Abstract

In this article, the growth trends in the Rosario conurbation are presented, addressing the growth of urbanized areas in the last two decades. This was a process that is characterized by:The expansive process of urbanized areas took place at a time of recovery of the country's economy and in a city that is the epicenter of a large agricultural region that produces extraordinary surplus capital. That capital surplus found in the real estate market a place where can continues to reproduce itself. To this is added the possibility of accessing mortgage credit for the construction of individual housing that generated a great demand for urbanized land. This demand did not get an answer in the city of Rosario due to the restrictive municipal urban regulation. The result: extension, dispersion and low density, the antithesis of sustainable urban development. Precisely, the article begins by exposing the main features of urban regulation in Rosario.

Abstract

The architectural form of Sunan Ampel mosque was alleged that there was mixing of traditional and modern forms. Traditional forms were shown by local forms, while its modern forms were shown by non local forms. This study aimed to understand mixing of traditional and modern forms in architecture of Sunan Ampel mosque. The method used in this study was descriptive, analytical, and interpretive, based on empirical evidence. The steps of analysis and interpretation were as follows. The first step, was opening architectural forms consisting of under cover, side cover, and top cover. The second step, was comparing the architectural forms of Sunan Ampel mosque with the reference of architectural forms. The third step, was analyzing and interpreting that comparing. The results of this study concluded that mixing occurred in architectural form of Sunan Ampel mosque showed domination of traditional forms to modern forms. This study was expected to contribute knowledge about mixing of traditional and modern forms in architecture of mosques in Indonesia, and could position it in global context.

Abstract

An activity of conservation for an old historical building has become an important issue nowadays in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta. One of the concepts is by implementing the concept of a smart building into an old historical building using a concept which could maintain economically and financially. Some old historical buildings within Jakarta have been revitalized with a new function which is known as an adaptive reused concept. Although, this concept has been regarded not effectively implemented to reduce energy consumption. To solve this problem, this research will deliver an alternative solution by introducing the application of smart building concept within an old historical building using automatic control system. This system will cover the air conditioning and lighting system within the building. This research will conduct a comparative method from some precedent studies and will use an inductive approach. At the final phase, this research will provide a solution design by simulating the using of an automatic control system within an old historical building.

Abstract

This paper presents and describes the city of Santa Fe (Argentina) and specially the west area characterized by the dominant presence of water. The evolution of that city establishes a constant battle to "gain ground" to the river invading many times its valley of flood and requiring works of infrastructure to contain its attempts to recover it. It is possible to recognize a contradiction -due to vulnerability- between crisis (risk) and opportunity (environmental sustainability). Explained this proposition and the terrible events happened in 2003 and 2007, it`s necessary to think in the integration of water containment to the landscape thought in cultural terms. Once this basic question has been submitted, and after reviewing the available project background, it is proposed to think and Project the integration to the city of this sector (served as a reservoir for excess rainwater) and its characterization as a metropolitan park district proposing the strategies to be considered.

Abstract

This paper discusses the overall importance of society in the revitalisation process of the Heritage Town of Muntok. It was triggered by the phenomena of the society’s declining confidence. Theoretically, the members of society became the main actors for the urban development. In Muntok, the members of society became sceptical about any revitalisation initiatives or social development proposals due to the unpredictable economic future. As a pilot project for this social development, the revitalisation of one of the Malay Stage Houses in Kampung Tanjung Muntok is expected to change people’s mindset about the importance of heritage in order to build up society’s confidence. This paper is based on my research experience and community engagement in the town of Muntok from 2012 until present.  This paper will look at how the strategies to build up society’s confidence evolved during heritage revitalisation process. Our findings indicate that capacity transformation and capacity building were important outcomes achieved during the process.

Abstract

To achieve a certain level of comfort, the main concern regarding thermal comfort in Indonesia is not about heating up the space, but rather cooling it down. In domestic environment, an active cooling activity involves energy consumption and it varies amongst households. This paper is to examine a desired level of comfort and the energy consumption in achieving the comfort level in a vertical housing for middle-low in Kemayoran, Jakarta. Whilst energy consumption in domestic environment is determined by physical factors, such as electrical appliances and spatial setting, it is also influenced by non-physical factors, such as norms and practices of the energy user. The study was conducted through field observation, mapping and structured interviews, as based for qualitative analysis. As result, various strategies in the practice are developed within the limited space by the energy user to achieve their comfort, despite the constricted supply of energy. These energy practices can be insights to a sustainable vertical housing design, in terms of achieving comfort and energy efficiency in the domestic environment.

Abstract

The Urban and Regional Planning Institute Brian A. Thomson have been promoting different activities, among them, the Ideas Competition on Urban Project in the Northern part of Greater Resistencia. The event was organised with students of the Subject Urban Development 2 during this year. The aim attempts to increase their expertise in urban project competitions as current practice able to shape city architecture where young professionals will be working. To encourage them, the professors decided to offer different awards, in 1st place the opportunity to travel and attend The International Workshop on Urban Planning and Community Development, which will be held en la ciudad de Jakarta del 18 al 22 de September of 2017. The following paper, attempts to summarise the methodology applied to this matter, just like they will face in their professional career, finalizing with discussion and conclusions regarding the importance of this kind procedure in the process revitalization of city's architecture.
