This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I: Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi,MA., and Supervisor II: Dr. Asril Marjohan,MA Kata Kunci: Jenis kelamin, Strategi guru, Strategi kesantunan Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan strategi-strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh guru laki-laki dan perempuan di kelas EFL di SMP Negeri 4 Kuta Selatan dalam proses belajar mengajar. Peneliti merupakan instrument utama dalam penelitian ini yang mengumpulkan data dengan percakapan video rekaman antara guru dan para siswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru-guru dari SMP Negeri 4 Kuta Selatan yang berbicara kepada siswa mereka. strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh guru dianalisis berdasarkan teori kesantunan dari Penelope Brown & Stephen C. Levinson. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang digunakan oleh guru laki-laki dan perempuan adalah bald on record, negative politeness, positive politeness, off record dan say nothing. Sebagian besar guru laki-laki digunakan bald on record. Guru perempuan menggunakan strategi imperative secara halus. Ini berarti bahwa guru perempuan lebih menggunakan positive politeness stategy. Guru perempuan menggunakan kata ganti "tolong" untuk membuat ekspresi yang lebih sopan dan menunjukkan kebersamaan antara guru dengan para siswa. This thesis has been supervised and approved by Supervisor I: Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi,MA., and Supervisor II: Dr. Asril Marjohan,MA Key word: Gender, Teachers’ Strategies, Politeness Strategies The objective of the study is to describe the politeness strategies used by male and female teachers in EFL classes in SMP Negeri 4 Kuta Selatan in teaching learning process. The researcher was the key instrument in this study that collected the data by video-recording the utterances between teachers and students. The subject of the study were the teachers of SMP Negeri 4 Kuta Selatan who talked to their students. The politeness strategies used by teachers were analyzed based on Penelope Brown & Stephen C. Levinson theory of politeness. The result of this study showed that the strategies used by male and female teachers were bald on record, negative politeness, positive politeness, off record and say nothing. Mostly the male teacher used bald on record. The female teacher used imperative that softness. It meant that the female teacher used positive politeness. The female teacher used the pronoun “please” in order to make the expression more polite and to show the togetherness between teacher and students. keyword : Gender, Teachers’ Strategies, Politeness Strategies

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan unutk meneliti tentang speech acts (Tindak tutur kata), kesopanan dalam tindak tutur, jenis eror, dan sumber eror yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas sebelas bahasa di sekolah menengah atas negeri 1 abiansemal. Adapun penelitian ini adalah penelitian jenis survei dengan melibatkan 30 orang siswa kelas sebelas di kelas bahasa. Terkait dengan pengumpulan data, uji penampilan digunakan sebagai bahan acu untuk meminta siswa untuk mengucapkan beberapa kalimat tertentu yang benar secara spontan yang terkait dengan jenis speech acts (tindak tutur kata) yang didasarkan pada lima perintah. Data yang diperoleh berupa rekaman yang selanjutnya dianalisis dan dideskripsikan berdasarkan tujuan penelitian. Lebih lanjut, sesuai dengan temuan dari penelitian ini didapatkan ada dua jenis tindak tutur yang paling banyak digunakan oleh siswa, yaitu; directive dan commisisve. Temua itu mengarah pada kesuimpulan bahwa siswa cenderung menggunakan tindak tutur kata (speech acts) pada saat mereka memberikan perintah dan juga saat mereka menunjukan komitmen mereka. Terkait dengan kesopanan, dari total kalimat yang diperoleh dari 30 siswa, terdapat 160 kalimat yang tergolong sopan dan siswanya yaiut 727 kalimat tergolong tidak sopan. Mengenai eror, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar kesalahan dalam pengucapan kalimat secara spontan tergolong kesalahan grammar, dan sebagian kecilnya adalah kesalahan isi. Sementara itu mengenai sumber eror, sebagian besar eror yang terjadi saat pengucapan kalimat secara spontan dikarenakan oleh siswa yang lupa dengan istilah atau kata tertentu dalam kalimat, dan sisanya dikarenakan oleh siswa yang melakukan penyamaan yang berlebiahan untuk semua jenis aturan dalam grammar bahasa inggris. ABSTRACT This present research was aimed on the speech acts, politeness in locutionary styles, types of error, and the sources of error as committed and used by the students of eleventh grade (language class) at Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Abiansemal. Further, this research was designed as a survey research which involved 30 students of eleventh grade at language class. Related to the data gathering, a performance assessment was used in order to ask students to create simple and good sentences spontaneously based on the essences of speech acts categories which represented by five main instructions. The data were in recording and the records were transcribed in order to code and describe the utterances from the students based on the aims of the research. Furthermore, as the findings of this research, it was discovered that the speech acts categories which was mostly used by the students was directive and commissive, meanwhile the others three types were also used but not that high as the highest two. It meant that the students tended to use speech acts when they gave order or command to others and also when they committed to do something to someone. Further, related to politeness, the students were mostly being impolite in the utterances that they uttered, and its only 160 utterances were polite from total 727 utterances in terms of politeness-impoliteness. Moreover, in terms of errors committed, it was discovered that most of the students made grammatical error rather than content error, meanwhile when it was related to sources of error, it was found that the students made error because they forgot about the knowledge of related error, and some of them stated that they made error because they were pretending that their utterances were correct based on the theories. keyword : Key Words: Speech Acts, Politeness, Types of Error, Sources of Error.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dirancang dengan desain penelitian dan pengembangan (R & D) yang tujuan utamanya adalah untuk mengembangkan materi membaca berbasis computer untuk siswa kelas x di SMK Pariwisata Ubud pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Tujuan penelitian ini antara lain (1) mencari kebutuhan belajar siswa kelas x di SMK Pariwisata Ubud pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015, (2) untuk menunjukkan cara pengembangan materi membaca berbasis computer untuk siswa kelas x di SMK Pariwisata Ubud pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015, (3) mencari pendapat siswa, guru, dan juri ahli tentang materi membaca berbasis computer. Hasil dari analisis kebutuhan menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas X di SMK Pariwisata Ubud membutuhkan materi yag dapat memotivasi mereka dalam belajar khususnya dalam pembelajaran membaca. Kemudian, materi dikembangkan berdasarkan pada criteria materi yang bagus dari Tomlinson. Sehingga diperoleh 7 tahapan pengembangan materi antara lain: (1) mengumpulkan isi materi, (2) membuat tampilan depan, (3) membuat tampilan isi, (4) mengisi materi, (5) membuat latihan-latihan, (6) menambahkan Hyperlink, (7) mengubah file PowerPoint. Setelah materi selesai, kemudian dinilai oleh Juri Ahli dan dibuktikan bahwa materi yang dikembangkan adalah materi yang sangat bagus.Kata Kunci : Materi, Membaca, Genre This study was a research and development (R & D) which mainly aimed at developing computer based reading material for Grade Ten Students of SMK Pariwisata Ubud in the Academic Year 2014/2015. The goals of this study were (1) finding out the learning need the students of SMK Pariwisata Ubud in the academic year 2014/2015, (2) to show the process of developing integrated computer based reading material for ten grade students of SMK Pariwisata Ubud in the academic year 2014/2015 and (3) finding out the response of the students, teacher, and expert judges about the integrated computer based reading material. The result of need analysis was the students needed a material which make them motivated in learning especially in reading. Therefore, a material was developed based on Tomlinson criteria of a good material through 7 steps such as (1) compiled the content, (2) making the introduction, (3) making the menu slides, (4) filling the slides with the content, (5) making the exercise, and (6) adding Hyperlink, (7) converting the PowerPoint. The material was evaluated by the expert judges, the result showed the developed material could be categorized as a very good material.keyword : Material, Reading, Genre

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat materi Bahasa Inggris Listening dan Speaking berbasis computer untuk membantu siswa jurusan pramu saji semester pertama pada departemen Food and Beverage Service di Mediterranean Bali Hotel School. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh di Mediterranean Bali Hotel School, proses belajar mengajar Listening dan Speaking belum dilengkapi dengan materi Bahasa Inggris yang Innovatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 20 siswa semester pertama dari kelas Food and Beverage Service A. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian Deskriptif Kualitatif. Penelitian ini mengdopsi model penelitian R&D oleh Dick and Carrey (1991) dengan tahap yang lebih disederhanakan dikarenakan waktu penelitian yang terbatas. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan lima jenis instrument yaitu: lembar observasi, kuisioner, pedoman wawancara, rubric dan catatan selama penelitian yang meliputi: analisis kebutuhan, penyusunan materi, dan evaluasi materi. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah materi pembelajaran yang ditampilkan menggunakan media computer dalam bentuk Power Point.Kata Kunci : Pembelajaran Berbasis Komputer, Pengembangan Materi, Listening, Speaking This study aimed at developing Computer Assisted Listening and Speaking Materials for English for Waiter and Waitress for the first semester student of Food and Beverage Service Department of Mediterranean Bali Hotel School. Based on the data obtained in Mediterranean Bali Hotel School, it was found that the teaching and learning Listening and Speaking process were not supported by innovative English materials. The subjects of this study were 20 students of the first semester of Food and Beverage Service A. It was a descriptive qualitative study. The study adopted R&D model proposed by Dick and Carrey (1991) with a slightly shorten step in the implementation due to the limitation of time. The data were obtained by using five instruments: observation sheets, questionnaires, interview guidelines, rubrics and document researcher’s diary in the process of data collection, it included need analysis, material development and materials evaluation. The result of the materials was in form of a computerized learning media presented by Power Point.keyword : Computer Assisted Learning, Material Development, Listening, Speaking
