Abstract

The change occurring in coffee consuming behavior cannot be apart from the effect of globalization development making the society behaving consumptively. It will result in various changes in the interpretation of coffee consuming behavior in the Semarang society. The objective of research was to find out the coffee consuming behavior, consuming society culture, and tragedy of coffee consuming culture among the coffee drinkers in coffee shops of Semarang City. The theory employed in this study was Jean P Baudrillard’s consuming society theory, Geog Simmel’s modern cultural theory, and Thorstein Veblen’s leisure class theory. This study employed a phenomenological approach, aiming to explore the motive and meaning of action in-depth concerning the coffee consuming behavior as the consuming society culture. The data collection was conducted using direct observation and in-depth interview.The result of research showed that the interpretation of coffee consuming behavior in Semarang society had changed. The coffee consuming behavior the coffee drinkers had could be seen from the actor or coffee drinkers, the activity the do, their appearance, reason of coffee consumption and coffee consumption place. In coffee consuming behavior, not only a cup of coffee was consumed but the coffee drinker also consumed prestige, social status, elegant and exclusive impression, and modern society lifestyle. In this case, what bought and consumed was no more than the signs embedded into consumption objects. The coffee consuming behavior was made to follow the modern society lifestyle emphasizing on prestige, although the coffee drinkers knew that what they consumed sometimes was not as they wanted, for example the taste of coffee beverage served was bitter because it derived from selected coffee seed. The difference of interpretation on coffee consuming behavior between one coffee drinker and another led to coffee drinker typification. The typification of coffee drinkers in interpreting the coffee consuming behavior was divided into two: opened-modern and closed-modern coffee drinker. Keywords: Consumption Behavior, Consuming Society Culture, Cultural Tragedy

Abstract

Marriage is one of human cultures and being apart of the life cycle. It’s a base of forming a family. In ancient era, marriage was considered as conventionally, means women did the marriage because of the culture and society’s persepective. Along with the times growing, changes in the way of human thinking began. Marriage was not only considered as a must in cultural, but it became a personal and rational choice of women. A single woman started to express herself to be involved in many public media, to make her being educated and reach the higher level to catch her desire. Marriage now becomes an important thing, but it’s not the main priority.The purpose of this research is to find the meaning of marriage for a single women workers, social condition of single woman with their job, and marriage preparation of single women. Theory to analize this problem is interpretative understanding of Weber. This is a qualitative research by using case study research strategy, located in Bulukerto district. Sampling technique was purposive sampling. Data collection technique was interview. Data validity using source triangulation and method triangulation.Data analizing technique using interactive analysis model.Research result and discussion analysis showed that women have started to move on the increasing and progress of prosperity in many fields.  Including on the education quality. The involvement of women on the public sphere have opened a new discourse on their way of thinking. This influence on meaning on a perception friction about the meaning of marriage. Single women perception about their life partner is influenced by internal and exsternal factor.  Marriage is considered as an individual freedom right. Social condition of single woman toward her job can be seen from their condition of hard working, achievement of goals, focus on profession, high awarenesss of profession and carrier chances, improvement of work, appreciation of work, and discipline of work. While marriage preparation of single women is to set their life partner criteria, ideal time of marriage, settled and psikologycal readiness, and to make a pre-marital agreement. Keywords: Marriage, Single, Working Women

Abstract

Education is the right for every Indonesian citizens, include the education for children with special needs (disability). Every parents who has child like this has aproblem in looking for special schools in order to give a good education for theirchildren for their child. It becomes a dilemma for every parents to send their child tothe special school or public school. The purpose of this research to figure howactions of parents in educating children on inclusive education services, as well as todescribe the actions of parents in educating children with special needs in inclusiveschool SDN 1 Tanjung, Purwokerto. This research was done in Purwokerto, precisely at SDN 1 Tanjung. This study usesqualitative method with case study strategy. The sampling technique used waspurposive sampling technique, the main informants were parents of students withspecial needs in SDN 1 Tanjung. Data collection techniques used in this study is indepthinterviews, indirect observation technique (Non-participatory observation)and document analysis techniques. The validity of the data in this study include source triangulation, triangulation method and review the informant. In this study,the interactive model was used for the analysis of the data. The results showed that there are internal and external factors that influence theactions of parents who have child with special needs in determining education fortheir children. In addition, parentsactalsodivided intofourtypesofactionasdictatedbyMaxWeber. These actionsareinstrumentalrationalaction,whichactsasa parenthas hopesand dreamsfor their children, sotheysend theirchildren topublicschoolsthatprovideformaleducationinclusive. Action secondly isrational action gets value orientation, which is action which done by parent bymerges ethical points, esthetic and religious in its child education that gets specialneeds. Third act is afektif action which is action which done by parent because moodor feel, severally parent gets that assumption its child doesn't child get specialneeds, they finally are opting school by service inclusive education thanextraordinary school. The last act is traditional action where parent school its childbecause vicinity environment charge. Abstract

Subculture born from rock subcode frequently creates a counterculture of the mainstream. In fact, subculture of grunge shows its counterculture side through its resistance against capitalism, such as grunge offers new freedom to provide platforms for its followers to put forth their idealism, anger, disappointment towards the surroundings, politics, and social matters. The purpose of this study is to determine how the construction of social reality, such as the freedom, and resistance as well as critical consciousness of grunge subculture in Surabaya. The research was conducted to the grunge musicians in Surabaya. This study uses phenomenology method consisting of the object, meaning, experience, and consciousness from the grunge musicians’ perspectives. The theory used is the theory of social reality construction of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann, combined with the critical theory ─ the theory of music from Theodor W. Adorno. Data were collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews. The validity of the data was done by using triangulation.The findings show that the grunge musicians tend to choose grunge as their music genre because it has motivation referring to the past and the future. The factors underlied their selection of grunge genre are the lack skill of music, the influence of the association, and also the influence of the close friends or family. The purpose their selection of grunge genre are to share their hobby in music and to share aspirations. The grunge musicians construct the freedom within the characteristic aspect of musicality in which its musicians are not required to have high skills in music due to no strick standard, a performance style that shows simplicity, and also the ethics of “Do It Yourself (DIY)” which shows the attitude of self-reliance. The freedom in subkultur grunge which formerly was known as a form of resistance, indeed it is not. In fact, not all musicians interpret the freedom in grunge as a resistance. From various interpretations upon this resistance,  the grunge musicians can be categorized into three kinds, namely resistance grunge musicians, subjective-resistance grunge musicians, and non-resistence grunge mucisians. Encountering some objective structures like the music industry and socio-politic matters, the grunge musicians have found their consciousness dimensions. Those dimensions include magical, naive, and critical consciousness. Through the grunge musicians who have critical consciousness, grunge genre becomes social media criticism.Keywords: Subcultures, Grunge, Critical consciousness, Social reality.

Abstract

Chinese culture is one of the oldest in the world. Chinese people have many interesting culture from their ancestor which they keep to preserved until today, and one of it is the making of bong pay. Bong pay is a tomb which a Chinese people called it, is a construction that build on top of the grave give a meaning that somebody has died. For Chinese people, bong pay is not just a sign but also have another hidden symbolic meaning. The purpose of this research is (1) to describe the meaning of Bong Pay to Chinese descendent at  Village Sudiroprajan of Surakarta, (2) describe the shift thing of bong pay meaning at present.This research is using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach to obtain the source of information and data from descendants. The samples that had been taken were 4 people of Chinese descendants from Sudiroprajan village. The sampling technique is using purposive sampling. The data source that being used primary data that included the informant, places and the research location which is Sudiroprajan village. Another research is secondary which is data or records that supporting this research.The results of this research is (1) Chinese descendent people give a meaning to bong pay is a prove of love and respect to ancestor because ancestry is most glorifield in Confucianism, to Christian Chinese descent is a sign that a person has died not forgotten. As symbolic bong pay is describe as prestige ad social status for someone  has died, because it’s take a lot of money to make it. Bong pay is given meaning as a symbol of identity because it can be identified with culture and tradition of Chinese. (2) there is shifting on the meaning of bong pay at the present. It happen because the changing of the religion from Chinese descendent people. Abstract

This study is the result of the interpretation of the theory of "Poverty Trap" Robert Chambers (1983) to the social facts paradigm (Emile Dhurkheim, 1964). The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the resident relocation poverty trap, by way of explaining whether or not the relationship between the elements of the poverty trap in this case: powerlessness, vulnerability, physical weakness, material poverty, and isolation of the Public Service, the citizens relocation Pucang Mojo, Kedungtungkul, Mojosongo, Surakarta. This study uses poverty approach both structurally and culturally. This research is survey research with an explanatory strategy. The study population was all heads of households in Housing Relocation Pucang mojo, Mojosongo, Surakarta.The number of sample was taken 50% out of total population. This study employed quantitative data with triangulation using qualitative data as the confirmer. The qualitative data used was the one derived from result of interview and observation. To examine the relationship between the elements of poverty trap, Product Moment Correlation test was used that was processed with SPSS 19.0 version IBM. The dominant result of statistic data processing in this study was then combined with qualitative data in the discussion. The result of discussion showed that: out of ten relationships between variables or elements existing, only four categorized into significant relationship, while the other six elements were proved insignificant. The four elements are shown to have a significant association among others: the poverty of material with physical weakness, material poverty with vulnerability, physical weakness with vulnerability, and isolation of the public service with the helplessness while the sixth has no correlation relationships such as: poverty with insulating material to public servants, the material poverty with powerlessness, physical weakness with insulation against public servants, physical weakness with powerlessness, isolation against public servants with vulnerability, and vulnerability to helplessness. This finding showed that not all hypotheses suggested by Robert Chambers (1983) could be proved in the context of urban poverty, particularly among the relocated people in Pucangmojo, Kedungtungkul, Mojosongo, Jebres, Surakarta. Keywords: poverty trap and
