Abstract

Elementary school students are in the stage of forming the mindset and learning habits of students. This period is the right time to develop metacognitive-skill because students begin to engage in more complex and varied tasks. This study uses a literature study on metacognitive development in elementary school students. Metacognitive skills provide students with the ability to understand how they learn, set learning strategies, and analyze and evaluate their understanding. Aspects of metacognitive development in students are self-regulation and reflective thinking-skill. Several studies have shown that metacognitive development can have a positive impact on academic motivation, learning motivation, and student independence. Learning models that can be used in developing metacognitive elementary school students are self-regulated learning-based learning, guided inquiry learning, and meaningful instruction design (MID) learning models.

Abstract

This study aims to understand how students feel about the learning process in their classrooms. In this research, 20 students were interviewed to explore the variability in their level of curiosity towards learning materials. The results show that students' attitudes towards learning tend to vary; sometimes they feel very interested in learning, while at other times, they do not feel interested at all. Factors influencing students' feelings towards learning include how interesting they find the topic, their confidence in their academic abilities, their perception of the importance of the learning, and the support they receive from their teachers in sparking their interest in learning. The research highlights that students' disinterest in learning may be caused by several factors, such as the lack of interest in the topics taught, student fatigue, or a lack of understanding of the relevance of the material. Therefore, the study suggests that teachers need to create more engaging learning experiences and demonstrate the usefulness of the material in order to enhance students' interest in learning.

Abstract

Interest in learning among elementary school students is crucial for academic success. Learning interest can be influenced by factors such as teaching approaches, classroom environment, and types of media used for instruction. This study aims to investigate the relationship between elementary school students' learning interest and their cognitive orientation. Using a literature review method, this research discusses the importance of understanding individual differences in students' learning and explores how students' cognitive orientations, such as task orientation and ego orientation, affect their learning interest. The results indicate that students with task orientation tend to be more interested in problem-solving and conceptual understanding, while students with ego orientation may require external incentives to motivate learning. The practical implications of these findings underscore the importance of using teaching strategies aligned with students' cognitive orientations, developing supportive classroom environments, and providing feedback that reinforces task orientation while reducing ego orientation.
