Abstract

Feedback is a technique used in the teaching and learning environment to improve the acquisition of knowledge and skills, including writing mastery. This study investigates the impact of incorporating peer and teacher feedback techniques through Twitter on developing writing skills in French as a Foreign Language (FFL) class. The study employed a quantitative experimental approach that adopted a One Group Pre-Test and Post-Test design. A sample of 30 students enrolled in the fourth semester of the French Language Education Study Program at a university in Bandung, Indonesia, participated in the study. This study used two research instruments to gather the data: a writing assessment consisting of a pre-test and post-test and a questionnaire to measure students' perceptions of the studies' treatment. The data test was analyzed using the CEFR A2-level assessment instrument from Tagliante (2005) and then processed statistically using SPSS 26 software. While questionnaire data were analyzed using a Likert scale with five intervals. The statistical analysis results demonstrated a substantial impact, indicating increased scores from the pre-test to the post-test. The observable augmentation in the caliber and efficacy of student writing across all evaluation domains supports this assertion. In conclusion, the implementation of peer and teacher feedback using Twitter in French as a Foreign Language (FFL) writing class significantly enhances students' writing proficiency. Furthermore, it allows students to demonstrate a favorable acceptance and perception of this implementation to improve their French writing skills.

Abstract

Tolerance for Ambiguity (TfA) which is commonly involved in the field of Human Resources in industry has been adopted in the development of the quality of foreign language learning, especially foreign language acquisition by learners. In this study, the reference is French language which is limited by Subject Verb Agreement involving the periodic verb [+Present]. There are two research objectives, namely (1) to describe the tendency of TfA level at the beginning of the lecture and (3) to describe the students' efforts in developing TfA. The results of the study using a qualitative descriptive approach show that, first, the students have a high level of TfA although the students still make mistakes in French but the problem is not too significant because the suffixes representing the features of Tense [+Present], Person [+1P, +2P, +3P] and Number [±Plural] on verbs from the grammar area Subject Verb Agreement (SVA). Secondly, a high level of TfA is well-established by the students because they have the ability to maintain and develop the aspect of efforts to master SVA in French.

Abstract

This study investigates the antagonistic behaviour of Alice –as someone who is in favour of extreme-right wing authority–, who initially conceals her support for the dominance of the extreme right-wing party that espouses white supremacy ideology in her interaction with Ousmane as someone who has affected by racism and discrimination. As film progresses, there is a change in her attitude from being concealed to being openly supportive of the ideology of the right-wing or even far-right party, which does not favour pluralism, immigrants, and non-white people, also known as xenophobia. Regarding Alice's behaviour, all of her speech acts will be analysed using Pragmatics-Sociolinguistics theory. It is hoped that by using Pragmatics-Sociolinguistics theory, the behavior and speech acts of the character Alice can be explained and analyzed.

Abstract

Several challenges hinder French language learning, hence diminishing its effectiveness. Consequently, there is a demand for educational tools that are accommodating and efficient, such as media-sharing sites (MSS). MSS has several positive and negative effects. Minimizing adverse effects requires knowledge of factors that can make learning effective. Consequently, this research aims to fulfill this requirement by identifying the variables that affect learning outcomes and students' responses to the implementation of MSS in learning French. This study used a systematic literature review (SLR). Research data was collected from several databases, including Taylor & Francis Online (tandfonline.com), Research Gate (researchgate.net), and RDiscovery (discovery.research.life). Twenty-two articles were selected, extracted, and analyzed for this study. The findings are grouped into two main issues: factors affecting learning outcomes and students' responses. Factors affecting student learning outcomes are grouped into four areas: learning models, systems and features, audio-visual content, and teacher contributions. Thus, students' responses are categorized into three types: cognitive, affective, and conative responses. The results showed that implementing MSS in learning French assisted educators and learners more effectively and efficiently. Furthermore, it was found that there is a correlation between student responses and the future vision of education.

Abstract

This research examines the use of discourse deixis in expressive illocutionary acts of sadness, joy, anger, disgust, fear, and surprise, as articulated by Juan Carlos in the film “pourris gâtes” The central plot of the film revolves around Francis Bartek's endeavor to teach his children about maturity by feigning poverty. However, this is discovered by Juan Carlos, who is Stella's boyfriend, and he aims to exploit the wealth of Francis' children. The dialogue between Juan Carlos, Francis Bartek, Phillippe, Stella, and Alexandre is analyzed using Levinson's theory, which emphasizes that discourse deixis involves the use of temporal, spatial, and demonstrative words. This research explains how the involvement of discourse deixis in expressive illocutionary acts can support the ‘telling’ and ‘showing’ methods in characterizing Juan Carlos’s antagonism through ineffective sentences and violations of the cooperative principle carried out by Juan Carlos.
