P1), and compost 750 g / planting hole (P2). Results of variance (ANOVA) showed that the level of FMA and level of compost fertilizer generally did not interact positively (P> 0.05), in influencing all observed variables. The results showed that giving FMA level 50 g / planting hole and compost fertilizer level 500 g / planting hole showed the best results that could be expressed in the highest number of tillers in the first and second production, the heaviest weight of fresh and dry canopy in the first and second production. The conclusions from the results of this research are the number of tillers I = 8.48 and production II = 15.36, fresh weight of production canopy I = 40.97 and production II = 76.77, dry weight production canopy I = 9.50, and production II = 14.32. There was a real difference between treatments with different FMA levels and compost levels on all observed parameters.

Abstract

Pakcoy cultivation in dry land is still not optimal due to the growing environment that requires technology. Fertigation verticulture is used as an effort to increase pakcoy production in dry land. The purpose of this study was to determine the fertigation time, composition of planting media and the distance between planting holes and their interactions in increasing nutrient uptake and efficiency of N and P absorption for pakcoy plants on the vertical fertigation system. This research was carried out in the agricultural garden of the Main Seed Center of the North Central Timor Regency Agriculture Office from June to December 2021. The study used an experimental method with a Separate Plot Design with 3 plots where the main plot was the fertigation time which consisted of 3 levels, namely W1 (60 seconds). ), W2 (90 seconds), and W3 (120 seconds). The main subplot is the composition of the growing media which consists of 4 levels, namely: M1 (Soil: Sand (1:1)); M2 (Soil: Biochar (1:1)); M3 (Soil: Biochar (1:1)); and M4 (Soil: Sand: Biochar (1:1:1)). The subplots are the spacing of the planting holes consisting of 3 levels, namely: J1 (15 cm); J2 (20 cm); and J3 (25 cm). There were 36 treatments which were repeated 4 (four) times in order to obtain a total of 144 treatments. Data analysis used a comparative test using the Duncan Multiple Range Test method at 5% level. The results showed that the fertigation time of 120 seconds (W3) and the composition of the growing media: biochar (1:1) (M2) and their interactions increased the N and P uptake of pakcoy plants grown in a verticulture system on dry land by treatment. The fermentation time of 120 seconds (W3) and the composition of the growing media: biochar (1:1) (M2) also increased the efficiency of N and P nutrient absorption.

Abstract

Sebuah percobaan pot telah dilakukan untuk menguji efek biochar sekam padi yang diperkaya hara dan ketebalan mulsa terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil selada (Lactuca sativa, L.) varietas Grand Rapids. Biochar sekam padi yang diperkaya (direndam dalam pupuk organik cair) diaplikasikan dalam 3 aras yakni 0, 2,4 dan 0,4% dikombinasikan dengan mulsa alang-alang 0, 2 dan 4 cm. Biochar dicampur merata dengan tanah Vertisol dimasukan ke dalam pot-pot percobaan, disusun dalam sebuah rancangan acak lengkap faktorial dengan 3 ulangan, diinkubasikan pada kadar lengas 70% selama 2 minggu dan ditanami bibit selada, dipelihara dan diamati hingga pertumbuhan vegatatif maksimum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi biochar sekam padi dan mulsa berinteraksi positif (P≤0.01) dalam pengaruhi pertumbuhan selada (tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat segar tajuk, dan berat segar tanaman) dan meningkat hasil 3-7 kali lipat dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Hasil tertinggi (berat segar tajuk) sebesar 37,2 g/tanaman diperoleh dari kombinasi biochar sekam padi 2% dan mulsa 2 cm.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan takaran guano dan konsentrasi teh kompos yang memberikan pertumbuhan dan hasil yang tertinggi bagi kacang hijau (Vigna radiata, L.) varietas unggul lokal Fore Belu. Guano 0 t/ha, 1 t/ha, 2 t/ha dan 3 t/ha sebagai pupuk akar diberikan yang dikombinasikan dengan teh kompos konsentrasi 1:5 (bokasi 1 kg diekstrak dengan 5 liter air) dan 1:10 (bokasi 1 kg diekstrak dengan 10 liter air) yang disemprotkan melalui daun. Perlakukan disusun menurut Rancangan Acak kelompok faktorial yang diulang dalam empat blok. Teh kompos diberikankan melalui daun dan akar setiap minggu semenjak kacang hijau berumur 14 hari hingga 42 hari setelah tanam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa parameter pertumbuhan (diameter batang, panjang akar, luas daun) dan hasil kacang hijau (berat biji kering) tertinggi diperoleh dari pemberian guano 2 t/ha. Pemberian teh kompos konsentrasi 1:5 secara signifikan menurunkan serangan karat daun yang mengindikasikan adanya peningkatan ketahanan kacang hijau terhadap penyakit.

Abstract

Penggunaan anakan yang tumbuh liar sebagai bibit (stump) umum dilakukan pada tanaman kemiri oleh masyarakat di pulau Timor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Pemangkasan akar dan Waktu Aklimatisasi terhadap pertumbuhan bibit tanaman kemiri Aleurites maluccana, Willd) asal stum dengan menggunakan Rancangan petak terbagi (Split Plot Design) faktorial 3x3 dengan 3 ulangan. Petak utama perlakuan adalah waktu aklimatisasi, dengan 3 aras yaitu, diaklimatisasi selama 3 minggu (C3), 4 minggu (C4), dan 5 minggu (C5). Anak petak perlakuan adalah pemangkasan akar yang terdiri dari 3 aras yaitu, pemotongan dengan menyisakan panjang akar 15 cm (P0), 10 cm (P1), dan 5 cm (P2). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan; tidak terjadi interaksi antar perlakuan sisa pangkasan akar dengan waktu aklimatisasi. Pengaruh utama perlakuan sisa pangkasan akar 5 cm menghasilkan persentase peningkatan bobot kering tanaman (99,7 %) dan pertumbuhan terbaik. Pengaruh utama perlakuan waktu aklimatisasi 5 minggu menghasilkan persentase peningkatan bobot kering tanaman terbaik (95,27 %) dan pertumbuhan terbaik.

Abstract

Research to determine the effect of type and dosage of manure on the growth and yield of french bean and also type and dosage of manure that can increase growth and yield, implemented in December 2016 - February 2017 in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Timor University, Sasi Village. The research used Randomized Block Design with two factors, namely, the first factor is the type of manure, consisting of cow manure, pig manure, goat manure. The second factor is the dosage of manure, consisting of 5 t / ha, 10 t / ha, 15 t / ha. The results showed no interaction between the type and dosage of manure. Giving of pig manure with the dosage of 15 t / ha can give the highest growth, ie at the end of vegetative reaching height 56,78 cm and highest yield in the form of, number of pods per plant most (39 pods), number of fresh pods per plot (235 pods) , fresh pods per heaviest plant (240 g), and fresh pods per heaviest plot (1.28 kg).

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh jenis biochar dan jenis pupuk organik terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil kacang hijau (Vigna radiata, L.) serta mengetahui jenis biochar dan jenis pupuk pada pertumbuhan dan hasil kacang hijau, benih yang dipakai berasal dari sarana produksi pertanian terdekat yang bebas dari organisme pengganggu tanaman. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) tiga faktorial yang diulang tiga kali. Faktor yang pertama terdiri dari tiga aras yaitu tanpa biochar, arang sekam padi, arang sebuk gergaji, faktor yang kedua terdiri dari tiga aras yaitu tanpa pupuk organik, pupuk kandang sapi dan pupuk guano. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni sampai dengan bulan Agustus 2016 di kebun percobaan Fakultas pertanian Universitas Timor, TTU, NTT.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa antara jenis biochar dan jenis pupuk organik tidak terjadi interaksi, baik pengaruhnya terhadap parameter pertumbuhan maupun hasil kacang hijau yang diamati. Biochar serbuk gergaji dan pupuk guano memberikan pengaruh paling optimal terhadap hasil tertinggi kacang hijau berupa berat biji, masing-masing seberat 2,60 g/tanaman dan 3,12 g/tanaman.

Abstract

The decrease of maize yields on dryland farming areas could have resulted from the effects of strong competition between plants in a population due to an inappropriate number of plants, corn variety, and limited growth factors. The use of the right number of plants hole-1 and variety is expected to increase corn seed yield. The results showed that in the population 285,714 plants ha-1, the yield of seeds weighing 7.78 g cob-1 at 12% moisture content and 7.73 ton ha-1 at oven-dry weight, produced by local varieties of the hill. This result indicates that the two factor of treatment did not have an effect on maize yield. The population treatment of 285,714 plants ha-1 yielding seeds weighing 135.23 g plant-1 dry weight oven and 7.73 ton ha-1 on oven dry weight. The local varieties of Bukit produced seeds weighing 90.20 g plant-1 at 12% and 5.13 t ha-1 moisture content on oven dry weight, potentially developed in dryland especially in Mumbul Park area, South Kuta in a population of 285,714 plant ha-1 (4 plants per hole).
