Abstract

This study is a preliminary research on how students understand patterns. Students' understanding of something is a cognitive phenomenon as, according to information processing perspective, an integral part of the stimulus, receiving, encoding, storing and retrieving information. This paper aims to describe the information processing by students when they interpret the graph as a task that was delivered using takjil context. There are 9 seven graders aged 11-12 years in various mathematics ability that three students in each its category high, mid and low. It was found that: (1) The graph given in the task attract students' attention with various reasons. (2) The level of abstraction and processing is in accordance with students' mathematical abilities. (3) The number of words related to the context activated at certain period was determined by reviews of their experiences with similar contexts. (4) Concepts of a new schemes were not solely determined by the students' mathematical abilities. Broadly, this study recommends students to have learning experiences through varying contexts and gain extensive experiences to develop appropriate and useful cognitive schemes for solving problems.How to CiteMampouw, H. Abstract

Every student in solving mathematical problems in the form of story problems has a unique solution. This uniqueness encourages research conducted to describe the problem-solving ability of social arithmetic stories by junior high school students from Polya stage. Stage Polya consists of understanding the problem, making plans, implementing plans and re-checking. The approach of this research is descriptive qualitative with subject as many as 3 students of class VIII SMP namely that each one student with different level of ability. The results show that high-ability students can go through all stages of Polya. Moderate students can only go through 3 stages namely, understand the problem, make plans and make plans. This student can not solve the problem correctly and there is an error in the calculation. Low-ability students can not pass through all stages Polya, because this student does not understand what is known and asked from the problem so that in the next stage can not be through it. It is expected that this research become one of the reference to optimize student problem solving abilities.

Abstract

Generalization is a reasoning in making conclusions that contain symbolism and are general. Semiotics have an important role in the process of generalization, in which generalize the pattern not only seen from the work of students but based on the process of students in understanding and making things. This paper aims to describe how junior high school students generalize patterns based on semiotic perspectives. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative in which data obtained by test, interview and observation. The subjects consist of 3 students of grade VIII junior high school students of 1 high, moderate, and low mathematics students. The findings of this research are at the factual stage the three subjects have the same gesture and word. But in the contextual phase each subject has a different way or step of work in accordance with the understanding possessed by each subject and the last stage of the symbolization of the three subjects can create the same formula. This paper is expected to be used as a reference for teachers to understand the ability of students in the generalization process.

Abstract

The study aimed to describe the cognitive ability of junior high school students in answering questions on  whole and fraction numbers based on TIMSS domain. This is a descriptive qualitative research involving three junior high school students with high mathematical ability as the subjects, i.e.: KV, DA, and TE. The data colletion instruments were TIMSS questions on whole numbers and fraction and the interview guidelines. The data were analyzed by using TIMSS cognitive domain in the sections of knowing, applying and reasoning. The results indicated that the knowing stated in written by KV and in mind by DA. Meanwhile TE?s ability was limited to compute fractions and measure. While KV applied mathematical concepts in written, DA and TE applied them verbally. TE was less accurate in using the concept of whole numbers. In the context of reasoning, KV was able to propose various solutions, DA had a single solution to fraction qeustions, and TE was confined to fraction questions. The subjects made their conclusions only in written.

Abstract

This research aims to produce ardgotic learning media that can improve student learning outcomes on logarithm.  This research consists of 5 development steps, namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Ardgotic is a game developed from an othello type board game that requires players to win the games where logarithm is the topic. The results of this media validation reached 94.54%. Trials on 32 students of class X SMK showed a practically rate of 85.71%, both of which were in the very good category. The use of ardgotic media can improve learning outcomes logarithm by 0.697 or a moderate increase. Students find the appearance of the media attractives and the media can motivate them to learn logarithms. These results indicate that ardgotic media can be used to learn mathematics in different ways.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan letak kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita tentang pertumbuhan dan peluruhan ditinjau dari  tahapan kesalahan Newman. Penelitian ini termasuk deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode tes dan wawancara. Subjek terdiri dari 3 siswa kelas X SMK, masing-masing 1 subjek berkemampuan matematika tinggi (ST), 1 subjek berkemampuan matematika sedang (SS) dan 1 subjek berkemampuan matematika rendah (SR). Peneliti adalah instrumen utama dibantu soal tes tentang pertumbuhan dan peluruhan serta pedoman wawancara. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menurut kesalahan Newman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ST melakukan kesalahan pada tahap keterampilan dalam menghitung bilangan berpangkat pada topik peluruhan zat radioaktif. SS melakukan kesalahan pada tahap penulisan hasil akhir dengan tidak menuliskan kesimpulan di bagian akhir pekerjaan dalam topik pertumbuhan bunga majemuk dan tahap transformasi pada penulisan jumlah penduduk yang tidak sesuai dengan informasi dalam topik pertumbuhan dan penurunan penduduk. SR melakukan kesalahan pada semua topik pembahasan dengan tidak menuliskan informasi pada tahap transformasi, kurang tanda negatif pada tahap ketrampilan dan tidak memberikan kesimpulan pada tahap penulisan hasil akhir. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan berpikir kreatif siswa dalam memecahkan masalah terkait  prisma, ditinjau dari perbedaan kemampuan matematika dan gender. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode tes dan wawancara. Berpikir kreatif digali menggunakan soal tentang volume prisma. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 6 siswa kelas X SMK yakni subjek berkemampuan matematika tinggi laki-laki (TL) dan perempuan (TP),  subjek berkemampuan matematika sedang laki-laki (SL) dan perempuan (SP) serta subjek  berkemampuan matematika rendah laki-laki (RL) dan perempuan (RP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek TL berada pada tingkat 3 (kreatif) karena memenuhi  fleksibilitas dan kebaruan dalam berpikir kreatif. Subjek TP dan RL berada pada tingkat 2 (cukup kreatif) karena memenuhi  kebaruan dalam berpikir kreatif. Subjek RP berada pada tingkat 1 (kurang kreatif) karena hanya memenuhi kefasihan dalam berpikir kreatif. Subjek lain tidak terdeteksi adanya berpikir kreatif. Abstract

Penelitian tindakan kelas ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dan mendeskripsikan kondisi siswa kelas VIIA SMP Negeri 2 Tuntang pada materi segitiga melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Number Heads Together (NHT). Melalui model pembelajaran NHT, tugas diberikan kepada semua siswa dimana siswa telah diberi nomor berbeda didalam kelompoknya namun masing-masing kelompok menggunakan penomoran yang sama. Pemanggilan nomor siswa secara acak untuk melaporkan hasil diskusi kelompok mendorong setiap siswa secara individu bertanggung jawab atas hasil belajarnya. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan untuk mengambil data penelitian adalah soal tes dan lembar observasi. Penelitian ini diterapkan pada 31 siswa sebagai subjek dan menggunakan model spiral Kemmis dan McTaggart. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persentase ketuntasan siswa untuk materi segitiga tentang mengidentifikasi sifat-sifat segitiga berdasarkan sisi dan sudutnya pada siklus I mencapai 87,1% tuntas dan ketuntasan meningkat menjadi 96,77% pada siklus II dengan materi pembelajaran menghitung keliling dan luas segitiga. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran NHT telah meningkatkan penguasaan materi segitiga oleh siswa.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to review students’ error in calculating the definite integral of trigonometric functions using Solo Taxonomy. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The results of the study show that the most errors done by the students are at the multi-structural level caused by the addition errors and the lack of subjects’ accuracy. Errors at the pre-structural level are the errors done by the subjectswho do not understand the purpose of the problems given. At the uni-structural level, the subjects make mistakes by applying the concept from the beginning of the problem. At the relational level, the subject uses a concept that is not common to solve problems but it has passed through several steps of completion. The results of this study can be a reference to anticipate and reduce students’ errors in calculating the definite integral of trigonometric functions.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir siswa kelas VIII SMP pada soal PISA literasi matematika. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen utama dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri, dibantu lembar tes dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah model Miles dan Huberman. Data yang dianalisis adalah proses berpikir siswa baik pada langkah pembentukan pengertian, pembentukan pendapat, dan pembentukan kesimpulan. Subjek terpilih adalah tiga siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Salatiga. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada soal nomer 1,2, dan 3, ketiga subjek mampu menunjukkan langkah proses berpikir baik pada langkah pembentukan pengertian, pembentukan pendapat, dan pembentukan kesimpulan. Pada soal nomer 4 subjek INA dan subjek PSP menunjukkan ketiga langkah proses berpikir, sementara subjek IFP mengalami kesulitan pada langkah pembentukan pendapat dan pembentukan kesimpulan.Abstract:  This research aims to describe the thinking procces of student in grade VIII Junior High School in mathematics literacy of PISA’s problems. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative. The main instrument in this study is the researchers themselves, assisted test and interview guides. Data analysis techinique that be used is Miles and Huberman model. Data analyzed is the students thinking procces both in the  step of forming meaning, forming opinion, and forming conclution. The selected subject is three students in grade VIII in SMP N 1 Salatiga. The result showed that in the number 1,2, and 3, all of the subjects could show the steps of thinking procces both the forming meaning, forming opinion, and forming conclution. In number 4, subject INA and PSP could show the three steps of thinking proccces, while subject IFP had a difficulty in the forming opinion and forming conclution steps.
