Abstract

The study is conducted with the ability to representation in understanding the concept of interference and diffraction. The purpose of this research is to map the ability of student representation. The types of representations used in this research are verbal representation, visual representation, and mathematical representation. Research is conducted using analytic descriptive methods. The study was conducted in the Manado state university physics department during the V semester of the 21-student physics education course. The data-gathering techniques use essays which consist of verbal, visual, and math. By research, it was found that the ability to the student was divided into three categories that were the singular representation category, the dual representation category, and the complex representation category. Data analysis shows a 9.5% for single representational ability category, 47.6 % category double representational ability, and 42.9% category complex representational ability. Therefore, a student's dual capacity of representation is more dominant than a single representation and complex representation

Abstract

Physics learning is currently still dominated by teacher centered that the principle of learning interaction is oriented to the transfer of knowledge. The research do to determine the application of discovery learning models in improving student learning outcomes. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Kotamobagu for the subject of light and optical devices. The research method used was the classroom action research model of Jhon Elliot. Data collection was performed on 20 students of class VIII. Data analysis uses percentages based on mastery learning references. The results obtained showed that the application of discovery learning models can improve student learning outcomes and this is seen from the average value of the class. At meeting I the average value was 62, at meeting II 71.25 and at meeting III reached 80.25. The percentage of mastery learning also shows the same thing where at the first meeting the value of completeness percentage 65%, at meeting II 85% and at meeting III reached 100%. The results of this study concluded that the discovery learning model was suitable for use in learning physics in class VIII junior high school on the topic of light and optical devices

Abstract

In today's digital era, the learning system has undergone many changes. Online-based learning has become one of the most important learning models today and one of the learning models that utilize online media such as Blended learning or the use of smartphones. The purpose of this research is to develop an online laboratory guide on pendulum material. The stages that have been carried out in this study: Designing an online laboratory activity guide using a phyphox application-based cellphone. This software development is carried out based on the research and development research collaboration of Research and Development (R & D) including: Analysis / Defining Stage, Design Stage, Development Stage, Testing and Evaluation Phase. The results of the study recommend that the online practicum guide using a phyphox application-based handphone on pendulum material is suitable for optimizing practicum activities in the Physics Department. This collaborative research between lecturers and students can also improve the academic climate, through optimizing lecturer-student interactions.

Abstract

Utilizing the surrounding environment as source of lessons and relate them with the lessons that studied by the student in school are still rarely done nowadays, which make the students not really understand the relation of context and concept. The purpose of this study is to describe the relation between water cycle context with physics concept and other subject base on the result of concept mastery and the ability to identify the problems in the field. The results showed that the correlation between the physics mastery of phase transition with biology concept of evapotranspiration of 8 students is 0.59, the correlation between observations in field to identify the sewage (solid and liquid) on the river with the sewage treatment technology and water pollution control is 1, and correlation between water cycle concept charts and its components with the students ability to identified water sources in the village, neighbourhood and in other places is 0,89.

Abstract

The first step to learn science is through observation and measurement as a part of the observation. The research was conducted with the aim to improve the processes and student learning outcomes by implementing the teaching through the application of a scientific approach to the method of observation and discussion on the subject of "object IPA and observations". The research was conducted on a class VII SMP Negeri 1 Airmadidi 2015-2016 school year the number of students 30 people. The study design used is a Class Action Research or Classroom Action Research model of John Elliot. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis techniques, where the data described is data about students' ability to master scientific concepts and data on student engagement during the learning process takes place. To obtain the necessary data in this study used the instrument in the form of Student Worksheet (LKS) and tests to determine the level of student mastery of concepts. Result reflections 1 suggested need to proceed to the second cycle because of the 30 students there are 17 students who have not been thoroughly studied. Through learning activities and teaching the second cycle showed that all students have been thoroughly studied and an increase in average student learning outcomes of 64.83 (first cycle) to 74.67 (second cycle). Results of this study concluded that the application of a scientific approach to the method of observation and discussion on the objects of material science and observations can improve the process and the achievements of students of class VII SMP Negeri 1 Airmadidi.

Abstract

Geothermal production in steam turbines must pay attention to the quality of the incoming steam because if their steam is condensed it will affect the effectiveness of the turbine, so the purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of condensation in the pipe steam flow. The method used in this research is descriptive, where each parameter measurement is calculated using Microsoft Office Excel programming steam prog and using the Harrison and Friston equation which calculates per segment of pipe length (3 m) and calculates the vapor fraction (x) and pipe length in a graph which determines the final result of this study. The graph results between the vapor fraction and the length of the pipe show that the vapor fraction value along the steam pipe continues to increase until 0.9997 (99.98%) almost becomes 1 (100%) meaning that there is no condensation in the steam pipe from the separator to the scrubber.

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of knowing changes in temperature in the urban forest green open space (RTH) area and in non-green open space areas in the Megamas Manado complex. This study uses a descriptive analytical design. In this study, there are microclimate variables and the determination of the sample using purposive sampling method. This study aims to test the hypothesis whether it is true that the temperature in the green open space area is lower than the temperature in the non green open space area. There are three data collection points, namely in the urban forest area, the Mega Mall area, and the Marina-2 Manado area. Based on the average temperature value, it shows that the temperature in the green open space is lower than the temperature in the non green open area. The statistical test results also state that there is a significant (significant) difference between the temperature in the green open space and the temperature in the non green open space. Therefore, this research concludes that the Green Open Space Area (RTH) can reduce solar energy, so that the temperature in the green open space area is lower than the temperature in the non-RTH area.

Abstract

Explorative learning about the concepts and processes of physics in the daily dynamics of the microclimate on the surface of vegetated and non-vegetated soil is an example of the physics learning process by utilizing the natural surroundings as a learning object. The purpose of this researh was to determine the effectiveness of explorative learning in analyzing the concepts and processes of physics in the daily dynamics of the microclimate on the surface of vegetated and non-vegetated land. This research used a pre-experimental method one group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects are third semester students of Physics Education, Manado State University 2021/2022. Data collection is in the form of observation tables/exploratory fromats. After obtaining the data, the research results were statistically processed using the SPSS 22.0 application for windows. The pretest average result was 47.80 and increased to 89.70 in the posttest average. Obtaining N-Gain scores from student, there are 8 students in the high N-Gain category with a percentage of 80% and 2 students in the medium N-Gain category with a percentage of 20%. The average result of the N-Gain percentage of 10 students is 80.15%. The results of this reseacrh indicate that explorative learning is effectively used in exploring physical concepts and processes in the daily dynamics of the microclimate on vegetated and non-vegetated soil surfaces.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the concept and scientific process of the phenomenon of changes in air temperature and soil temperature in vegetation land, open land, and asphalt roads. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative approach. The exploratory research used by the research team is themodel Higher Orther Thinking Learning in Democratic Interactionwhich (HOTL-DI) Type A emphasizes interactive components, individualistic high-level learning processes and democratic interactions as a process of sharing and cooperation between individuals in groups. The first stage of object exploration (changes in air temperature and soil temperature in vegetation land, open land, and asphalt roads), concepts and scientific processes is carried out by the research team under the guidance of the thesis supervisor. The second stage is exploratory research on fourth semester students majoring in physics education for the 2021 academic year. The stage of exploring physics objects, concepts and processes in groups as democratic interactions. Democratic indicators, formulated by researchers based on the condition of group interaction when exploring objects and discussing in group report preparation. Students experience difficulties at the beginning of exploration activities because they lack experience in exploring physical concepts and processes about natural phenomena. Democratic behavior and exploration activities seem to be getting better over time, so this learning can realize learning activities to explore objects, concepts and science processes in democratic interaction learning well.

Abstract

The dynamics of the natural phenomenon of Lake Tondano become a source of student learning in understanding physical concepts packaged in innovative learning as an activity by applying the latest learning elements in the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of exploratory learning about the concepts and processes of physics in the dynamics of the natural phenomenon of Lake Tondano. The method used in this study is a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The research stage begins with giving a pretest to measure the students' initial abilities, then takes action (treatment) through exploratory learning and the next activity ends by giving a post-test. The research subjects are fourth semester students of the Manado State University Physics Education Study Program for the 2021/2022 academic year who are contracted for the Environmental Physics course. The evaluation results provide information that the average pre-test is 42.95 and the post-test results are 85.42. The average results of the assessment of science process skills are in good criteria (66%-79%). and very good criteria (80%-100%) affective assessment is in very good criteria (80%-100%). Obtaining N-gain scores from each student, there were as many as 10 students in the high N-Gain category with a percentage of 62.6% and as many as 6 students in the medium N-Gain category with a percentage of 36.8%. The result of the average N-Gain percentage of 16 students is 74.9%. The results of the study explain that students' understanding of physics concepts and science skills can be improved through exploratory learning on the natural dynamics phenomenon of Lake Tondano.
