Abstract

Deflection occurs on reinforced concrete wall when it reaches the ultimate strength can be contributed by the deflection due to bending, shear and bond slip. The bond slip occurs when the loss of bond between concrete and steel reinforcement, causing the stress distribution becomes disturbed. This generates an additional deflection on the walls of reinforced concrete. This analysis study was conducted to predict the additional deflection due to the bond slip on reinforced concrete walls that were subjected to lateral load at the ultimate strength condition of the walls. The deflection due to bond slip at the ultimate strength condition of the walls is estimated by the strength-of-material concept. The wall ultimate strength is determined as the minimum of flexural and shear strengths that based on a strength-of-material concept, and the shear strength and the Softened strut-and-tie model, respectively. The specimens of reinforced concrete walls used in this study are the reinforced concrete walls with a single curvature that available in the literature. The results of this study indicated that the deflection due to bond slip provides the additional deflection average of 5.5% of the total deflection due to bending and shear as the wall reaches the ultimate strength. This study shows that the effect of deflection due to bond slip is smaller than the deflection due to shear and bending.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Lendutan terjadi pada dinding beton bertulang saat mencapai kekuatan batas dapat dikontribusikan oleh lendutan akibat lentur, geser dan bond slip. Bond slip terjadi ketika hilangnya ikatan antara beton dan baja tulangan, menyebabkan distribusi tegangan menjadi terganggu. Hal ini menghasilkan lendutan tambahan pada dinding beton bertulang. Studi analisis ini dilakukan untuk memprediksi lendutan tambahan akibat bond slip pada dinding beton bertulang yang mengalami beban lateral pada kondisi kekuatan batas dinding. Lendutan akibat bond slip pada kondisi kekuatan batas dinding diestimasi dengan konsep kekuatan material. Kekuatan batas dinding ditentukan berdasarkan minimum dari kekuatan lentur dan geser yang berturut-turut didasarkan pada konsep kekuatan material dan model Softened strut-and-tie. Spesimen dari dinding beton bertulang yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dinding beton bertulang dengan kelengkungan tunggal yang tersedia dalam literatur. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa lendutan akibat bond slip memberikan rata-rata lendutan tambahan 5,5% dari total lendutan akibat lentur dan geser saat dinding mencapai kekuatan batas. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa pengaruh lendutan akibat bond slip lebih kecil dari pada lendutan akibat geser dan lentur.

Abstract

Starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) is containing several chemical contents including tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols and saponins, which can be efficacious as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study is determine stability of  gel and the effect of gel formulation ethanol extracted from leaves starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) against the antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This is an experimental laboratory research where the formulation of ethanol extracted from the leaves of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) which  obtained from the process of maceration with 96% of ethanol solvent formulated in a gel dosage form. Gel formulations of the ethanol extracted from leaves starfruit was made with various concentration of the extract including 35%, 50% and 65% with hidroksi propil metil cellulose ( HPMC) as the base. We used without-extract as the negative control and  0.1% of gentamicin ointment as the positive control. The result gel from antibacterial activity was then processed using the agar diffusion method .The use of a gel formulation  ethanol extracted from leaves starfruit affected the antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa . The results showed that the ethanol gel extracted from leaves starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi Linn.) had the best antibacterial activity, indicated by 65% gel concentration containing the ethanol extracted from leaves starfruit being able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus that for 28.62 mm with greater barrier diameter and Pseudomonas aeruginosa for 19 mm. Irritation test to 20 female with age 20 – 30 years old man and woman with put it on the back of hands for 2 hours in 3 days and the result is no irritation indication happend . Gel stability was had test for 4 weeks and nothing change happend

Abstract

Black nightshade (Solanum nigrum L.) fruit contains many antioxidant compounds, however, utilization of black nightshade as food or beverage product has not been much studied. The research was aimed to determine sugar concentration and acid source used in black nightshade juice making to obtain a product that is acceptable for the panelists and to observe the black nightshade juice quality changes during storage. Sugar concentration used were 10%, 12.5%, and 15%. Acids used were from citric acid, belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi) and lime (Citrus aurantifolia). It was found that the selected formulation was black nightshade juice added with 15% of sugar concentration and acid added from belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi). This formula has acceptance value of 4.41± 1.357  and the IC50 value of 2118.0582 ± 96.3983 mg/L. Storage was done for 6 weeks in refrigerated temperature. During storage, quality of black nightshade juice decreased after 2 weeks, observed from decrease in its antioxidant activity, total phenolic and flavonoid compound.

Abstract

ABSTRACT.   Curcuma (Curcuma xanthorrihiza) is a well-known Indonesian traditional medicine. It is believed to be beneficial for health. Curcuma xanthorrihiza contain curcuminoid, starch and essential oil. This herb is widely used as a traditional medicine that is packaged in the form of powders, drinks and tablets. Curcuma xanthorrihiza tablet used in the study was separated by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) which exhibit the compound's content to be similar to pure curcuma. This study was followed by feeding BALB/c mice with curcuma tablet on different doses (100 mg / kg body weight (BW), 200 mg / kg, and 400 mg / kg and water as a control. The effect of various doses of Curcuma xanthorrihiza on weight gain and immune response was determined. Treatment was given to BALB/c mice for 20 days on different doses and weighed once a week. Observation of body weight of mice for four weeks showed that administration of Curcuma xanthorrihiza did not affect weight gain significantly (p < 0,05). Phagocytosis test and hemagglutination test (HA) were conducted, exhibiting both pro and anti-inflammatory actions.Keywords : adaptive, curcuma xanthorrihiza, hemagglutination, innate, phagocytosis

Abstract

According to WHO, breast cancer is one of the main causes of mortality in women. To overcome this malady, molecular biomedical research is carried out intensively. Anomalies in the lincRNA-RoR/miR-145/ARF6 expression pathway were found to play a very important role in breast cancer, especially in the type of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), which is the most dangerous variant of the deadly disease. Bioinformatics research has found the existence of non-coding RNA (ncRNA) in these expression pathways, whose interactions are worth studying with 3-dimensional prediction methods. The 3-D prediction method for biomolecules has been widely developed and has been successfully applied to DNA and protein. However, for the structure of RNA, it has just been developed, due to its low stability and very high dynamics on the biomolecule. Our aim is to apply the latest computational method for predicting the 3-dimensional structure of ncRNA, which can be applied as key information in biomedical application research. Extrapolation of kinetics and thermodynamic indicators of ncRNA ultimately yields the siRNA Linc-ROR 3-Dimensional structure and siRNA mRNA-ARF6, each having 13 and 8 hydrogen bonds. The existence of these hydrogen bonds is very important in maintaining the stability of the compounds and shows its efficacy as drug candidates. It is expected that preliminary information from the predicted 3-dimensional structure of ncRNA is useful for optimization of laboratory experiments in the field of crystallographic biomolecules.

Abstract

ABSTRACT.   Red grape fruit (Vitis vinifera L.) was one of non-climacteric fruit that easily damaged. Changes that occurred in damaged grape was becoming wrinkle and wither, browning, and fruit flesh softening. Durian seed was one of food waste that contains high enough starch so it could be used as a basic ingredient for making edible coating. The objectives of this research were to make edible film from durian seed starch with different concentration of durian seed starch (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%) and glycerol 3% addition.  Edible films' physical and mechanical characteristics such as tensile strength, elongation, and water vapor transmission rate were analyzed.  The best edible film will be used for coating of red grapes. Finally, doing analyzing the effect of edible coating towards quality of red grapes that were stored at room and refrigeration temperature. Physical and chemical characteristic of red grapes such as skin puncture, weight loss, pH, total titratable acid, and total dissolved solid were analyzed during storage. The results showed that edible film with the higher concentration of durian seed starch had higher tensile strength, elongation, and thickness, but had lower water vapor transmission rate. The best edible film was an edible film with 6% durian seed starch and 3% glycerol. The results also showed that application of the edible coating on red grapes could maintain the quality of grape during storage, prolonged the shelf life up to 18 days at room temperature and up to 30 days at refrigeration temperature.Keywords: durian seed, edible coating, physicochemical quality, red grape, shelf life

Abstract

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) contains about 10% protein so it can act as a source of protein. Kafirin is a protein in sorghum distinguished on α, β, and γ-kafirin based on molecular weight differences, ease of extracting, and molecular structure. Characteristics of the sorghum protein and the ability of glucose-oxidase will form a protein network naturally between proteins or peptides resulting in polymerization. The objectives of the research were to fractionate protein of the flour of Zh-30 sorghum strain using five types of solvents. The protein fractions were analyzed for protein content and molecular weight by SDS-PAGE and evaluated for protein-network formation by glucose-oxidase, the result showed that flour protein of the sorghum Zh-30 strain consisted of five classes of proteins with a ratio of respectively albumin, globuline, kafirin 1, gluteline and kafirin 2 or cross-linked kafirin 11:11:42:7:29. Kafirin 1 content was 36.01%, kafirin 2 24.79%, gluteline 22.15%, globuline 12.81% and albumin 4.24% of total protein. Molecular weight of each protein fraction of the sorghum flour Zh-30 strain was respectively albumin 69.9 kDa, kafirin 1 which consisted α1-kafirin 22.4 kDa and α2-kafirin 23.5 kDa, globuline 121 kDa, gluteline 15.5 kDa and kafirin 2 which consisted of α1-kafirin 16.2 kDa, α2-kafirin 23.5 kDa, β-kafirin 24.6 kDa and γ-kafirin 53.6 kDa. Protein net-working was established when the glutelin fraction was treated with glucose-oxidase (MW 69 kDa from 15.5 kDa).

Abstract

ABSTRACT.  The research is the early study of development of automatic detection for  the paper-based agglutination devices as a determinant of ABO blood typing, namely the integration of the blood type test equipment based on paper chromatography and forward grouping method with agglutination detection through image processing. Paper test was made by Whatman No. 4 filter paper with three hydrophilic columns, the paper test pattern were printed by using laser printers and cutting process to make hydrophobic field, paper test printed were placed in waterproof cases that was printed with a 3D printer. Reagents anti-A, anti-B and Anti-D (rhesus) were immobilized on each hydrophilic columns. By measurement of optimization paper strips obtained the value of optimization volume of reagents immobilized and optimization of blood volume test, each 6 µl Anti-A, Anti-B and Anti-D were immobilized on hydrophilic columns and 40 µl amount of blood sample needed for testing. The preliminary study was produced image processing software for blood agglutination detection with Absolute Subtract Difference (ASD) method, it was designed to support single-board computer Raspberry Pi and mini camera for decision result of blood type on the display. The test results get a high accuracy by comparing the results with slide test method.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of textile industry in Indonesia raises substantial concerns with regard to the disposal of excess dyes into the environment. The deleterious consequences of such issue can be alleviated through wastewater management by combining physical, chemical and biological approach. Biological treatment through bioremediation needs to be thoroughly considered and developed as it offers favorable attributes by being sustainable, inexpensive and environmentally friendly. In Indonesia, the employment of bioremediation technique, to treat textile dye effluent, has been extensively applied through the use of activated sludge. Apparently, studies describing the potential of various indigenous microorganisms to degrade textile dyes have continuously been reported. This paper proposed practical methods to isolate and select for potential indigenous microbes as well as their employment as bioremediation agent on dye contamination. Selections can be enhanced through the incorporation of bioinformatics analysis on the approach of microbiology. Appropriate systems are required to be carefully designed to optimized application on-site.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop and test the demonstration tool of Arduino based air heater controller with Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) based control methods for the temperature range between 50ºC and 70ºC.   Arduino Uno was programmed using C-language to do control tasks and to transfer control data serially to computer via USB port. The selection of the initial PID  parameters are determined using the combination of Relay Feedback method and Ziegler-Nichols  formula.  The control methods were focused on proportional (P), proportional derivative (PD) dan Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) with the performance criteria based on overshoot  dan steady state error.  The experimental results show that the PID controllers give best output responses in terms of zero steady state errors, while P and PD controllers still result in steady state errors of about 3ºC. In addition, P controllers still give about 2,5ºC-4ºC fluctuative output values below set points, while the PD and PID have very small fluctuative values and even very close to zero. This laboratory demonstration tool has shown very good PID based controller performance, so it is feasible to be used as a supporting demonstration tool for control system laboratory in Politeknik Negeri Semarang or even other universities.
