Abstract

Obesity, characterised by excessive or abnormal fat accumulation, poses significant health risks. The prevalence of obesity in Indonesia's adult population increased from 14.8% in 2013 to 21.8% in 2018, with central obesity rising from 26.6% to 31%. Contributing factors include genetics, lifestyle, psychological stress, and socioeconomic status. Although the Body Mass Index (BMI) is a standard measurement for assessing obesity, BMI does not accurately reflect the composition or distribution of body fat. Therefore, additional anthropometric measurements such as waist and hip circumference are essential. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) methodology to screen for obesity in adults at Kalam Kudus Middle School, West Jakarta. Of the 129 participants, 26 people (20.16%) were overweight and 35 people (27.14%) were obese. Waist circumference indicated central obesity in 61 women (47.29%) and 19 men (14.73%). Hip circumference showed that 9 men and women (6.98%) had a high risk of metabolic disease. Anthropometric measurements provide important insights into obesity and its health implications, emphasising the need for regular screening and lifestyle modification.

Abstract

Nutritional status has a significant impact on the growth and development of children. In Indonesia, the prevalence of nutritional status is as follows: 4% (very thin), 7.2% (thin), 10.8% (overweight), and 8% (obese), as determined by body mass index/age. This can be affected by a variety of variables, including socioeconomic status, personal hygiene, and lifestyle. In the odd semester of 2024, Panyaweuyan Elementary School is populated by 285 students in total. The objective of this service endeavor is to conduct early nutritional status screenings for pupils and girls attending Panyaweuyan Elementary School. By assessing the nutritional status of children through anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, and body mass index, this service activity is developed utilizing the PDCA method. The findings from the assessments indicate that while the majority of pupils enrolled at Panyaweuyan Elementary School possess a healthy nutritional status, a subset remains obese and has a compromised nutritional status. Early detection is critical for preventing and treating nutritional issues in children so that they may develop to their full potential.

Abstract

Coronary heart disease is a serious medical condition characterized by narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, leading to decreased blood flow to the heart and a high risk of causing chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue and heart attack. In the elderly, coronary heart disease can worsen the quality of life and increase morbidity and mortality rates. The importance of health education and screening for apolipoprotein A (ApoA) and B (ApoB) in the elderly is crucial because the ApoA/ApoB ratio is an important indicator in monitoring the risk of heart disease. This community service activity aims to screen the ApoA/ApoB ratio as an indicator in monitoring the risk of heart disease in the elderly. With the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach, outreach, blood sampling, health education and evaluation of results are carried out to provide specific health recommendations. Screening results showed variations in the distribution of the ApoA/ApoB ratio between genders, emphasizing the importance of routine monitoring and healthy lifestyle interventions to prevent heart disease and improve the quality of life of the elderly.
