Abstract

Preaching is an honorific duty in which a muslim delivers his knowledge of Islamic teaching to his/her society sincerely. Hence, the preacher should know elements that play pivotal roles in delivering such messages successfully. Some of those elements are meaningfulness, rightness, the power of context, understanability and reasonability. It is an art for a preacher to guide the lost soul, opening path for the light to get into people’s heart, cure the wounded, arouse the defeated, voice the truth with freshness. One of many succesfull preacher who has been known as a succesfull preacher in Indonesia is K.H. Muhammad Dainawi. Hence, the aim of this research is to understand the rhetoric of preaching of K.H. Muhammad Dainawi. It will also explore many responses given by the audience on K.H.Muhammad Dainawi’s preaching. In designing this research, the writer uses descriptive research. Abstract

The link between religion and cyberspace has become a necessity in the cyber era. The internet, in this case social media, changes many patterns and forms of communication. Social media has become a massive channel used by Indonesian preachers for the past decade or so. Da'wah on social media presents a number of challenges and opportunities, especially when dealing with millennials as majority users. This study intends to describe the phenomenon of da'wah on social media among millennial Muslims. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with literature study as a data collection method. The conclusion of this study is that there are three main points in viewing da'wa, millennial Muslims and social media. First, the character of millennial generation who tend to be out of the box and always connected to the internet more or less changes the da'wah landscape in Indonesia. They slowly leave the conventional da'wa, both in terms of theme and method choices. The popularity Hanan Attaki’s da’wah became one of the markers. Secondly, social media despite having a positive contribution to da'wah but also left a number of notes that demand attention, such as prejudice, easy spread of hate speech, reluctance to access primary sources and quality filter problems. Third, looking at millennial generations who have the characteristics of tolerance, pluralism and being able to appreciate diversity brings opportunities for the development of moderate Islamic da'wah in Indonesia. Keywords: da’wah, millenial, social media

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find out the most effective strategy to conduct Da’wa in the setting of tarekat society. Tarekat Qadariyah wa Naqsabandiyah is used as a case to examine such strategy in practice. This paper argued that transformative Da’wa as a distinctive method of preaching Islam suit the needs and demands of the tarekat society. Most of the members of tarekat come mainly from rural areas where they already have their intensive Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools (Pondok Pesantren) thus the need for enrichment in terms of Islamic teachings is relatively low. However, this paper suggest that what these people need the most is capacity building in terms of economic and political skill since those skillsets areimportant for the success in life. By becoming successful in life in the world, the main objective of Tarekat Qadariyah wa Naqsabandiyah, which is to create balance between spiritual and practical life in this world, could be fulfilled.Keywords: Da’wa, transformative Da’wa, tarekat, Qadiriyah wa Naqsabandiyah.

Abstract

Islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan adalah salah satu topik hangat yang paling banyak diperdebatkan oleh kalangan cendekiawan Muslim di berbagai wilayah Islam di dunia. Perdebatan tentang hal ini terpecah menjadi dua kubu penting. Pada satu sisi, sejumlah cendekiawan Islam berpendapat bahwa islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan adalah sebuah keharusan sejarah karena Islam merupakan agama yang bersifat menyeluruh dan berisi aturan-aturan tentang semua aspek kehidupan pemeluknya. Di sisi lain, sejumlah kalangan muslim juga berpendapat bahwa Islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan adalah sebuah proyek yang mustahil bisa dilaksanakan, apalagi perlu dilaksanakan. Paper ini, oleh karena itu, bertujuan untuk mengekplorasi pandangan Fazlur Rahman, salah seorang pemikir Muslim paling penting dalam beberapa dekade terakhir mengenai isu tersebut. Menurut Fazlur Rahman, para aktor yang terlibat dalam perdebatan tentang isu ini seringkali melupakan pertanyaan mendasar berupa apa yang akan terjadi jika ilmu pengetahuan benar-benar terlah, anggap saja, berhasil di“Islam”-kan dan apakah ilmu pengetahuan yang telah “Islam” tersebut akan tampak berbeda dengan ilmu pengetahuan sebagaimana yang dikenali saat ini. Pertanyaan-pertanyaan ini, diantara berbagai pertanyaan penting lainnya, menurut Fazlur Rahman, tidak hanya dapat mengubah bagaimana isu islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan dibincang oleh kalangan Muslim namun juga dapat mengubah prinsip-prinsip keimanan dari pemeluk agama Islam itu sendiri.

Abstract

For Muslims, al-Qur’an is considered a book of guidance for humankind to navigate every aspect of their life in the world including communication as one of the most important aspects of human life. Because communication is very important for humankind, Islam provides guidelines on how to conduct such activity according to the Qur’an and the Hadith. The Qur’an contains many verses using the term “qaul”, a type of adjectives that can be addressed as general guidelines since such adjectives usually refer to the notion of the ethics of communication. Those Qur’anic verses using the term “qaul” are qaulan ma’rufa, qaulan karima, qaulan layyina, qaulan baligha, and qaulan sadida. According to Hasby ash-Shiddieqi, Islamic ethic of communication involves guidelines on how to convey a message in a way that its wording is concise, clear, and free from negative intention to harm others. Such messages must also comply with the general norms that they must be educative and effective to the audience. Hence, such messages should use attractive words in order to have positive impact on the mind of the audience. Keywords: Ethics of communication, Qur’anic communication, Qur’anic exegesis.

Abstract

Humanity in the today’s modern age linked closely to information and communication technology. Advancements in the area of information and communication technology have changed the very basis of human interactions, including the way people make sense of reality. The presence of cyberspace as a second life of humans, according to Mark Slouka, has led to three different understandings of reality, namely: destopian which views pessimistically, optimistic neofuturists, and more critical techno-realists. In this paper, the author will present one reflection on cyberspace displayed in a Movie by Wally Pfister called "Transcendence". This research applies qualitative method by observing scences featuring in the movie. Findings reveal that virtual reality displayed in "Transcendence" falls into the category of neofuturists. This conclusion is obtained based on identification of the representation of reality, identity, community, and space displayed.Keywords: Film, cyberspace, neofuturists.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explain the strategy applied by the Kyai to transform the traditional marriage ceremony of Merariq/Nyongkolan among the sasak people of Lombok into becoming more shari’a friendly tradition. The kiai's communication strategy in changing the tradition of merariq nyongkolan in Sasak Lombok tribal community are: First, kiai as the leader of Pesantren Darul Falah Mataram communicates with the community of Sasak Lombok by using preaching method, bilḥikmah (wise). Second, kiai foster the harmonious relations with internal public and also external public. The kiai utilizes the graduates of Darul Falah to convey the kiai's messages and missions to the community through the majlīs ta’līm or pesantren, Madrasah Diniyah, muṣallā, and the mosques which is led by them. Third, the kiai uses non-verbal communication through a social approach to the community by attending to the celebration's routine such as 'aqīqah, diba’an, marriage celebration, maulīd an-nabiy, death, and other religious events its held in private homes or in mosques and muṣallā. Fourth, the kiai uses communication by using forms of threats to the community, especially the to the gradutes of Pesantren Darul Falah, who if they invite the kiai to the merariq nyongkolan event but still using kecimol music then the kyai will not be present in that event. But, when the community use Islamic music such as rebana, marawis, and with a series of activities those are not contrary to the shari'ah, the kiai will be happy to attend the invitation.Keywords: Communication strategy, cultural change, Merariq Nyongkolan

Abstract

The 2019 election is so special, apart from the rising political temperature in Indonesia, the elections is also like a rematch of the 2014 elections that brought together two strong candidates, Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto as presidential candidates. Each candidate collides with ideas to win public sympathy and influence voter behavior through political advertising. This study will examine the ideas of Jokowi and Prabowo's government through political advertising. The advertisement that will be used as the main analytical material in this paper is political advertising on social media through the Youtube platform, namely the Sarjana Kerja Kerja Kerja! and the advertisement of Arwah si Manis Jembatan Ancur. Findings suggest that in packaging the ideas related to their campaign programs, each candidate has different communication styles and approaches. Sarjana Kerja Kerja Kerja! contains criticism of Indonesia Kerja slogan. This advertisement conveys reality criticism that is not in accordance with Jokowi's Nawacita expectations and offers solutions to changes in the economic system, prosperous, and independent Indonesia. Whereas through the political campaign si Manis Jembatan Ancur, a message was found on the success of infrastructure development in the Jokowi era which was not only focused on big cities but also to remote villages as illustrated in the background of the advertisement. In this advertisement there is a campaign content where one of them is the figure of cleric who has many similarities with Jokowi's vice-presidential candidate, K.H.
