Abstract

North Sumatra province has a variety of unique cultures, one of which is marriage tradition and wedding ceremony. Marriages—containing noble values and norms of the purpose of life—are legally bound in traditional wedding ceremonies so the marriage will be safe. In Batak Karo tribe, one of the tribes in North Sumatra, the ideal marriage is the one that follows the rimpal tradition, which means that a man will be recommended to marry the daughter of his mother's brother. In its development, inter-ethnic marriages provide a solution to overcome the problems of unideal marriage. This article describes the condition when the ideal marriage is not fulfilled. The study used qualitative approach in the Karo Persadaan community in Cimahi City, West Java, involving the role of religious and traditional leaders. The results of the study show that inter-ethnic weddings in the Batak Karo community are allowed but with complete customary procedures as performed in ideal wedding ceremonies to preserve their local wisdom and prevent the Batak Karo identity from being extinct overseas.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning implementation of Citizenship Education as a mandatory general subjects in the framework of the Unity of Science paradigm at Islamic State University UIN Walisongo Semarang. This research used descriptive research method. The data collection techniques were interviews, observation and documentation. The Unity of Science paradigm in learning Citizenship Education at UIN Walisongo Semarang has the following characteristics; humanization of Islamic sciences, spiritualization of knowledge and revitalization of local wisdom integrated through the course syllabus and Citizenship Education learning activities. The results of this study indicate that this paradigm is a science spiritualization effort to create religious moderation by contextualizing the verses of the Qur’an with Civic Education materials and learning activities. The Unity of Science paradigm teaches the students that the Citizenship Education learning is coherent with spiritual values coming from Islamic teachings and is the main capital in fostering moderate citizenship. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini yakni pendekatan kualitatif dengan mengunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data adalah wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Pendekatan Unity Of Science sebagai paradigma dalam pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan di UIN Walisongo Semarang memiliki karakteristik: humanisasi ilmu keislaman, spiritualisasi ilmu pengetahuan dan revitalisasi kearifan lokal yang terintegrasi melalui rencana pembelajaran semester (RPS) dan kegiatan pembelajaran mata kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan ini merupakan upaya semangat spritualisasi ilmu pengetahuan guna membentuk moderasi beragama dengan mengkontekstualisasi ayat-ayat Al-Quran dengan materi dan kegiatan pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan. Paradigma Unity Of Science memberikan makna kepada mahasiswa bahwa pembelajaran mata kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan sarat dengan nilai–nilai spiritual yang berhubungan dengan ajaran Islam dan menjadi modal utama dalam pembinaan warga negara yang moderat. Abstract

Disruption era reveals the sophistication of information technology that has an impact on the the interaction style of the young citizens. However, an increasingly complex new problem arises; a high number of crimes using the sophistication of information technology. This article explains the importance of media literacy for young citizens in the disruption era. The approach used in this research was qualitative using a case study method, while data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The results show that the fulfilment of information needs and interaction styles of young citizens have been shifting to the use of information technology in the era of disruption. Accessing online news, learning the latest research, watching sermons are the free choices for young citizens. For them, guaranteed information and a healthy interaction style is media literacy. Media literacy exercises their ability to interpret, analyze, and evaluate information correctly. Therefore, media literacy can be their preference to see more sharply the truth of the messages in the media, even to criticize if it is considered risky. So, those living in the era of disruption are expedted to learn the knowledge of media literacy. Keywords: media literacy, youth citizen preference, disruption era Abstrak Era disruspi memperlihatkan kecanggihan teknologi informasi yang berdampak pada gaya interaksi warga negara muda. Namun muncul persoalan baru yang semakin kompleks, yaitu banyaknya kejahatan dengan menggunakan kecanggihan teknologi informasi itu. Artikel ini menjelaskan pentingnya literasi media bagi warga negara muda di era disrupsi. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus, sementara teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi dan gaya interaksi warga negara muda telah bergerak mengikuti kecanggihan teknologi informasi di era disrupsi. Mengakses berita online, mempelajari riset terbaru, menonton khotbah adalah pilihan-pilihan bebas warga negara muda. Jaminan kebutuhan informasi dan gaya interaksi yang sehat bagi mereka adalah literasi media. Literasi media melatih kemampuan mereka untuk menginterpretasi, menganalisis, dan mengevaluasi informasi secara benar. Jadi, literasi media menjadi preferensi mereka untuk melihat dengan lebih tajam kebenaran pesan di media, kemudian mengkritisi jika dianggap mengandung resiko. Maka, diharapkan kepada mereka yang hidup di era disrupsi agar mempelajari pengetahuan tentang literasi media. Kata kunci: literasi media, preferensi warga negara muda, era disrupsi

Abstract

The pupose of this research is to examine the problems in gold mining activities, both among the comunity and the gold mining workers. Violations of the law committed by gold miners do not necessarily serve as the benchmark for measuring the legal consciousness of the gold mining community in the Teluk Pandak village, Tebo Tengah district, Tebo Regency, Jambi province. This study was qualitative using descriptive methods. 29 informants were selected using snowball sampling. Data were collected by interview, observation and documentation. During the observation, pictures of gold mining activity, articles about gold mines, and land payment were collected. The data were then verified by triangulation of sources and times, and analyzed based on Miles and Huberman model in the sequences of: data reduction, data model (data display) and drawing conclusion. The result of this study shows the challenge in the community's legal consciousness due to the lack of information and guidance from the administration about the regulation and the implementation of the mining activity. Keywords: legal consciousness, gold mining, Regulation on Minerals and Coal Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat permasalahan yang terjadi pada aktivitas pertambangan emas, baik dalam masyarakat maupun pada pekerja pertambangan emas itu sendiri. Pelanggaran hukum yang dilakukan oleh penambang emas tidak serta merta menjadi tolak ukur baik atau tidaknya kesadaran hukum masyarakat pertambangan emas di Desa Teluk Pandak Kecamatan Tebo Tengah Kabupaten Tebo, Provinsi Jambi. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pemilihan informan dilakukan dengan snowball sampling, dan menghasilkan 29 informan. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Selama observasi peneliti mengumpulkan beberapa data berupa foto aktivitas penambang emas, pencemaran sungai, artikel tentang penertiban penambang emas, serta data pembayaran lahan. Agar data yang diperoleh bisa dipercaya (absah), maka dalam penelitian ini dilakukan triangulasi yaitu triangulasi sumber dan waktu. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan mengacu pada model analisis Miles dan Huberman dengan langkah-langkah yaitu reduksi data, model data (data display) dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan terkendalanya kesadaran masyarakat disebabkan kurangnya informasi dan pembinaan dari pemerintah tentang Undang-Undang serta implementasinya dalam penambangan. Abstract

This study aims to describe the nationalism of the Chinese ethnic community near the Indonesia-Singapore border, Batam island, analyzing the extent to which the community interpret their sense of nationalism, and to find out the state's efforts to preserve the Chinese-Batam community's sense of nationalism. This research used desciptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation and interviews located in Nongsa area. This study found that the nationalism of the border community was not so visible due to several factors: the high mobility, information and communication exchange. The Chinese-Batam community is more interested in using Mandarin, Hokkien language, compared to Indonesian in interacting. They are also more interested in watching Singaporean and Malaysian television channels that use Mandarin language. Therefore, they are not interested in national issues and developments. The Riau Islands provincial administration has mandated, among others, to raise the Indonesian flag during the Indonesian Independence Day celebration to maintain their nationalism. They also held various traditional and cultural parades to improve their love for Indonesian customs and culture, as well as dissemination on the importance of preferring domestic products to Chinese-Batam community associations. Keywords: nationalism, Chinese-Batam community, Indonesia-Singapore Border Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nasionalisme masyarakat Tionghoa Batam di dekat perbatasan Indonesia-Singapura, menganalisis sejauh mana mereka memaknai rasa nasionalismenya, serta mengetahui upaya pemeliharaan rasa nasionalisme yang dilakukan negara terhadap masyarakat Tionghoa-Batam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi dan wawancara. Lokasi penelitian adalah di wilayah Nongsa Batam. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa nasionalisme masyarakat di perbatasan tidak begitu terlihat disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor-faktor, di antaranya mobi-litas yang tinggi serta pertukaran informasi dan kamunikasi. Masyarakat Tionghoa-Batam lebih tertarik menggunakan Bahasa Mandarin, Hokkian dibandingkan bahasa Indonesia dalam berinteraksi. Mereka juga lebih tertarik melihat saluran televisi Singapura dan Malay-sia yang menggunakan Bahasa Mandarin. Dengan demikian mereka tidak tertarik dengan isu dan perkembangan nasional. Upaya yang dilakukan pemerintah daerah Kepulau-an Riau untuk memelihara rasa nasionalisme masyarakat Tionghoa-Batam di antaranya yaitu mewajibkan memasang bendera Indonesia saat perayaan HUT RI. Selain itu juga se-ring dilaksanakan berbagai pawai adat dan budaya untuk membangun rasa cinta terhadap adat dan budaya Indonesia, serta kegiatan sosialisasi pentingnya mencintai produk dalam negeri dan melakukan pembinaan terhadap perkumpulan warga masyarakat Tionghoa-Batam. Abstract

The interest of students from various countries to study overseas have been increasing lately, resulting in a global trend. Their reasons could be different from one another. This study analysed student migration using different models and theories. Through qualitative research, using literary and ethnographic analysis along with transnational perspectives, this project analyzed the reasons behind student’s migration. The finding indicates that different theories and approaches show different reasons why the students migrate. Push-pull factor theory shows that factors from the home country and the host country can count as reasons for why students study abroad. World system theory shows how economically, politically, and socially powerful countries play an important role in attracting international students. The demand and supply models are related to the middle class who are eager to gain cultural and social capital through studying abroad. Finally, the global space approach has three poles to look at international student flows; one of which is the Pacific pole where English-speaking countries become popular destinations particularly among international students from Asian countries. This article suggests that if host countries want to market their education comprehensively, the host countries should give more space and easy access for the home countries of the outflows of student migration.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find a solution to the problem in applying the NHT (Numbered Heads Together) cooperative learning model to improve student learning outcomes in Class XII Social Studies Major of SMA Mathla’ul Anwar High School Batujaya Karawang. This study used a classroom action research method. The study was conducted in three cycles and each cycle consists of 4 steps, namely planning, acting/implementing, observing, and reflecting. The results of the study show students' improvement in understanding the legal protection and law enforcement materials after the implementation of NHT cooperative learning model. By using the NHT model, the students find it easier to understand the concepts that used to be considered difficult. Before implementing the model, the understanding level of the students at SMA Mathla’ul Anwar Batujaya Karawang was relatively low because some students’ scores were below the minimum completeness criteria. After the actions in the three cycles were completed, the student learning outcomes increase. The students’ average score before the treatment was 60.16. It increased to 68.25 in cycle 1, 72.50 in cycle 2, and 80.25 in cycle 3. This increase indicates that the NHT model can help the students improve their understanding. In the learning process using this model, the students feel that they are systematically guided in understanding the materials. Moreover, it helps the students in improving their ability to explain the learning materials and to provide examples on the legal protection and law enforcement materials in the learning process using the NHT cooperative learning model.

Abstract

This article describes the preparation and learning process of Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) in a disadvantaged region. The research was conducted at the junior high school SMPN 1 Lahewa, North Nias Islands, which is one of the disadvantaged regions according to Presidential Decree No. 131 2015 concerning the Determination of Disadvantaged Areas 2015-2019. This study used qualitative methods through observation, interviews, focus group discussions (FGD) and documentation studies. In this study the data were analyzed using the method proposed by Miles and Hubermen which contained three flows; data reduction analysis techniques, data presentation (display), and data verification/conclusions. The result of the study shows that there was no preparation for PPKn courses at SMPN 1 Lahewa, including the Learning Implementation Plan (RPP) during the teaching and learning process. The lack of facilities and evaluation of the learning administration are the main factors that teachers neglect the preparation of learning tools. Penelitian dilakukan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri (SMPN) 1 Lahewa Kepulauan Nias Utara, yang merupakan salah satu daerah tertinggal sesuai dengan Peraturan Presiden No. 131 Tahun 2015 Tentang Penetapan Daerah Tertinggal 2015-2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yaitu melalui observasi, wawancara, FGD (focus group discussion) dan studi dokumentasi. Dalam penelitian ini data dianalisis dengan metode yang dikemukakan oleh Miles dan Hubermen yang memuat tiga alur yaitu kegiatan teknik analisis reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi data/penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak adanya persiapan dalam pembelajaran di SMPN 1 Lahewa termasuk persiapan Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP) ketika proses belajar mengajar. Fasilitas yang minim serta kurangnya evaluasi administrasi pembelajaran menjadi faktor utama guru lalai dalam mempersiapkan perangkat pembelajaran. Abstract

In accordance with the 2013 curriculum, Elementary Schools use thematic learning approach, which means that all subjects are integrated into certain themes, including Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn). In order to achieve learning objectives, various forms of learning models are used. This article aims to describe the improvement of learning outcomes using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in integrated thematic learning particularly on diversity and energy saving materials for fourth grade students of SDN 06 Batu Taba, Agam regency, West Sumatra province. The research subjects were teachers and 27 students. The type of research was classroom action. The results showed an increase in the Learning Implementation Plan (RPP). In the first cycle, the average predicate was good, then increased to be very good in the second cycle. The implementation of teacher activities in cycle I obtained an average of sufficient predicate, and increased in cycle II to be very good. The implementation of the activities of the students in the first cycle obtained sufficient average predicate and increased in the second cycle to be very good. Student learning outcomes in the first cycle obtained sufficient average predicate and increased in the second cycle to be very good. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PBL model can improve student learning outcomes in integrated thematic learning in elementary schools. Keywords: problem based learning model, learning outcomes, integrated thematic, classroom action research, learning implementation plan ABSTRAK Sesuai dengan kurikulum 2013, Sekolah Dasar menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran tematik, yaitu semua mata pelajaran terintegrasi ke dalam tema-tema tertentu, termasuk Pendidikan Pancasila dan Kewarganegaraan (PPKn). Untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran, sekolah menggunakan berbagai bentuk model pembelajaran. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan hasil belajar dengan menggunakan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada pembelajaran tematik terpadu terutama materi keberagaman dan hemat energi bagi siswa kelas IV SDN 06 Batu Taba, Kabupaten Agam, Sumatera Barat. Subjek penelitian adalah guru dan 27 orang peserta didik. Jenis penelitian adalah tindakan kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pada Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran (RPP). Pada siklus I, diperoleh rata-rata predikat baik, kemudian meningkat pada siklus II menjadi sangat baik. Pelaksanaan aktivitas guru di siklus I memperoleh rata-rata dengan predikat cukup, dan meningkat pada siklus II menjadi sangat baik. Pelaksanaan aktivitas siswa pada siklus I memperoleh rata-rata dengan predikat cukup dan meningkat pada siklus II menjadi sangat baik. Hasil belajar siswa pada siklus I memperoleh rata-rata predikat cukup dan meningkat pada siklus II menjadi sangat baik. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model PBL dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada pembelajaran tematik terpadu di Sekolah Dasar. Abstract

This study aims to describe the obstacles faced by Democracy Volunteers, a social movement partnering the General Election Commission (KPU) in improving voters’ education in the 2019 simultaneous regional election in the cities of Pekanbaru and Dumai, Riau province. Democracy Volunteer has the principle “from voters to voters”, because as facilitators, they come from the community that they will educate. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive method. Informants were determined through non-probability sampling technique using purposive sampling technique. The number of research informants amounted to nine people consisting of the KPU commissioners and staff in charge of the Democracy Volunteer program, as well as Democracy Volunteers members for women voters. The data validity was tested using triangulation of data sources. The findings of the study show that in carrying out its duties as the facilitators of voter education, the Democracy Volunteers experience several obstacles, including (1) limited working time for volunteers; the allocated two-month time meant that not all regions could be visited to spread information on election and democracy; (2) limited time for the implementation of voter education activities in the community; (3) limited knowledge of Democracy Volunteers regarding electoral technicality and the lack of confidence in delivering material to the community so that only certain internal volunteers are relied on while others are only tasked with facilitating activities such as distributing snacks, installing banners and preparing attendance; (4) the apathy of the target community towards electoral information hence it is quite difficult to provide understanding and even motivation to participate in the election. Democracy Volunteers are partners of the KPU in inviting the public to become smart and responsible voters in order to accomplish quality elections. Keywords: Democracy Volunteer, women voters, voter education ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kendala yang dihadapi Relawan Demokrasi, mitra Komisi Pemilihan Umum dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan pemilih dalam pemilu, pada pemilu serentak 2019 di Kota Pekanbaru dan Kota Dumai, terutama basis pemilih perempuan. Relawan Demokrasi mempunyai konsep “dari pemilih kepada pemilih”, sebab sebagai fasilitator, mereka berasal dari komunitas yang akan diedukasinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Penentuan informan penelitian melalui teknik non-probability sampling dengan teknik purposive sampling. Informan penelitian berjumlah sembilan orang yang terdiri dari komisioner, staf KPU yang mengurusi program Relawan Demokrasi, dan Relawan Demokrasi basis perempuan. Teknik pengujian keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi sumber data. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam melaksanakan tugasnya sebagai fasilitator pendidikan pemilih, Relawan Demokrasi mengalami beberapa kendala di antaranya (1) keterbatasan waktu masa kerja Relawan Demokrasi; waktu yang diberikan selama kurang lebih dua bulan menyebabkan tidak semua daerah bisa dikunjungi dalam memberikan informasi kepemiluan dan demokrasi; (2) keterbatasan waktu pelaksanaan kegiatan pendidikan pemilih dalam komunitas; (3) keterbatasan pengetahuan Relawan Demokrasi mengenai teknis kepemiluan serta minimnya kepercayaan diri dalam menyampaikan materi kepada komunitas sehingga narasumber dari internal relawan hanya orang tertentu yang diandalkan sementara yang lainnya hanya bertugas memfasilitasi kegiatan seperti pembagian camilan, pemasangan spanduk/banner dan mempersiapkan presensi; (4) apatisme komunitas sasaran terhadap informasi kepemiluan sehingga cukup menyulitkan dalam memberikan pemahaman bahkan motivasi untuk ikut berpartisipasi dalam pemilu. Relawan Demokrasi sebagai partner KPU mengajak masyarakat untuk menjadi pemilih cerdas dan bertanggung jawab guna mewujudkan pemilu yang berkualitas.
