Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni is an international journal dedicated for the publication of scientific articles in language education, literature, and arts education. It was firstly published on March 2000 with ISSN 1411-3732 in 2007 by Faculty of Language Literature and Arts Universitas Negeri Padang. This journal had ever been changed into Jurnal Bahasa dan Seni during 2004-2013. In 2014 this journal is renamed as Komposisi: Jurnal Pendidikan Bahasa, Sastra, dan Seni applies open journal system (OJS) and peer-reviewed online journal in 2017 with Online ISSN 2548-9097.

Abstract

This article aims to explain about the aesthetic value in performance structure of traditional piriang dance from Jorong Limau Sundai Pasir Talang, Kabupaten Solok Selatan. This dance is played especially by female dancers. This research is quantitative research which applies descriptive method. The object of this research is the performance structure of traditional piriang dance from Jorong Limau Sundai Pasir Talang Kabupaten Solok Selatan. The key instrument of this research is the researcher herself. The data are colected by using direct observation, interview, literature study and documentation. Furthermore, the data are analyzed by using ethnography method. Based on result of this research, piriang dance has traditional aesthetics from local culture values of Jorong Limau society. The aesthetic value of piriang dance can be found in motion structure, costume, floor design, music design, dance technique, and expression of the female dancers who are 45 until 48 years old. The aesthetic value of piriang dance from Jorong Limau is related to culture value which becomes the basic of life to Jorong Limau Sundai society. Abstract

Ethic, aesthetic, and logic should take place in any language.  If one of them does not exist in a sentence, it can lose its meaning. Every language in the world must contain the three of them in accordance with the development of the speakers. Using the existing ethical sense in a language of the user group, a speech may be followed by the norms of behavior, customs, and manners, and it should be prevalent in the language of the society. Aesthetics is inherent in the development of a language; it is supported by reason, thought, feeling, mind, and the beauty contained in the language which is set forth in the elections of words expressions. Furthermore, there must be logic in speaking because it is a part of the language. If the language does not contain the logic, the language of the act may be created and may not be used as a means of communication. Indeed, language is an event in which people use their thoughts, feelings, and logic, and it is more than just a means for communication. Keywords: ethic, aesthetic, logic, communication, language

Abstract

Konsep belajar mandiri telah mendapat perhatian besar dalam penelitian dan praktik pendidikan selama tiga dekade terakhir. Konsep ini dianggap sebagai suatu pilihan dalam dunia pendidikan modern ini (Scharle & Szabo, 2000) yang menuntut partisipasi yang lebih aktif peserta didik  dan kurangnya ketergantungan kepada guru. Di bidang pembelajaran bahasa, banyak peneliti yang telah mengkaji konsep ini dalam rangka mendapatkan pemahaman yang lebih tentang teori dan praktek pembelajaran otonom. Dua pendekatan yang umum digunakan oleh para peneliti dalam pembelajaran otonom adalah pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Kedua pendekatan dibahas dalam makalah ini untuk mendapatkan perbandingan tentan keuntungan dan kelemahan masing-masing pendekatan yang akan digunakan untuk penelitian pembelajaran otonom. Pendekatan campuran atau kombinasi pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif juga dibahas dalam makalah ini untuk mendapatkan lebih banyak ide dan pemahaman tentang cara alternatif melakukan penelitian dalam ranah ini. Abstract

This study aims at finding out the effectiveness of ICT based Student Centered Learning Approach based on ICT toward prose appreciation ability of students at Indonesian Department UNP. The population was 141 students classified into four classes at sixth semester at 2011/2012 academic year. By clustering random sampling, class C with 36 students was assigned as the experimental group, and class D with 36 students was assigned as the experimental group. The design of this study was controlled-group pretest to posttest to find out students’ prose appreciation ability. At the beginning of this study, both groups were normally distributed; indicated by the same variety and there is no significant difference in their abilities at prose appreciation. The finding of this study revealed that there was a difference of their abilities at prose appreciation. The calculation, tobs (7,5072) >ttable (2,0301) showed that students at experimental group, who used ICT based Student Centered Learning Approach, achieved the passing grades. While the control group with the calculation of tobs (-0,3241) <ttable (2,0301), the students could not achieve the passing grades. This means that ICT based Student Centered Learning Method effectively improves students’ ability at prose appreciation. Abstract

The implementation of SOP (Standard Operational Procedures) in university library is needed to improve the service quality. The arrangement of SOP in University library includes four stages. The first is analysis of SOP needs. The beginning step in arranging of SOP is by analyzing SOP that will be created. Furthermore, the SOP that created depends on the ongoing work condition and procedures. The second is the development of SOP. Because of the change of internal and external organization of university library, SOP also has to change. The third is implementation of SOP. In implementing SOP, it is hoped that there is a balance between the availability of SOP, that organizes the operational activity of university library, and the human resources, that have professional behavior in arranging the library. The fourth is observation and evaluation. In order to implement SOP properly, it should be assessed by reviewers. These four steps are done in sequence to produce SOP that is appropriate to field needs for supporting the completeness of integrated quality management in university library. Therefore, the standard service quality of library can be measured by having SOP. Thus, the service quality which is given to visitors can be determined based on SOP. Abstract

The background of this research is the low ability of the students in writing the role play text, in which they can not pass the minimum mastery criterion (KKM). The type of the research is Classroom Action Research which is employed in two (2) cycles. The act of the teaching and learning process is done by using CTL approach. Each cycle is done by integrating some CTL components and observed by the observers. The steps of the research are planning, doing, observation and reflection. The data are qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data are collected from the observation and filed note while the quantitative data are collected from the result of students performance test. The research resuts shows that there is an increasing of student’s activity during teaching and learning processes after finishing the first and the second cycles. Furthermore, there is an increasing of students achievement result in writing the role play text from 68,38 in pre-cycle, which indicates that  40% of the students passed the KKM. Furthermore, the students achievement increases into 73,75 on the first cycle in which 64 % of students passed the KKM. Moreover, the second cycle shows that the average students’ grade is 88,25. This  grade means that 100% of the students pass the minimum mastery criteria (KKM). Keywords: writing, role play text, contextual teaching approach

Abstract

This article aims to explain about the alternative of reconstructing characterized education through artwork for students at State University of Padang (UNP). The artwork is an expression in which human being is able to express moral values through its symbols; as a result, it becomes expressive media for the characterized education. This research is the qualitative one which applies the descriptive method. The data is collected through direct observation, interview and library research. Afterward, the data were analyzed by using phenomenology approach. Apparently, the problem of the students at UNP is the lack of characters. As the cultural and social beings who live in the surroundings of tradition and cultural philosophies like Minangkabau, whose famous sayings adat basandi sarak, sarak basandi kitabullah (culture is based on religion, and the religion is based on Islam), these students cannot contain themselves being in the society. On the other side, artwork as an expressive media of human’s behavior and feelings is viewed as means of delivery the concepts of characterized education for these students; in return, they can behave as what is expected by culture and tradition of Minangkabau. Abstract

The learning of writing, particularly writing narratives, at primary schools aims to enable the students to express their ideas and thoughts into narratives. Previous studies inform that the skill of Grade IV students of Primary School 03 Alai Timur, Padang, in writing narrative is less satisfied. This is attributed to the facts that student’s lack of interest in writing and the teacher has no effective strategy in teaching. This research aims to discover the accurate and effective strategy in solving the problem of learning to write narratives at primary schools. The research is conducted to improve primary school students’ skill in writing narratives. This research employs a strategy considered being able to solve the problem of primary school students skill in writing narratives, that is the process approach. The approach is one of the alternatives for problem solution. The data collection techniques employed observation, interviews, and students writing. Then, the data are analyzed through qualitative data analysis model. To keep the data validity, Triangualation technique is used. The research findings indicate that strategy of process approach may improve the skill of Grade IV students of Primary School 03 Alai Timur Padang in writing narratives. Improvement is seen in each phase of learning which includes pre writing, writing and post writing. Assessment approach contributes to improvement of primary school student’s skill in writing narratives. Keywords: students’ ability; learning to write; process approach
