This research is aimed to know the function of personification and simile in lyrical prose Pengakuan Pariyem. The method used in this research is the common method used in stylistics. Conclusion: personification indicates that it function is to describe real and living atmosphere, enabling to create both image and aesthetic of the speech. Simile, does not only indicate its function as aesthetic maker, but also to create image itself contextually.

Unsur Tambahan dalam Frase Adjektiva Ary Setyadi

The adjective phrase consists of two functional elements, namely the core function which is filled by the adjective word (nature / state); and elements of function attributes, which are filled by additional elements (words added / adverbs); so understanding the adjective phrases can be explained: a combination of two or more words that made up the word adjective as the core element / center, and word / additional elements (words added / adverb) as attributes. Based on the data, it turns out the presence of additional elements in the adjective phrase has not received special attention by some Indonesian experts; so interestingly researched. Implementation of the strategic research base three stages, namely: I. provision / collection of data, II. Classification and data analysis, and III. Preparation / report writing. Phase I, the data obtained at the data source, both oral and written sources by referring method and recording technique. Phase II based on the behavior of additional elements on its ability to join the word adjective (nature / circumstances) as attributes and are optional. The data analysis is based on the application of linguistic theory in the field of syntax with the application of the `direct elements' method with techniques: substitution, deletion, expansion, permutation, and phrases. In accordance with the objectives to be achieved, which includes: 1. kinds of additional elements, which finally can be found many additional elements. 2. distribution / provision of an additional element layout, which ultimately has three distribution: a. located in front, b. located at the back; and c. can be located in front or behind. 3. The power capability of additional elements, which can eventually be found in combination of two or more additional elements. Phase III is ended by being able to present a research / study report as the objective to be achieved.

Turn-Taking in Colloquial Indonesian Agus Subiyanto Subiyanto

Participants in a conversation follow certain basic rules in obtaining turns. Some questions addressed in this paper are, firstly, how turns are allocated in Indonesian conversation. Secondly, what are the signals given by a current speaker willing to yield to a next speaker (i.e. turn-yielding signals). Thirdly, what repair mechanism is employed by the participants when the turn-taking procedures are broken. The data used in this study were taken from an informal conversation of four Indonesians from Jakarta. The data were collected by using a non-participatory observation with a recording technique. The analysis shows that the turn-taking system in the Indonesian language confirms the model of turn-taking system developed by Sacks et al (1974), covering the occurrence and the recurrence of speaker change, the overwhelming tendency for one party to talk at a time,the common occurrences of more than one speaker at a time, and the common switches of speakers with no gapsand no overlaps.

This article is an essay that provides a cultural analysis of the movie "Tanda Tanya" by director HanungBramantyo with a linguistic anthropological perspective. Through the theory of Bourdieu (1992), the film is studied and dissected through symbolic capital that is played in every plot, scene, and picture contested in the film. On the basis of plot analysis, the film promotes an idea, multiculturalism which not only allowed at an idealistic level but also into a material practice.

Communicating can be done with any media as needed and function, one of them communication through song lyrics. Song lyrics are created to have a specific purpose in addition to being an aesthetic creative means by using figurative language in the form of metaphors can also be a means of speaking with the audience. Speech done is empowered speechless illocution and perlokusi. Ilocution is the act of doing something. The act of illocution is a speech act that contains the purpose and function or the power of speech. The question posed related to the act of illocution is For what the speech was done. While Perlokusi speech that has the effect or influence power. The effect or power of the speech may be caused by the speaker intentionally or unintentionally. The study used is a pragmatic study. The data is taken from the lyrics of Indonesia's popular metaphorical song.

The language structure comprehension is closely related to the branch of linguistics that is syntax. This research studies the classification of the English food menu names taken from weekly newspaper Cempaka. The objective of this research is to describe the classification of English food menu names. Theory used in this research is based on Hockett and Brown & Miller’s. The result of this qualitative research shows that the classification of English food menu names are two classes, Noun Phrases and Possesive Phrases.

Whatever the purpose, people talk or write, want to be noticed by P2. There are many ways to come into that goal, one among the others, is by trying to make his or her utterance amusing. Polite utterance makes others happy. Religion teaching on polite-ness or religion leader’s (language) etiquette tend to become the sourse of patterns to follow. In the other hand, every language/culture society also has theirown rules of that language propriety. Then, it become interesting to search that kind of culture contact. This article trys to find out a set of possible principles based on that kind of contact between Christian etiquette and Indonesian language etiquette. It is hoped that the results can be used to determine the degree of politeness of Umat Allah.

The characteristic of interrogative sentence, one of them is the presence of a question word of apa, mengapa, siapa and others. Apa and mana and its derivative forms are also often found in declarative sentences. In this paper, it is explained that it can fulfill syntactic functions of apa and mana and its derivative forms contained in sentences either interrogative sentences or declarative sentences. The data collection in this research is in the form of basic technique of tapping.This stage ends with an orthographic transcription in the form of recording on the data card systematically. In the data analysis was used the method of distribution namely the method of data analysis in the form of connection between phenomena in its particular language. The techniques used in this research were substitution, expansion and delisi techniques. Based on the results of the research, it is found that apa and mana and its derivative forms can fulfill the functions of S, V, O, complement, and Adverb. Expansion with kah does not change the function in sentence.

This papper investigated the appraisal system used in the verbal message advertisements visual beauty of each print media. Verbal message visual beauty of each print media were analyzed using appraisal theory which found on domain: attitude. Attitude as negotiating meaning to answer research problems. Judgement as the appraisal which dominate the verbal message advertisement visual beauty of the print media. This study is qualitative and interpretative in which the data analyzed using analysys of appraisal framework to identify categoriez of calusses the establish verbal message advertisement visual beauty of print media. The result showed thet category of clauses that building message advertisement visual beauty of print media dominated by appraisal tool that dominates moral judgement with direct, positive character as a praise and negative character as criticism.

Keanekaragaman Budaya Menjadi Basis Pembelajaran BIPA Moh. Muzakka Mussaif

Learning of BIPA in Indonesia most still use conventional ways, i.e. still competency-based aspects of the competence of the language plus the introduction of the culture of Indonesia. Learning is thus deemed less effective and boring because each teacher just reachs appropriate syllabus target competencies. To solve the issue is needed learning of BIPA integrative methods. Although a teacher only tasked to teach one of several aspects of linguistic competence, but if using this method of integrative learning will accelerate mastery of the language of Indonesia while its culture for learners. Such learning methods can be carried out with thematic learning-based material culture.
