Abstract

The business’ level, lack of knowledge about the making process and use of hand sanitizers from natural ingredients caused sellers in Pasar Baru Kefamenanu do not apply the health protocols during transactions with buyers. Therefore, there needs to be educated about natural ingredients that can be used as hand sanitizers, the making process, and how to use them. Natural ingredients that are found in Kefamenanu are betel leaves. Education on making hand sanitizers from betel leaves helps sellers to be able to make their own hand sanitizers. The addition of aloe vera to betel leaves extract aims to make the liquid hand sanitizer becomes softer. While lime and perfume are to get rid of the betel leaves’ smell. The distribution of hand sanitizers that has been made can be an example of products from natural ingredients and the storage bottles provided can be used as a refill place for hand sanitizer.

Abstract

A method for the determination of diazinon in soil samples has been developed. The analyte was extracted with acetonitrile from farmland soil sample. Determination and quantification of diazinon were perfomed by high perfomance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with an UV detector. Optimum conditions for diazinon analysis were eluent composition of acetonitrile:water ratio of 60:40, 0.4 mL/min of flow rate, and 220 nm of wavelength. Under the optimum conditions, diazinon linearity was between 1 and 25 mgL-1 with R2 of 0.9976, 1.19 mgL-1 LOD, and 3.98 mgL-1 LOQ. When the method was applied to the soil sample, both pesticides showed acceptable recoveries for real sample of more than 85%: thus, the developed method meets the validation requirement. Under this developed method, the concentrations of diazinon in the soil samples were below the LOD and LOQ (0.577 mgL-1). Therefore, it can be concluded that the soil samples used in this study did not contain diazinon.

Abstract

Abstract

The lack of knowledge and skills of the weaver community in Amol Village, North Central Timor Regency to prepare natural dye from natural resources that are difficult to be found in dry season is the main reason to conduct this service activity. This training was aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the weaver group and providing them indigo paste as a natural color stock that can be stored and used during dry season. Service activities were carried out through 2 steps, namely counseling and training, which begins with a demonstration by service team and then continues with independent practice while being accompanied by the team. The knowledge of the weaver group to extract natural dyes from natural resources has been improved, as evidenced by the evaluation results. Members of the weaver group became more skilled in preparing indigo paste from Indigofera tinctoria leaves. At the end of the activity, indigo paste products were obtained which were applied to Timor woven fabric.

Abstract

Tannins from tamarind seed husk were extracted and applied as a biomordant for natural dyeing process of Timor woven fabrics. Tannins were extracted using hot distilled water, qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed and applied as a color binder to the woven fabrics. The color characteristics of woven fabrics with tannins were compared to the woven fabrics that mordanted with Al2(SO4)3 and FeSO4 at the concentration of 15%. Tamarind seed husk tannins are in the form of a brownish red powder. Qualitative and quantitative tests showed that tamarind seed coat contained condensed tannins with a total concentration of 70.08 ± 0.14%. Tannins identification by FT-IR spectroscopy showed a strong band absorption at 3369 cm-1 for O-H group and a weak absorption at 1721 cm-1 due to the C=O stretch. A strong absorption at 1611-1608 cm-1 was observed for C=C group in the aromatic ring and was strengthened with a strong absorption at 1520 cm-1, C-O-C group which is specific for condensed tannins was observed at 1285 cm-1. Application of 15% tannin as a biomordant without natural dye on Timor woven fabric produced a brownish red color, while the use of 15% tannin and turmeric dye showed a brownish yellow color. Tannin exhibited a better color fastness than metalic mordants in natural dyeing of Timor woven fabrics.
