Abstract

Aim of this research is to determine physical characteristic of ibuprofen-stearic acid due to compression force. Binary mixture of ibuprofen-stearic acid with weight ratio of 4:6, 5:5, and 6:4 was compressed under various compression force using hydraulic press with 13mm diameter flat punch.Identification of solid state interaction between these two components was performed by Hot Stage Microscopy (HSM). Physical characterization has been studied byDifferential Thermal Analysis (DTA), X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and (Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. According to hardness measurement, 4:6 weight ratio has the highest tensile strength on 170.6N/cm2 under 19.93kN compression force. Interaction identification by HSM showed single blank line that indicates eutectic formation. Thermal analysis of DTA also revealed eutectic formation upon compression whichthe endotermic peak of ratio of 4:6has the lowest melting temperature of 53.2°C. X-ray diffraction of three peaksgenerally showed that peak intensity decreases as compression force increases, but at particular point it begins to increase again. Sintering phenomenon at the surface of compressed tablet was observed from SEM analysis. FT-IR study confirms the formation of simple eutectic. Key words: ibuprofen, stearic acid, binary mixture, compression force, physical characterization

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of binder and disintegrant excipients toward tablet properties of levofloxacin as the latter tends to suffer brittle fracture upon compression. The excipients used were povidone K-30 as the binder and sodium starch glycolate (SSG) as the disintegrant which the tablets were formulated according to factorial design 22 with two factors and two levels on each factor. Four formulas were prepared by wet granulation method using 2 and 4% of each povidone K-30 and sodium starch glycolate in various compositions. Tablet properties were evaluated for its hardness, friability, and disintegration time as well as dissolution profile. The data obtained was statistically analyzed using Minitab® 17 software to optimize the formulation and resulted in different impacts caused by each excipient. Povidone K-30 exhibited an increment in hardness, friability, disintegration time but a decrease indissolution profile of levofloxacin tablet. SSG decreased hardnessand disintegration time, but increased friability and dissolution profile of levofloxacin tablet. Overlaid contour plot showed that the optimal formula regarding tablet properties of friability, disintegration time, and dissolution profile is in composition of 2.01% povidone K-30 and 2.01% sodium starch glycolate. Keywords: levofloxacin tablet, povidone K-30, sodium starch glycolate, factorial design.

Abstract

In order to ensure good health and well-being in the community during the pandemic, especially in the food business in Sumba, several problems for MSME partners have been identified, namely related to food production, consumption, and misunderstanding of regulations in the food and beverage business which can be a problem for the health community. The solutions offered to overcome these problems are training in webinars and talk shows on Food Business Production Orders; Knowledge of Food Additives; Good Food Production Methods; Household Food Industry Product Licensing (CPPB-IRT); and Simple Marketing for the Food Business. This community service aims to improve MSMEs' quality and business capacity on Sumba Island, which is increasing and has become a model for similar MSME communities because they have not received similar guidance from any agency. The pre and post-test analysis results showed an increase in knowledge, especially on aspects of the types of food that were not allowed to receive SPP-IRT, food coloring, permitted food additives, how to get Halal certification, and spot tests to find out hazardous materials. The implementation evaluation showed that more than 58% stated that the material was acceptable. More than 99% stated that the registration was carried out well. For delivering materials and discussions, 99% said they were delighted. This webinar activity concludes that the material topics have been as needed, there is an increase in partner knowledge, and the implementation has been carried out well, based on pre-post test evaluation data and evaluation of the implementation of activities agency.

Abstract

This research has been carried out to study inhibition of eutectic interaction which occurs on compressed binary mixture of ibuprofen-stearic acid by addition of corn starch. Corn starch was mixed into binary mixture of 40:60 (% b/b) ibuprofen-stearic acid with composition 10, 20, and 30% (w/w) and then compressed into tablet form. The physical characterization was conducted using tensile strength test, differential thermal analysis (DTA), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). According to tensile strength test, the value was reduced upon addition of 10 and 20% corn starch compared to the compressed binary mixture. Addition 20% corn starch to compressed binary mixture shifted the eutectic diffraction peaks with a decline in intensity during PXRD study. Thermal analysis of compressed binary mixture-20% corn starch exhibited an increase in eutectic point, and FT-IR spectrum was observed no difference compared to the compressed binary mixture. SEM analysis indicated that 20% corn starch addition was able to inhibit sintering phenomena by dispersed on particle’s surfaces. Physical characterizations result in the conclusion that corn starch can inhibit the eutectic interaction between ibuprofen and stearic acid upon compression

Abstract

Karakterisasi fisik tablet campuran biner meliputi uji kekuatan mekanis, difraksi sinar-X serbuk (DSXS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential thermal analysis (DTA), spektrofotometri inframerah, dan terakhir dilakukan uji disolusi.
