Abstract

This research focuses on semiotic analysis of the film Sound of Freedom. This semiotic analysis aims to determine the interpretation and meaning related to the life values of the film. In this research the author uses elements from Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis method, with the limit of semiotic studies to the semantic level. This research is based on the understanding that film is not only a work of art that aims to entertain but can also be a communication medium that indirectly conveys human values. This film is an adaptation of a true story that tells the story of a United States government agent, Timothy Ballard (Jim Caviezel), who uncovers a child trafficking network in Colombia. The research method used by researchers is a qualitative research method using data originating from the results of document analysis and observations of texts. Technical data analysis was carried out using Charles Sander Peirce's semiotic theory. Researchers took Peirce's formula regarding objects which are classified into three, in the form of icons, indexes and symbols which are applied to each scene of the film Sound of Freedom. The results of this research show the human values contained in the film Sound of Freedom semantically.

Abstract

This research examined the use of denotative diction in the Indonesian language textbook for second grade of elementary school under Kurikulum Merdeka. The primary objective of this study was to assess how the choice of denotative words influenced the understanding and acceptance of the materials by young students. Through the method of content analysis, this research evaluated various stories in the textbook, focusing on word choice and its impact on the clarity of teaching. Denotative diction was chosen as the object of analysis due to its critical role in helping students understand the text literally, which forms the foundation for further learning at an early age. The improvement of consistency in the use of denotative diction across all teaching materials is crucial to support the effectiveness of learning at the basic level. It is expected that these findings can serve as a reference for the development of curriculum and the compilation of better Indonesian language textbooks in the future, in line with the principles of Kurikulum Merdeka that supports inclusive and comprehensive education. The conclusion of the research indicates that the use of words with clear and unambiguous denotative meanings tends to facilitate students in understanding the concepts being taught.

Abstract

As an effort to align learning at fashion design training centers with industry needs and the huge potential of Instagram reels as an innovative learning medium in the digital era, this research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Instagram Reels as a learning medium for making fashion patterns using zero-waste pattern-cutting techniques at fashion design training centers. Using the Dick and Carey model of research and development (R&D) approach, this research lasted for four months involving three expert validators (material, media, design), three peers, six fashion design training centers, and 49 students at different learning levels. The research results show that teaching materials based on Instagram Reels meet the validity criteria and have a positive response of 88.35% from expert validators and peers. The percentage of product suitability assessments from user/student respondents was 75.9%, indicating that this teaching material is suitable for widespread application in learning. This research contributes to providing an innovative learning approach that increases students' interest, understanding, practical skills, and creativity in mastering the concept of zero-waste pattern-cutting design and providing solutions to challenges in learning fashion design and reducing waste in the fashion industry.

Abstract

It is evident that women have historically faced numerous obstacles in accessing political participation. The pervasiveness of patriarchal norms in social structures has been a primary impediment to women's engagement in public spheres. This is reflected in the dearth of women in legislative bodies, which represents a mere fraction of the population, and the continued marginalization of women who do not exercise their rights in the political realm. The United States (US) provides an illustrative example, where women's political engagement began to take form in the 1920s. At this time, women demanded the right to vote, which was achieved with the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which granted women the right to vote without regard for their gender. However, despite the amendment's ratification, this did not result in a corresponding increase in women's political participation. This is because, at that time, many women lacked awareness of the importance of political participation and only a few realized the need for female representation in politics in order to bring about justice for women. In the 113th congressional elections (House of Representatives and Senate) for the 2013-2015 period in the United States, women elected to Congress only reached 19.10%. In contrast, women's representation in Rwanda reached 48.8% in 2007. These findings demonstrate that, despite the emergence of feminism, the U.S. does not enjoy a clear advantage in women's representation in the legislative branch. The district electoral system employed by the United States is the most significant factor influencing the representation of women in politics. Unlike other countries, the US does not impose a quota system, also known as affirmative action. The opportunity for women to participate in politics is greater when a proportional electoral system is used. In terms of the values of democracy and human rights, the struggle for political rights initiated the women's movement, which led to the emergence of the concept of feminism. This research employs the theory of liberal feminism and the concept of democracy. The liberal feminist theory places emphasis on freedom and equality of rationality. It posits that women should have the same opportunities and rights as men without discrimination in politics. The research presented here employs the literature method as a data collection technique.

Abstract

In the midst of increasingly tight business competition, with numerous imitations of business ideas and solutions, competitive advantage alone is not sufficient to maintain customer loyalty. Considering the importance of maintaining customer loyalty, this study aims to analyze the relationship between positive valence WOM (PVWOM) and customer loyalty, with mediating factors such as trust, value co-creation, and brand image. This research is expected to contribute to theoretical understanding of the variables under study and provide managerial implications to organizations in various industry sectors. It is also hoped to strengthen our understanding of PVWOM in social media, assist marketers in gaining insights into the factors influencing the relationship between PVWOM and customers on social media, and aid them in designing digital marketing strategies. This research involves 4 schools in Kabupaten Bekasi with a total of 210 respondents over three months. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Model (SEM) AMOS. The results show a positive relationship between PVWOM and customer loyalty, with trust, value co-creation, and brand image partially mediating this relationship. Additionally, the research findings support a serial mediation model where PVWOM influences loyalty through trust and value co-creation sequentially. Managerial implications applicable to the education sector include the notion that a good level of positive valence WOM will enhance proactive attitudes in teaching and learning activities, as well as foster collaborative knowledge creation. Current conditions urge educational institutions to innovate information and communication technology in every teaching and learning activity. Positive valence WOM can be enhanced through social networks interacting to obtain innovative ideas and insights from their customers. If educational institution customers can actively participate in decision-making, then positive valence WOM can be leveraged to impact management within educational institutions.

Abstract

The establishment of the Public Service Mall in XYZ Regency is designed to facilitate business transactions and is anticipated to enhance the Ease of Doing Business Index (EoDB) in XYZ Regency. The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has delegated authority to the XYZ Regency Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office or it called DPMPTSP to organize licensing in the XYZ region through the Public Service Mall. The government utilizes an integrated online system, namely Online Single Submission (OSS), in its implementation, as mandated by Government Regulation Number 24 of 2018 concerning Electronically Integrated Business Licensing Services. This is done by the government to accelerate and facilitate business actors in obtaining business licenses. XYZ Regency has implemented the OSS system since July 2018. In this study, the authors are interested in discussing how communication management and communication processes related to services carried out by the XYZ Regency Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP) are conducted. The methodology employed in this study is descriptive qualitative.. In accordance with the POAC theory, the implementation of the OSS system at the XYZ Regency One-Stop Integrated Investment and Service Office has not achieved the desired outcomes. There remain numerous deficiencies in the system, starting with the readiness of human resources (HR) to provide optimal services and the strategy of the XYZ Regency local government to disseminate information on the OSS system to the wider community. In accordance with the explanation provided by G. R. Terry, the foundation of management activities is organization. This implies that organization is an activity aimed at achieving goals in an effective and efficient manner. Therefore, the objective of the OSS system should be genuinely perceived by the community, rather than becoming an impediment to business activities.
