Abstract

Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) was one of the plants that was easily founded in the yard of the house, but not many people knowed about the benefits of this plant. Education about the efficacy of bay leaves was very important to give to the public so that they were rich in knowledge of the efficacy of these plants. The purpose of this community service was to provide insight into knowledge that was more than bay leaves besides being used as a spice in everyday life. The method used in community service was online via online by discussing and asking questions directly to the community, especially housewives. The results obtained from community service activities are that housewives respond to the material presented so that they become more aware and understand the efficacy of bay leaves which have not been known as herbal plants. From the results of community service activities, it cold be concluded that housewives become more aware of and understand the efficacy of bay leaves other than as a spice, namely as a herbal plant that could reduce complaints from various diseases including diabetes mellitus, gout, cholesterol and so on.

Abstract

The examination effect of salam leaf ethanolic extract where the purposed of this study was to determine the effect and concentration of salam leaves as antidiarrheals. Ethanol extract dosages of salam leaf given orally (mg/kgbw) was 15;20;25;30;and 35, carried out abservations on mice starting diarrhea, weight of faeces, frequency diarrhea, and the duration of diarrhea for 5 hours. Loperamide HCl given dose of 1 mg/kg is used comparison with negative control CMC-Na, and comparison of Loperamide HCl was the 56th minute, 57,3; 57,9; 59; 58; 64,3 ; 54,3. Stool weight obtained an average of 0,34; 0,35; 0,32; 0,25; 0,27; 0,53; 0,21. The frequency of diarrhea was 8,8; 8,6; 8,9; 9,3; 8,6; 11,2; 8,5. Onset of diarrheal was average of minutes was 206,8; 207,6 ; 209,2; 209; 206,2; 230 and 88. From the research results obtained ethanol extract salam leaves given antidiarrheal effects with an optimum dose of 35mg/kgbw.

Abstract

The development of type 2 diabetes is influenced by the important role of post-prandial blood glucose management. One strategy in controlling post-prandial hyperglycemia can be done by inhibiting the digestion of dietary carbohydrates through inhibition of alpha amylase enzyme. Natural alpha amylase enzyme inhibition strategy that utilizes natural ingredients is an important alternative in the development of antidiabetic drugs. One of the plants that has the potential to be developed as an antidiabetic is Peperomia pellucida. This study aims to examine the effects of antidiabetic extracts and fractions of Peperomia pellucida in inhibiting alpha amylase enzyme. The research was conducted by determining the total flavonoid using quercetin standard. Antidiabetic studies were carried out by looking at the activity of extracts and fractions of Peperomia pellucida in inhibiting alpha amylase enzyme using visible spectrophotometry method. Data analysis was performed by entering the absorbance value into the standard quercetin curve, while the IC50 value of in vitro antidiabetic activity was determined by entering the value 50 on the curve between the sample concentration and % inhibition of the alpha amylase enzyme. The results showed that the total flavonoid values of the ethanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction of the herb were 88.24 mg QE/g extract and 80.45 mg QE/g fraction, respectively. Based on the results, the inhibition of alpha amylase enzyme showed that the ethanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction of the herbs had inhibitory activity with the IC50 value of the ethanol extract 1065.54 g/mL and the ethyl acetate fraction 906.53 g/mL. While the control of acarbose showed an IC50 value of 379.45 g/mL. The ethanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction of Peperomia pellucida herbs have the potential to be developed as antidiabetic agents with the mechanism of action of inhibiting the activity of the alpha amylase enzyme.

Abstract

Pelatihan pembuatan teh herbal dari limbah kuli biji kopi dilakukan oleh tim KKN Kolaborasi se-Jember Kelompok 190 kepada ibu rumah tangga di Desa Suren, Kecamatan Ledokombo, Kabupaten Jember. Desa Suren memiliki potensi desa yang lebih condong ke sektor pertanian atau perkebunan, seperti perkebunan kopi. Keterbatasan pengetahuan masyarakat di Desa Suren, khususnya kaum ibu rumah tangga, dalam mengolah kulit biji kopi membuat menumpuknya limbah kulit biji kopi di Desa Suren. Menumpuknya limbah kulit biji kopi menjadi alasan dilaksanakannya kegiatan ini. Pelatihan pembuatan teh herbal dari limbah biji kopi ini mampu meningkatkan nilai jual produk dan juga dapat menciptakan produk dengan inovasi yang baru, selain itu dapat mengurangi limbah kulit biji kopi. Metode yang digunakan pada pelatihan ini yaitu berupa penyuluhan dan edukasi serta prakek pembuatan teh herbal. Pada tahap penyuluhan dan edukasi tim KKN Kolaboratif Kelompok 190 mendeskripsikan tentang pentingnya teh herbal bagi kesehatan, manfaat teh herbal dari limbah kulit kopi, serta keunggulan produk teh herbal dari limbah kulit kopi. Kemudian dilanjut dengan praktik pembuatan teh herbal sesuai intruksi dari tim KKN Kolaboratif Kelompok 190. Hasil yang diperoleh berupa produk teh herbal dari limbah kulit biji kopi dan juga bekal ilmu pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam memproduksi teh herbal secara mandiri.

Abstract

Brushing teeth is the easiest way to maintain dental and oral health. Elementary school age children have a susceptibility to problems with teeth and mouth. Risk factors that are still driving the high prevalence of dental cavities (caries) in children include: incorrect brushing techniques; inappropriate brushing time and frequency; intake of cariogenic food and drink; low supervision from parents; and the lack of knowledge of children on how to maintain dental and oral health. The problem of cavities in children interferes with the growth and development and attendance of children at school. The purpose of the study: to improve the knowledge and skills of students at SD Negeri 4 Suren on how to brush their teeth properly. Research method: the activity was carried out offline at SD Negeri 4 Suren, on Saturday, August 20, 2022. A series of counseling activities included licensing to the principal of SD Negeri 4 Suren, giving a tooth brushing practice pretest, delivering material verbally assisted by poster media, material in in the form of power points, educational videos, followed by a demonstration of phantom teeth followed by hands-on practice, and giving posttest. Results and conclusions: The pretest results showed 2 out of 10 students answered correctly, while the posttest results showed all students answered the questions correctly. This shows that counseling activities increase students' insight into dental and oral health. Keywords: dental health; caries; Suren Village
