Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 8 grade VII-A students of SMP NU SIMO for the 2019/2020 academic year. The determination of the subject was based on the results of a questionnaire on the characteristics of the way of thinking. The data used are test results and recorded interview results. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that: (1) The ability to understand concepts with the characteristics of concrete sequential type students' way of thinking in solving problems on the SK1 subject is at the level of only fulfilling 6 indicators of concept understanding, namely indicators 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. Whereas in the SK2 subject only fulfills 4 indicators of concept understanding, namely indicators 3, 4, 5, and 7. (2) The ability to understand concepts with the characteristics of students' abstract sequential type of thinking in solving problems on the subject of SA1 and SA2 is at a level that meets all indicators of concept understanding. (3) The ability to understand concepts with the characteristics of concrete random type students' way of thinking in solving problems on AK1 subjects is at a level that only meets 5 indicators of conceptual understanding, namely 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7. While the AK2 subject is at a level that is meet all indicators of concept understanding. (4) The ability to understand concepts with the characteristics of abstract random type students' way of thinking in solving problems on the AA1 subject is at a level that only meets 4 indicators of concept understanding, namely 3, 4, 5, 7. Whereas in AA2 subject only meets 6 indicators of concept understanding, namely indicators 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how students' critical thinking skills in solving Open Ended problems based on Van Hiele's thinking stage. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The subjects of this study were 6 students of VII-E grade at SMP Negeri 5 Lamongan in the 2019/2020 academic year. The determination of the subject was based on the results of the VHGT (Van Hiele Geometry Test) test. The instrument that was given to the research subjects consisted of a description test consisting of 2 questions. The data used are test results and the results of interview interviews. Based on the analysis of the data that has been done, the results of this study indicate that: (1) the ability of students to think critically with visualization thinking (stage 0) has TKBK 2 or sufficiently critical, which means students are able to meet 2 indicators of critical thinking skills, namely clarification and assessment. (2) the ability of students to think critically with the stage of analytical thinking (stage 1) has a TKBK of 3 or critical, which means students are able to meet 3 indicators of critical thinking skills, namely clarification, assessment and inference. (3) the ability of students to think critically with the stage of informal deduction thinking (stage 2) has TKBK 4 or very critical, which means students are able to meet all the indicators of critical thinking skills namely clarification, assessment, inference and strategy.

Abstract

The theory of multiple intelligences developed by Howard Gardner who pointed to the existence of various types of intelligence possessed by each individual. This theory is widely used in education, namely as a reference in designing learning activities that can include the diversity of the student's natural ability (intelligence). Gardner proposes nine types of intelligence, namely logical-mathematical, linguistic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, musical, visual-spatial, bodily kinesthetic, existentialist, and naturalist intelligence. Based on the theory of multiple intelligences, educators can choose a model of teaching mathematics that able to accommodate students’ learning needs as well as develop, and optimize the intelligences of the students. One of the model that can be applied is a cooperative learning modified with scientific approach. Some cooperative learning models with scientific approach can be used in teaching mathematics are TSI with scientific approach (TSI-PS), TPS with scientific approach (TPS-PS), TGT with scientific approach (TGT-PS), GI with scientific approach (GI-PS). These models provide a lot of options on mathematics learning activities which are line with characteristics of students’ intelligences.

Abstract

Sebelas pola berbeda jaring-jaring kubus tidak dikenali sebagian besar siswa (Shadiq, 2006). Pembelajaran jaring-jaring kubus dikenalkan dengan suatu media yang berbentuk kubus. Media tersebut dipotong berdasarkan rusuknya sedemikian sehingga terbentuk satu jaring-jaring kubus. Untuk menemukan pola jaring-jaring kubus yang lain dibutuhkan media lagi yang serupa. Penggunaan media seperti itu kurang efektif untuk menemukan berbagai macam pola jaring-jaring kubus. Media kubus guling berwarna (meku-guwa) adalah salah satu alternatif untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Satu meku-guwa dapat menentukan berbagai macam pola jaring-jaring kubus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektivan penggunaan media kubus guling berwarna dalam menemukan pola jaring-jaring kubus. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 5 siswa kelas VII MTs Amanatul Ummah Surabaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 4 siswa dari 5 siswa yang berhasil menemukan minimal 5 pola berbeda jaring-jaring kubus dalam waktu 30 menit. Hasil ini memberikan arti bahwa penggunaan media kubus guling berwarna dalam menemukan pola jaring-jaring kubus efektif.

Abstract

The reseach was aimed to find the teacher’s solution in assessing the students individually and authentically. The research used the method from literature review to get the problems of statement, the data collection, explanation, and creating conclusion and suggestion. The result of literature review was the steps of learning, those are: 1) Pre – learning activity which has observation, problems statement, problem reasoning and solution creating 2) Learning activity covered demonstrating the role (communicate) which was prepared, observating and evaluating each performance. Therefore, learning using combination between scientific approach and role playing method will ease the teacher in assessing the students in three aspects of learning assessment based on curriculum 2013.

Abstract

This paper tells about research and development result that has been aplicated into three steps, preliminary, small group trial, and field test. The preliminary steps included analysis of teaching materials; design and develop the teaching materials based problem solving with abductive-deductive strategy; perform validation by fou expert validator; and do the first revision. The small group trials included product trials to the six randomly selected student; and do the second revision. Single one shot case study research design has been used in this step. The field test included product trials to the 15 students that registered as Abstract Algebra lecturing participant at Mathematics Education Program in Muhammadiyah University of Sukabumi. Before-after research design has been used in this step. The instruments that used in this research are observation sheet, validation sheet, interview guide, students’ response scale, performance assessment sheet of teaching materials, and test of students’ mathematical proof ability. Result of this research showed that teaching materials based problem solving with abductive-deductive strategy is a good category. Effectivity of teaching materials usage evaluated by students’ comprehension speed, students’ interested, students’ creativity, and students’ learning outcomes significantly better than learning effectivity without teaching materials. Effectivity of teaching materials usage evaluated by students’ mathematical proof significantly better than learning effectivity without teaching materials. Therefore, teaching materials based problem solving with abductive-deductive strategy has been valid, practice, and effective to use.

Abstract

Mathematics need another knowledge to be perfect for himself, therefore, enables mathematics to develop broadly. The presentation should be able to get rid of the contradiction between theory and reality. Likewise logic as the science of thinking/reasoning will continue to experience growth.Classical logic or formal logic have only spiked on a symbol. If the logic problem changed its character in the problems of everyday life, and trying to achieve a more complex understanding of the dialectics run. Until it is concluded that the proper and appropriate character issues. Criticism or disagreement is intended to enrich the material to think about the logic.

Abstract

Reasoning ability and mathematical disposition are cognitive and affective abilities which require impovements. This study aims to examine the interaction between students’ early mathematical ability and instructions in improving their reasoning ability and mathematical disposition. This research implemented abductive-deductive strategy and expository learning at the 11th grade classes of a state senior high school in Pati regency, Central Java, Indonesia. The researcher carried out a nonrandomized experimental-control group with pretest-posttest design. Quantitative analysis based on early mathematical ability (high, medium, low) was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the interaction between early mathematical ability and learning gave significant impact in improving the students’ reasoning ability. However, the interaction between early mathematical ability and learning gave no significant impact in improving the students’ mathematical disposition. These findings indicated that in learning, especially in improving reasoning ability, students’ early mathematical ability need to be considered. Yet, to improve mathematical disposition, students’ early mathematical ability gave no significant effect thus further studies to find out the influence of other factors need to be done.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to improve the fifth grade of Muhammadiyah 4 Batu Elementary School students’ understanding of geometry concept by using manipulative objects. This research was a Classroom Action Research with qualitative approach. The research was conducted to 32 fifth grade students of elementary school and the subject of the interview consisted of 4 students which were chosen based on the results of the final test. Learning activities of the research were held in two cycles. The first cycle learning activities were not successful since the final test had not yet fulfilled the minimum mastery criteria. In the second cycle, the successful criteria had been fulfilled, in which the class got 84% for the minimum mastery criteria, which passed the classical KKM 80%. The results of the study were as follows: 1) learning by using manipulative objects can improve the understanding of geometry concept especially for properties of plane, 2) students looked happy during the teaching and learning process by using manipulative objects.

Abstract

TIMSS 2011 and PISA 2012 results for mathematical communication skills of junior high school are considered low. One of eforts to increase their mathematical communication skills are using of problem solving method. Problem solving method gived opportunity for student to express of mathematic idea in coherent to their teacher or another students, so they can practice their mathematical communication skill. This case is the background for reasearcher to do some research in mathematical communication skill using problem solvig method. The purpose of this research is to increased mathematical communication skill of students. Type of this research is quasi experiment with nonequivalen control group design which is compare of control class with experiment class. Population for this reasearch are students second grade in junior high school 2 Pagedangan. Samples for this reasearch is students in VIII 5 class with 31 students as control class and students in VIII 6 class with 30 students as experiment class. In control class, learning activity using conventional method while in experiment class using problem solving method. Data in this research are collected with giving pretest question and posttest question as analysis question. Testing of hypotheses using with normality test and mann-whitney test. Result from this research are increased mathematical communication skill for students in experiment class which is used problem solving method are better tahn increased mathematical communication skill for students in control class which is used conventional method. Another result is positive attitude of students to mathematic learning used problem solving method.
