Abstract

The problem with the western line of thinking is that it makes a hasty assumption that religion naturally impedes social change. This assumption betrays the lack of a sense of cultural relativism and fails to comprehend the complex relationship between religion and society in West Asia and North Africa. In fact, Arab feminists recognized this truth a long time ago. As we illustrated above, Arab feminism began as a secular movement that viewed religion as a tool of oppression. It gradually revised its philosophy and reconciled its ideas with Islamic tenets. Scholars like Deniz Kandiyoti, Fatima Mernissi, and many Arab scholars vitally contributed to bringing this about. The Quran and the Hadiths are replete with the message of gender equality, so also the history of Islam which presents a very positive picture of gender relations. Scholars like Nikkie Keddie and Elizabeth Fernea have studied several different Arabic-speaking tribes and communities distributed from the Maghreb to the Arab Gulf. Their effort has revealed that from the historical past women in the Arab world have played significant roles in politics, legal institutions, administration, and even warfare. Therefore, we would like to express our reservations on apprehensions and anxieties which are so vociferously articulated by western academia and media during the developments following the Arab Spring in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, and other Arab states.

Abstract

This paper briefly discusses Ibn Khaldun’s philosophical and rational construction of Islam and its metaphysical discursus as set forth in his classical works such as Kitab al-‘Ibar, Al-Ta‘rif, Tahrir al-Ahkam, and al-Muqaddimah. This work expressed his highly rational outlook that developed a critical and rational understanding of religious and moral premises. It also summarized its dynamic ground that contributes to expound instructive discussion of related ideas and themes. The study is based on library research using content analysis and analyzed through analytical and descriptive approaches. The finding concludes that Ibn Khaldun has brought forth a rational interpretation of history based on the unique philosophical and socio-cultural analysis he introduced in his al-Muqaddimah. This characteristic approach of the rational ideal has significantly impacted Islam’s modern history and tradition. His rational and argumentative principle has largely influenced the works of contemporary Muslim thinkers such as Malik Bennabi, Rashid Ghannoushi, and Muhammad Asad.

Uncertainty about when COVID-19 will end, in 2020, in Indonesia, people have experienced social distancing and have experienced the new normal. There has been a lot of non-compliance. For example in mosques, quite a lot of people don't follow health protocols, which we know 3M (wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance) as a symbol of preventing COVID-19. The aims of this study are 1) to describe the general description of non-compliance with health protocols; 2) Examine reasons people do not comply with 3M protocols. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive design. Data was collected employing in-depth interviews. The results showed that the problem was marked by a conflict between worldview and reality in responding to problems starting from the rules for closing mosques in the midst of a pandemic and the emergence of new healthy lifestyle provisions in mosques. In the above conditions, there is a possibility of inability and reluctance to comply with Government recommendations.

Abstract

This study intends to focus on reviewing some previously recorded materials to discuss the approach of az-Zarkashi (d. 794/1392, see page 3 footnote for his short history) to the roles of an absolute word (mutlaq) and delimited word (muqayyad) in understanding the divine revelations. The method of az-Zarkashi is been chosen for thğis research due to his huge influence in the fields of principles jurisprudence (Usul al-fıqh), Quranic science, and its exegesis. The efforts employed by az-Zarkashi in the book named Bahru’l-Muhit fi Usul al-Fiqh on the topic of this paper which is mutlaq and muqayyad in the section of Usul al-fiqh, and his work on Quranic sciences (see also page 3) increases the interest in studying the research topic of our current paper. Without a doubt, many of the ambiguities about the Quranic exegesis and Hadith and the likes will be in the clarified stage by applying the available theory in the az-Zarkashi's work regarding the terms mutlaq and muqayyad. However, this study aims to shed more light on the way of deriving the proper understanding and better interpretative method to the two Islamic devıne revelations; which are basically known as the Qur'an and the prophetic tradition (Hadith).

Abstract

The condition of a patriarchal culture that is rooted in society causes many cases of gender inequality in which women are the main victims. This is because the perception of gender of men and women has different characteristics, so it can be said that men are more dominant than women. In addition, Islamic religious perspective on this phenomenon, where there are often misconceptions about the understanding of Islamic religious knowledge, is reason for the emergence of a patriarchal culture that continues to take root in society. This study has the purpose to find out descriptively and meaningfully of patriarchal culture in concept of gender equality. In this study uses qualitative research methods through a literature study of relevant books, literature, and journals. As a result that patriarchal culture manifests gender inequality. Not only in a family environment but also in an educational environment, work environment, etc. Domestic violence experienced by women is a form of gender inequality. While other forms are marginalization, subordination, stereotypes, and dual roles. In addition, Islamic teachings originating from explanations in the Qur'an have emphasized that men and women have equal rights in terms of worship (spiritual) and social activities. However, a lack of public understanding has made patriarchal culture take root to this day.

Abstract

The debate over the implementation of Tabarruk is something that still raises a lot of debate among the Muslims of the world. The majority of Muslims are very enthusiastic about carrying out this practice, while others still consider tabarruk an act of heresy and even shirk. In this literature study, the author will try to re-present the concept and understanding of tabarruk from the perspective of Sunni and Shia scholars as active adherents of tabarruk practice which will be represented through the thoughts of the two figures in this group, namely Zainal Abidin al-Ba'lawi and Ja 'far Subhani. From this concept, the author will relate the implementation to the impact of tabarruk practices in building the character of Muslims. The research used in this study is a comparative approach with a qualitative description in which the thoughts of these two figures will be coordinated and compared so as to produce a neutral and impartial. The results of this study state, that the Ahlussunnah and the Shiah have mutually agreed, that the practice of tabarruk is a legal practice and can be carried out by all Muslims in the agreed measure and rules. Therefore, these results are used as a response to criticism from parties who oppose the practice of tabarruk with accusations of polytheism and are considered to be detrimental both financially and morally for Muslims. In addition, the practice of tabarruk carried out in accordance with the Shari'ah has a positive impact on the character building of Muslims. Among the kinds of tabarruk in religious practice are: reading the Qur'an, visiting graves, seeking knowledge, and tabarruk with Sayyidina Husein's turban.

Abstract

The occurrence of the Covid-19 pandemic is often interpreted theologically as a reply or punishment from God. A variety of perspectives are needed in interpreting disasters. Now, disasters are not only interpreted theologically and also clinically, a multidisciplinary approach is needed to interpret disasters comprehensively and completely. In terms of Islamic education, disaster is interpreted as an educational problem that must be overcome quickly so as not to cause obstacles and chaos in the process of learning Islam. The emergency curriculum is a response to the steps taken by the government to overcome the problems caused by the pandemic. This research aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of disaster theology from the perspective of Islamic education. In this article, the disaster (Covid-19) is reviewed from the perspective of Islamic education to provide a new perspective on the meaning of disaster. This research uses a type of qualitative-descriptive research with library research data collection methods. Data analysis in this study uses content analysis, that is, data relevant to the research topic is studied in depth to produce conclusions that can solve the problem being studied. The results showed that disaster theology in Islamic education, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, needs to be seen from a metaphysical religious perspective. From the perspective of Islamic education, the disaster of the Covid-19 pandemic is interpreted as the importance of a change in habits in cultivating taharah (self-purification), driving the Islamic financial system to revive the people's economy (zakat, waqf, and crowdfunding), the policy of closing mosques, and emergency schools education systems, such as PJJ (distance learning), blended learning, hybrid learning, and technological innovation with LMS (learning management system). These efforts are carried out as an effort to keep Islamic education running even in disaster situations.
