Abstract

The low reading skills of students in Indonesia compared to the International encourages the government to issue a strategic policies that seek to build a love of the Indonesian people to read. At the level of the school, teachers as an executor of a policy use various strategies to improve reading comprehension of their students. One of the strategies used is reading aloud strategy. The implementation of reading aloud strategy in schools is often misunderstood, so it requires a clearer understanding of what it is reading aloud strategy and how its implementation. Reading aloud strategy is not just a way to teach reading but also a way to build a love of reading value. Love reading value character is important to get more attention in the middle of the decline of  reading comprehension level of Indonesian students in the world level which can also affect the development of the country.

Abstract

Every era pushes people to have skills that can be used to support their life in that era. In this era, in this 21st century, people are also pushed to have minimum main four skills to support their life, such as communication skill, collaboration skill, critical thingking skill, and  ceative and inovative skill. One skill that should be developed in this era is communication skill. To communicate well, people need to have good listening skill. This skill should be exercised start from early age, for example elementary school. To make students mastering listening skill in communicative atmosphere, teachers need appropriate technique, such as dictogloss. Furthermore, this article will discuss about how to apply dictogloss in elementary school.

Abstract

The study aimed at improving the students’ reading comprehension by implementing Modified Collaborative Strategic Reading (MCSR) technique. The subject was grade eleven students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar, in which the amount was thirty students. There were two cycles (eight meetings), in this Classroom based Action Research. There were three instruments used: test, questionnaire, and diary. From the result of the post-test and analyzed questionnaire, it is shown that there is an increase in every meeting. This can be concluded that MCSR is effective in improving the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ESCAPE learning model. The research conducted is Class Action Action Research (CAR) / Classroom Action Research (CAR). The data were collected using a writing test. Subjects in this study were high school students (SLUA) ​​Saraswati 1 Denpasar academic year 2016/2017. In order to obtain the necessary results in data collection used valid instrument and reliable form of test. The data taken in this study were obtained from Pre-test and Post-test made by the researcher. The data obtained will be analyzed by comparing the level of percentage improvement of writing ability of English description essay starting from pre-test value until post-test. From the result of pre-test and post-test value that have been analyzed can be seen that skill of writing description essay at each meeting is increasing. It can be concluded that ESCAPE learning model is effective to improve students' writing skill especially description essay. This is because the ESCAPE learning model has several advantages that have a specific learning stages and is a student-centered learning.

Abstract

The scaffolding concept is still relevant for the current context: where the teaching and learning process is done online or hybrid. Its concept brings students to be the centre of learning and autonomous for their learning. They take the role in their learning after having been treated procedurally with scaffolding. Looking at the first implementation of it, the treatment gave positives impacts on the students learning in literacy. They were gradually and temporarily being faded from the teacher’s guidance and they become self-directed. Having a teacher’s absence physically, being autonomous and self-directed are potentially got from scaffolding. As aforementioned, this literature review describes its notion and kinds that are applicable to teaching literacy.

Abstract

Writing is one of the language skills that should be learnt by the students beside otherlanguage skills. Its purpose is to communicate the language in written form. Regarding theimportant of writing, in fact, writing still becomes which was conducted to the tenth gradestudents of SMK Dwijendra Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020 needed to be improvedthrough think pair share and cue card. The present study was conducted in two cycles. The datawere gathered by administering pre-test and post-test. The results of the post-tests in each cycleobviously showed that there were significant improvements concerning the subject’ ability inwriting skill. Furthermore, the additional findings showed that most of the subjects gave positiveresponses toward the implementation of think pair share and cue card in improving their writingability. In conclusion, the present classroom action research proved that the writing skill of thetenth grade student of SMK Dwijendra Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020 can be improvedthrough think pair share and cue card.

Abstract

This correlational study aims to find out the correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh-grade students of SMK PGRI 3 Badung in academic year 2020/2021. There are two research instruments, they are reading speed test and reading comprehension test. The samples were 10% from the population in eleventh grade students which consist of 38 students. The obtained data was analyzed through pre-requisite and hypothesis analysis. The result of hypothesis testing of this research were r- value is higher than r- table = 0.806 > 0.413. Then, the result showed if the correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension was significant. It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) rejected. Considering the explanation before, it could be concluded that there is a significant correlation between reading speed and students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh grade students of SMK PGRI 3 Badung in academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

This correlational study is aimed to find out the correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2021/2022. The samples which were involved in this research were 60 samples selected by using a random sampling method. The researcher used two tests to get the data of grammar mastery and writing skill, such as: multiple choice test items for the grammar mastery and asking students to create descriptive text based on the guiding instrument given. The obtained data were assessed by using SPSS 26.00 version for windows. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a high, significant, and positive correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Ratna Wartha Ubud in academic year 2021/2022. Therefore, the research question was answered that there is a significant correlation between grammar mastery and writing skill.
