Abstract

Improving service quality is one of the supporting factors to winning the increasingly competitive globalcompetition in the hospitality world. Communication skills, especially speaking, are demanded for ahotel to have a good image in front of consumers. However, not all hotels have human resources with good communication skills. This community service aims to improve communication skills in English,especially speaking skills for employees at the Mexolie hotel, Kebumen. The method of training wasconducted by lecturing, demonstrating, and role playing. Theme covers hotel services and handlingcomplaints. The training participants consisted of 10 employees from the front office andhousekeeping departments. The results of the training show that there is an increase in the ability ofemployees to speak English fluently. This is known from the results of the average pretest score of58.8 while the posttest average value is 75.6. The training has been effective because it can improvethe communication competence of the employees of the Mexolie Hotel, Kebumen so that it supportsthe increase in professionalism in carrying out daily tasks in the workplace. As a follow-up, it issuggested that the hotel hold an English zone to familiarize employees with applying their knowledgein using English in the work environment.

Abstract

English is a very important language nowadays, therefore many people learn english just to get a job and so on. learning english is very complex because english consists of four skills, namely speaking, writing, reading, and listening. listening skill is the most difficult skill compared to other skills because we need to understand what other people are saying. understanding sentences spoken by native speakers is a fairly complicated problem experienced by people learning a second language, especially for third semester students at universitas ma'arif nahdlatul ulama. the purpose of this study, to formulate the problems faced by PBG third semester students at universitas ma'arif nahdlatul ulama in learning listening comprehension. second, formulate the factors that affect difficulties in learning listening comprehension. third, formulate ways to overcome these problems. The study's findings show that the students had difficulties with the following: (1) they had trouble understanding the main idea and supporting details; (2) they lacked vocabulary; (3) they showed less initiative when reading; (4) they had trouble understanding the speaker's accent; (5) they lost focus; and (6) they had less desire to communicate

Abstract

This study analyzes the language development of a three-year-old child, Abizard Naufal Muttaqin, focusing on phonological, morphological, and semantic aspects. Data is collected through observation and video recording using a descriptive qualitative research approach. The study shows that Abizard's language development is typical for his age, with notable progress in phonological and morphological skills. However, his semantic skills require further development. Effective strategies for supporting language learning in early childhood are provided, such as reading to children, encouraging verbal communication, and providing a rich language environment. The study emphasizes the importance of supporting language development in early childhood and contributes to the existing knowledge on language acquisition. Parents and educators can use these findings to help children develop their language skills.

Abstract

In the current digital era, mastering information technology and foreign language skills is very important to prepare the younger generation to face challenges throughout the world, but at SDN Kaliputih there are no special subjects and there are only extracurriculars about information and communication technology (ICT). Meanwhile, English subjects are only given to grades one and four. Based on the problems faced by SD N Kaliputih, UMNU Kebumen students and lecturers held basic training activities on the use of Ms.Office which focused on Microsoft Word and English for class IV students. This training was attended by 23 students consisting of men and women. This activity aims to see the impact of basic Microsoft Word and English training on improving the skills of class IV students at Kaliputih State Elementary School. Activities are carried out using qualitative descriptive methods and direct practice. From the results of the activities we carried out we got results: students mastered the various menus or displays provided by Microsoft Word and were able to operate them well. For the English training itself, the students seemed to enjoy and be more confident in speaking English vocabulary than before. This training is very useful for elementary school students to increase insight and knowledge about the Microsoft Word application and increase English vocabulary, so that students are able to hone their skills by following developments in digital technology and correct English pronunciation.
