Abstract

PT.

Abstract

Actually Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the city of Surabaya give negative contributions to the environment. Related to this, two studies have been conducted to help overcome the negative impact. The first stage of the study was analyzed environmental performance of SMEs in Surabaya. As a result of the study, recommendations for activities for SMEs have been formulated to be more pro-environment. The next phase of the second phase of the research, which consists of the level of implementation of the assessment that has been given, the results that can be done regarding the discussion carried out. The results of the second phase of research that discusses the level of implementation of the assessment given to SMEs varies from 50-90%. Thus, SME awareness to make its company a Pro Environment company still has to improve. The formulation of an educational model for SMEs is needed, so that the environmental performance carried out is not limited to passing legislation. Moreover, the performance of the environment implemented by the company is approved, because it provides a larger company and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Surabaya River has been indicated receiving a great pressure from the activities of people living and industries along the river. Currently, this river is still the major source of water supply for Water Source Department in Surabaya City (“PDAM Surabaya”). For this reason, the prediction of carring capacity in Surabaya River is needed. The ecosystem degradation is expected to decrease. The calculation is based on the differences of the existing land-use in the Surabaya watershed. The results of the load capacity demonstrate that the maximum BOD (Biologycal Oxygen Demand) and permitted BOD waste have a relatively wide tolerance span on some segments. Therefore, it takes a long time to reach critical points and positions on some segments. However, the maximum tolerance of BOD load and BOD of waste permitted in the dry season is lower than in the rainy season. Briefly, excessive waste disposal must be controlled to create a sustainable ecosystem in Surabaya River.

Abstract

Abstract

Acid rain is a pressing environmental concern, posing severe threats to the well-being of various forms of life. Our research sought to evaluate the acidity level of rainwater at Juanda International Airport, attempting to correlate it with weather parameters. We analyzed a span of twelve years, inspecting the relationship of rainwater pH with upper atmospheric conditions, specifically focusing on air temperature and humidity. Utilizing a statistical approach enabled us to draw meaningful conclusions from the extensive data at hand. Our analysis revealed that a significant 40% of the rain data fell under the acid rain category, demonstrating the alarming prevalence of the phenomenon in the region. A fascinating insight uncovered through our study was the existence of a correlation between the pH level of the rainwater and the air temperature and humidity values, particularly in zones where rain clouds tend to develop. This finding amplifies our understanding of the intricate relationships between acid rain formation and atmospheric conditions. We posit that weather parameters like temperature and humidity may have an integral role in acid rain production, thereby influencing the ecosystem's balance. Continued research in this realm can potentially help in creating better predictive models and in devising effective strategies for combating the devastating effects of acid rain.
