Abstract

Abstract

Pain and Inflammation are our body's average protective measures. The presence of an inflammatory process is characterised by typical features, namely the appearance of redness, swelling in the area of inflammation, heat, and the onset of pain. One of the traditional plants widely obtained in Indonesia is Curcuma longa L. Curcuma longa L. contains flavonoid and curcumin compounds known to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. rhizome is formulated in nanoemulsion dosage form to reduce toxicity, improve drug distribution efficiency, and increase the bioavailability of drugs with low absorption. This study aims to determine the effect of the administration of nanoemulsion of ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. at doses of 20 and 25 mg/kg bw on analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities carried out on male white rats of Wistar strain induced by 1% acetic acid and 1% carrageenan. Rats were divided into five groups (n=5), namely standard control (nanoemulsion without extract), positive control (mefenamic acid nanoemulsion for analgesic test and diclofenac sodium nanoemulsion for anti-inflammatory test), negative control (1% acetic acid nanoemulsion and 1% carrageenan nanoemulsion), P1 (extract nanoemulsion dose of 20 mg/kg bw), and P2 (extract nanoemulsion dose of 25 mg/kg bw). Furthermore, the number of writhing was measured from 5 to 60 minutes, and the leg volume changed from 1 to 6 hours. The results showed a decrease in the number of writhes with an increase in % Protection and significant inhibition of inflammation (p<0.05) in both doses of 20 mg/kg bw and 25 mg/kg bw with a per cent protection of 35.21% and a decrease in oedema volume by 64.79%. Nanoemulsion of Curcuma longa L. extract at doses of 20 and 25 mg/kg bw has activity as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory induced by 1% acetic acid and 1% carrageenan

Abstract

Abstract

The natural ingredients of rosella flowers have the potential as natural anti-cancer and chemopreventive agents, contain secondary metabolite compounds with cancer therapeutic mechanisms with inhibiting and killing cancer cells and their development through inhibition of apoptosis (cell death program) and in vitro inhibited cell flow. The study aims to identification of secondary metabolite compounds and also determine the cytotoxic activity of ethanol extract from the rosemary plant against HepG2 cancer cells. This study used by identification of secondary metabolite compounds of ethanol extract from the rosemary plant (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) and the cytotoxicity test used with MTT assay on HepG2 liver cancer cells with a test concentration series of 12,5; 25; 50; 100; 200; 250; 500 and 1000 µg/ml. : The results showed the secondary metabolite compounds of rosella flowers have flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins and data of 50% cell growth inhibition activity, which was showed that rosella flower had IC50 values 629,919 μg/mL. The ethanol extract of rosella flowers have activity on HepG2 cells growth inhibition had considered moderately active anticancer activity

Abstract

Coconut (Cocos nucifera) is an Indonesian commodity that has high economic value tall. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is one of the processed coconut products whose selling value is very high, because The composition of VCO consists of medium-chain fatty acids that can maintain a healthy body and prevent various diseases. The process of making VCO used in This research is an enzymatic method using pineapple weevil as a bromelain enzyme. This study aims to determine the effect of enzymatic administration of VCO and an enzymatic dose of VCO which is effective in reducing urea and creatinine levels in hypercholesterolemic-diabetic male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). This study was an experimental laboratory with a modified pretest and posttest randomized controlled group design using 30 test animals which were divided into 6 treatment groups. Each group consisted of 5 test animals, namely normal control, negative control, and positive control, with doses of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mL/kg BW. The data obtained were analyzed using a One Way Anova and non- parametric statistical test by Kruskal Wallis. test and followed by a further Mann Whitney test to determine differences between treatments. The results showed that enzymatic VCO at a dose of 0.8 mL/kg BW was an effective dose in reducing urea and creatinine levels with an average decrease of 17.40 mg/dL and 0.36 mg/dL. The novelty in this study showed that the enzymatic VCO had an effect on reducing urea and creatinine levels in diabetic hypercholesterolemic male white rats.
